Remedy for Alopecia

Dr. Joe,
Since more than 2 years I am suffering with Alopecia. It started with a symptom of Patchy hail loss along with small pimples in the head. These pimples were filled with puss. Initially, I tried Mintop (2%), it did not work out at all. Then I consulted Dermatologist. Out of my frustration, I took injection of corticosteroids. Small regrowth of hairs happened, but it did not stop forming new patches. I could understand that there is no cure in Allopathy.

Afterwards, I tried many homeopathic medicines- like Phosphorus, Lycopodium, Cal. Carb., Sulphur etc in consultation with one homeopath. However, it did not work out. When I saw some posts in the ABC Homeopathy, I noticed Fluoric Acid was prescribed.

When I consulted my Homeopath again and told him about Flouric Acid, he first suggested me to take Sulphur empty stomach and then after few days, he started Acid Flour 200 in liquid dose. I could notice the miracle. First of all, the pimples came out suddenly and then they were completely stopped. Also, the patches started recovering and stopped forming new patches. I continued the Acid Flour for 2-3 months and then stopped. I felt that the problem is over.

It was all going good for almost 10 months. Recently I shifted to UK. The weather is cold here. I don't understand what has caused this time, but the patches have started forming again. However, there are no pimples this time. Already 2 previous patches were not recovered and the new patches have started forming now. Once again I started using Acid Flour (in dry pills this time) for a month, but it’s not working out.

I am getting frustrated now. Can you please suggest a proper cure? I will highly appreciate your response.

I am 35 year old Male.
I don’t have any other problem.
I don’t notice any hereditary issue of Alopecia.

Regards,
Vimal

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I have treated a few cases of Alopecia with Arnica 30c in the Wet dose taken twice daily orally and Arnica Q in a solution applied directly on the head in water as often as possible.

The Wet dose of Arnica 30 is made as follows:

Order the remedy in the Liquid pack in Alcohol, also referred to as Liquid Dilution in a bottle preferably with a dropper arrangement.
Get a 500ml bottle of Spring Water from the nearest supermarket.
Pour out about 3cm of water from the bottle to leave some airspace.
Insert 3 drops of the remedy into the bottle and shake the bottle hard at least 6 times before you sip a capfull of the bottle or a large teaspoonful which is the dose.
Shaking the bottle hard is homeopathic succussion and this enhances the effect of the remedy on the user.

The Arnica Q solution is made by inserting 20 drops into a bottle of about 300ml water. When the water is shaken about you will notice that it bubbles freely. You will pour out about a teaspoonful on your cupped hand and massage it on your hair which you will notice will be rendered slightly sticky. You will not use any shampoo other than Johnson's Baby Shampoo on your hair which you will use daily in your shower.

You will use this massage with the medicated water twice daily. Please note that this is not for oral use.

Report progress in 2 months when hopefully you should find that the bald spots should have filled up with the new growth.

Thanks Dr. Joe,
Certainly I will follow your advice and report after 2 months.

Hi Dr. Joe,
I have been following to your advice since one and half months. I could see the improvement in the terms of the re-growth of hair at the patches. However, it has not stopped forming the new patches. Since then, three new patches have formed. This is really frustrating and I can't understand- what is the appropriate remedy for it?
I would highly appreciate your response.

Alopecia is an ailment which is not fully understood and as you are probably aware, there is no cure for it in medicine with drugs.

I discovered that the therapy I prescribe for Hair Loss was equally effective in the case of Alopecia and many patients who have lost patches of their hair have responded.

You are advised to continue with the simple therapy I have prescribed and you should hopefully discover that your hair loss will abate and that your hair will grow back to its original density.

Make sure that you massage the remedy water into your scalp daily and you may increase the number of drops from 3 to 10 to see if it helps you better.

Hi Dr. Joe,
Thanks for your reply and attention to my queries.
As per your advice, I will keep following for few more weeks and month and see the results and report you back.

Since, I am frustrated with my condition, I am searching a lot on Alopecia. While searching for my treatment I have come across a post from Nupur on ABC Homeopathy. As per the advice Acid Flour should be used with intercurremt medicine like Baccilinum.

May I please request you to draw your attention and advise to the above priscription.

I do realize that you are very anxious to see your hair restored ASAP.

You would have observed that it took some years to lose your hair to the level you are at today and you will obviously have to give it some time to grow it back again.

You cannot add more unknown and untested remedies to what you are using today as the net result can be a dismal failure.

I have not used the remedies you indicated as I have proved that my therapy works and at age 83 I still have a good head of hair which is at least at half the level it was when I was half my age.

Thanks Dr. Joe
I will follow up your proven and tested therapy.

Just got disappointed as I noticed new patches during the treatment.

I am happy to take on this case if you wish a homoeopath to supervise.

What needs to be adressed here is the underlying cause of your alopecia. Treating just locally (the spots themselves) is prone to fail until the cause is cured (what we call the miasm in homoeopathy).

While it is hard to comment on the methods other homoeopaths use from what a former patient says, what I do notice from the remedies prescribed is this.

Firstly, he gave you 1 tubercular remedy and 3 psoric remdies, then he gave you a syphilitic remedy. This suggests he has no idea what your miasm is.

Secondly, the Fluoric acid prescription was clearly only a palliative one. Palliative prescriptions treat only one part of the problem, and when you persist with them they suppress the problem, causing significant problems in the future for that patient.

Thirdly, the use of dry pillules is for repeated doses is contraindicated in all situations. Dry pillules can cause serious aggravations, and they become less and less effective the longer you use them.

The case really needs to be taken from the top, probably by someone new with a different perspective. I have treated many cases of Alopecia in clinic with success, but only by addressing the whole case, not by concentrating on the hair loss.

Hi Dr. David,

I have a belief on Homeopathy and I strongly feel that if something can be cured from the root, it can only be cured through Homeopathy with selection of proper medicines. I have been completely ditched through allopathy in my case in the beginning and later on I understood that allopathy does not have any remedy for alopecia. Allopath can only give/ prescribe a corticosteroid injection.

Since Homeopathy is a black box to me, I have not been able to understand or appreciate much about the description you gave about the three types of medicines/ treatments happened in my case. It would be great if you can elaborate in bit detail.

Being a sufferer, I am keenly looking for an appropriate remedy. If you are interested in case study, please advise what all information you need to help me out.

Kind Regards,
Vimal

I was explaining three problems I saw with how you had been treated so far. However it is not too important for you to understand all that.

I can post my intake form. Be aware that treatment in any other way apart from face-to-face is much less likely to suceed.

INSTRUCTIONS FOR GIVING YOUR CASE

Go through each problem one at a time giving a full description of what happens, what pains and sensations you get, what makes it worse and what makes it better, the history of the complaint including when it started and what was happening around that time.

Write a separate section for each problem. Cover even the smallest problems you have.

If any of your symptoms occur together, or immediately before or after one another this is important to note as well.

Do not give single word or short sentence descriptions. The more information you give the better I will be able to help.

Do not read up on the remedies and discuss them. Do not attempt to use the Remedy Finder program on this site. Try to keep yourself apart from all the information about remedies on the internet. Such research on your part actually makes it harder to find the right remedy for you not easier.

Whenever you describe a sensation or pain, try to help me to imagine having that same pain. For example, what would have to happen to me to recreate that symptom?

Allow yourself to diverge if you wish. If discussing the problem brings up any emotional or mental issues, then discuss them.

Do not edit your report, except for spelling mistakes. It is important that even if you use the wrong word, you write that. You can correct yourself in the next sentence.

If you have not done this by the time you have covered your problems, discuss the problems you have generally had in your life. What have been the big traumas, the big issues for you? Where have you felt unable to change, where do you get stuck repeating the same behaviours?

Also discuss the issues you might have had in childhood. Talk about your family, your upbringing, your parents. What kind of child were you? What did you fear, what did you aspire to, what do you remember the most?

Lastly talk about the way in which you handle or cope with your problems. What are the patterns that reoccur in your life? How do you find yourself managing your problems, even if it is not successful? To what degree do your problems affect you? How do you think everything will work out in the end for you?

There will almost certainly be more questions from me after this to clarify and to explore further.
General health questions:

1. What foods and drinks do you crave? A craving is not just liking something but a very strong desire that you must fulfill very often.

2. What foods and drinks do you hate?

3. What kinds of weather and temperature are you sensitive to?

4. Is there anything else in the environment you seem more affected by than other people?

5. What times of the day do you feel at your best and your worst?

6. What problems do you have with sleep?

7. What kind of dreams do you have? If you have a reoccurring dream or pattern in your dreams, please describe them.

8. What is your physical energy like? Are particular activities difficult for you?

9. What kinds of medical treatment have you had in the past? Have there been any bad reactions to medicines, including vaccines?

Hi Dr. David,
Please find my response to your questions.
Question: If you have not done this by the time you have covered your problems, discuss the problems you have generally had in your life. What have been the big traumas, the big issues for you? Where have you felt unable to change, where do you get stuck repeating the same behaviours?
Reply: As I explained you earlier, I am suffering from Alopecia since more 2.5 years.
This was noticed as falling of large amount of hairs along with the extreme dandruff. It happened when I was staying alone for almost 3 months and remained frustrated for leaving my highly paid job under the responsibility of my family in the wake to get other opportunity of higher studies because of my personal interest. Since this opportunity was not turning up due to VISA related issues, I was worried a lot and repenting. In this situation I had to search a new employment and start the carrier a fresh.

Question: Also discuss the issues you might have had in childhood. Talk about your family, your upbringing, your parents. What kind of child were you? What did you fear, what did you aspire to, what do you remember the most?
Reply: I belong to Indian medium class family. During my childhood, I have paid more attention towards studies than any extracurricular activities. Most of my childhood has passed in the boarding school away from my family. On family front, I have two sisters and two brothers including me. Since almost 6 years, I am successfully married and have a kid who is 5 years old. Mostly I fear from doing wrong things where I can’t boldly speak out or stand for.
In my life I aspired to be an engineer/ scientist where I can do some innovative work. I think I am fairly successful in achieving my goals.

Question: Lastly talk about the way in which you handle or cope with your problems. What are the patterns that reoccur in your life? How do you find yourself managing your problems, even if it is not successful? To what degree do your problems affect you? How do you think everything will work out in the end for you?
Reply: In day-to-day life I come across the problems and issues. Mostly I try to resolve them through personal discussions. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Sometimes, I try to resolve them through meetings and involving other people. When I feel cheated for something, I take it bit seriously and try to resolve through other means like official, legal or intimidation. If I am not successful through all the means and find that the solution of the problem seems out of my reach, I give up thinking that it was not favourable due to my fate. I feel satisfied that I tried from my end.
As an individual, many times I retrospect on my acts what I have done and sometimes I do repent if I have done something wrong or taken some wrong decisions.

General health questions:

1. What foods and drinks do you crave? A craving is not just liking something but a very strong desire that you must fulfill very often.
I am completely vegetarian. There is no specific food or drink I crave for. In the Indian vegetarian foods, I prefer to eat medium spicy food cooked in Indian spices and style. Also, I like to eat Indian chat items and sweets.
In the drinks, I prefer tea, milk coffee, fruit juices and fruit-milk shakes

2. What foods and drinks do you hate?
I even hate the Indian foods cooked too spicy. I don’t like extra chillies, extra fat in the food.
I don’t like to have cold and hot drinks though sometimes I may take for socializing.

3. What kinds of weather and temperature are you sensitive to?
I don’t like extreme hot and humid weather. I can observe smelling sweat in my body in those weathers. Also, I don’t like the rainy season, it makes me lethargic.

4. Is there anything else in the environment you seem more affected by than other people?
Change of water and food in journeys can upset my stomach. Sometimes I get hot boils on the lips more often than others. I don’t know the specific reason.
In the behavioural terms, I find hard to tolerate when I notice that someone has deceived or cheated me.

5. What times of the day do you feel at your best and your worst?
I feel more energetic in between 9-12 AM and 3:00PM to 5:00 PM. The time soon after the lunch is uncomfortable and sleepy. I also feel comfortable in working at late night.

6. What problems do you have with sleep?
Generally I have a good sleep. However, sometimes I do not sleep for full 8 hours due to my late night going to bed and waking up at regular time to reach the office in time. I have also noticed that though I have full sleep, I often feel sleepy in the day time. If I get opportunity for a short nap in a day, I would prefer to take short naps between the work/study. It makes me more energetic and active. Sometimes, I really find hard to control my sleep in the daytime during work, study or meetings.

7. What kind of dreams do you have? If you have a reoccurring dream or pattern in your dreams, please describe them.
Generally I don’t dream. Often my dreams do not reoccur. But, I recall the type of dream which I might have witnessed in recent past. A situation where I might have to react physically, but something hold me up and I screamed in fear and inactivity.

8. What is your physical energy like? Are particular activities difficult for you?
I find myself physically energetic. I prefer to walk in the nearby places. Also, I prefer to do many tasks of my own though it requires extra physical labour.
I do my study/technical / office work slowly. I feel I get my attention distracted to many other things while doing one task. And that’s why it consumes more time in finishing my work.
Where ever technical work is involved, I first want to understand all the technicalities involved and the root of the problem before starting to work on it. In this case, it takes more time to produce the results and complete the task as I go off the track many times during my task.
I find some of the tasks difficult where extra care and attention is required. I am fearful to do mistakes. For example- driving, though I can do it. Also, I find difficult in performing artistic tasks (creating/ drawing/paining, mimicry, dance, poetry, cracking jokes etc.) though I like and admire the art.
Many times, I find difficult to pretend and lie in situations where I need to do so.

9. What kinds of medical treatment have you had in the past? Have there been any bad reactions to medicines, including vaccines?
When I noted the hair loss in patches in my head, I also noticed small pimples filled with pus in the root of the hairs in the body mostly on abdomen, back and thighs. Later on the same sort of pimples also started appearing in the root of the hairs in the head. As a remedy, I started applying Mintop in the head for hair loss in patches, but it did not help out. I also applied local medication like onion juice for regrowth of hairs but with no help.
Then, I consulted with a dermatologist. He advised for plenty of blood tests. After the test, he did not find anything. Finally, he gave corticosteroid injections in the head along with the some ointment for local application. The response was not satisfactory. The hairs grew up only at few places but the formation of pimples and new patches did not stop at all. The doctor had no reason for pus filled pimples in the head.
Later on when the pimples aggravated in the head, I consulted for homeopathic remedy. Few drops of sulphur in the empty stomach did the miracle. The pimples came out on sudden and then stopped after sometimes. Afterwards, many medicines like Lycopodium, Phosphorus, Calc. Carb, Nat. Mur. etc. were taken for stopping the formation of new patches and regrowth of new hair, but it did not help.
Later on Acid Flour 200 was introduced with the start of few drops of Sulphur. Perhaps, it helped and stopped the formation of new patches. Hairs also grew in the many new/recent patches however the hair growth was quite slow in the old patches.
It seemed the problem is completely resolved. But after 10 months, the new patches started forming again. It seems, Acid Flour 200 does not work now.
Since then I am consulting in ABC and started Arnica 30 in wet dose and Arnica Q in local application. I could notice a good amount of hair regrowth in the patches, even some improvement in the older ones, but it has not stopped forming the new and small patches.
I don’t notice any other medications or reactions with any of them.
Apart from the above major issue, I would like to bring to your kind notice that I often find rashes in my crotch. This is happening since my childhood (Age 12 years). Therefore to avoid any inconvenience, and formation of rashes/ aggravation and etching, I always use dusting powder daily after the bath. I am using the dusting powder since 7-8 years. The day I forget to use, I find itching and rashes in the crotch. I don’t know if this issue is any way related or not.

Kind Regards,
Vimal

What was the experience of leaving a high paid job and having to look for new employment?

What was it like to be at home alone for 3 months?

What kind of wrong things might you do that would worry you?

If someone cheats you, what exactly do you do to handle the situation? Can you give some examples of being cheated or deceived?

Why is it that you stay up so late at night?

What would happen if you made a mistake in your work?

What are the situations where a person needs to pretend or lie?

Hi Dr. David,

Pl. find reply to your queries-
Question: What was the experience of leaving a high paid job and having to look for new employment?
Reply: I was feeling frustrated. I was thinking that I did a mistake. And now I don’t have anything in my hands. I was worried what’s going to be the future. It was bit of struggle as well for the search of new employment.

Question: What was it like to be at home alone for 3 months?
Reply: I was living without my family during this period. I was studying and searching for a new employment.

Question: What kind of wrong things might you do that would worry you?
Reply: Anything in terms of earlier decisions which later on I felt was not good.

Question: If someone cheats you, what exactly do you do to handle the situation? Can you give some examples of being cheated or deceived?
Reply: First of all I get furious. I can shout at and scold the person.
For an example, I have noticed many meter-tampered taxi drivers in India. I feel very irritated as soon as I notice them that their meters are tampered. I shout at them and intimidate them to take to the police.

Question: Why is it that you stay up so late at night?
Reply: To complete some pending tasks what I have planned- some study, some work on internet, emails, chatting etc.

Question: What would happen if you made a mistake in your work?
Reply: Seeing the type of mistake, I would react differently. If its silly mistake and I did not pay much attention earlier, I would not bother. If it was technical mistake and I had already paid a enough attention, I would feel bad and I would try to understand why & how it happened.

Question: What are the situations where a person needs to pretend or lie?
Reply: Many times, I have noticed that a person shows off for his good/ different image. He lies to keep you in dark for some benefit out of that.

Kind Regards,
Vimal

Ok the remedy I would like you to get is Nux-vomica. I do not think the state is too intense, so I would like you to start with 30c. However if you have to order your remedies to be sent to you, I would also get 200c.

When I look at the time of your life that the alopecia appeared, I see that there was a loss of income, security and independence. This created anxiety and worry in you, which drove you to make up your loss as quickly as possible. This situation points to Nux-vomica.

The character of Nux is to do everything right, to work hard, to stay up late, to do all that is required of them exactly right. They are sensitive to being deceived, and such events make them very angry. They can be very hot-headed at times. Nux-vomica often finds it hard to sleep at night, but is sleepy during the day. They are often very tired after meals, especially lunch. The can crave spicy food, milke and tea, but can be badly affected by very spicy food. The general strategy for a Nux-vomica person is to set goals, and work diligently towards them, and then they can rest once it it done. However, they can easily get stuck in the working hard phase, and find rest quite difficult. This stress will result in a variety of symptoms for them, which they often call 'stress symptoms'.

INSTRUCTONS FOR SPLIT DOSING

Firstly, you need to create a separate dosing bottle. Get a bottle with a dropper, 15-30mls in size, and fill it with a mixture of water and alcohol (5 parts to 1 part). Dissolve 2-4 granules or 2-4 drops of the medicine you bought from the pharmacy into this mixture. Your doses will be made from this bottle.

Hit the bottle firmly against the palm of your hand, or another elastic surface like a book. It should be a firm hit not a tap. 2 hits is enough to begin with, and should not be increased unless it is clear that it is needed. The water in this bottle will 'remember' the number of times you have hit it, so that subsequent doses will be stronger (necessary to overcoming the resistance of your disease).

Place 1 drop into an amount of water - I may start with anything from 1/4-1 full cup (62ml-250ml) depending on the sensitivity of the patient. Stir thoroughly and take 1 teaspoon into the mouth. Throw the rest of the cup away. Wash the cup and spoon in hot water, no detergent, and put them to the side for further dosing.

This is one dose. Repeat doses would be started from the 2 hits on the bottle.

Each step of this process can be adjusted to reduced aggravation or to increase the effect of the medicine. In order to be able to do this, it is important to measure each step (count the hits, the drops, measure the water etc).

Start with 30c. After making the dosing bottle, hit it twice, place 1 drop in 1/4 cup of water, stir and take 2 teaspoons into the mouth.

Do this twice - the second dose should be two days after the first. Do not repeat that dose if the first one has a marked effect on you (aggravation or improvement).

Thanks Dr. David for all the information and the remedy. I will start the remedy as per your recommendation. Just some clarifications please..
(a) are you advising to take the medicine for only two times?
(b) you have advised to prepare the medicine in 5 parts water, and one part alcohol. Would you please advise what sort of alcohol to get and from where?
(c) Currently I have got Nux-Vomica 200c in my medicine kit. Would you please advise me to start the medicine from 200 potency or I should get 30c?
(d) Any specific time to take the medicine- Nux Vomica?

Thanks and kind regards,
Vimal

I am advising you to begin by taking it two times only and then we will assess the reaction.

Any kind of spiritous alcohol is fine - vodka, brandy, whisky, even pure ethanol alcohol if you can get it. Avoid anything with other substances added to it like peppermint, milk or cream.

I think 30c is a better place to start for you. It is important not to go too high too quickly, as the medicine may appear not to work, or it can cause a stronger aggravation.

Timing of your dose does not matter at all.

Hi Dr. David,

Today I have taken the second dose of the remedy as you prescribed. I did not notice any change after the first dose and that's why I took the second dose today after 2 days of the first dose.

Kindly advise what should I try to notice and since how long I should wait for any response?

Since three weeks before, I had noticed some newly formed small patches which seems to be growing further. It is not understood what should be done to stop at least the formation of the new patches.

For your information, I have stopped taking Arnica 30C before starting your remedy. I am just applying Arnica Q locally in the bald patches.

You must stop the local application of Arnica as well. Using something in that manner is likely to suppress and will interfere with the process of cure.

Can you go through all your symptoms and check that nothing has changed. The alopecia will not be the first thing that is affected by the remedy, and in fact it may be the last.

brisbanehomoeopath last decade
Hi Dr. David,

Soon after your message, I stopped Arnica Q from local application.

As per your advice, I am constantly trying to observe any remarkable change in the symptoms/behaviour/activities discussed above. But I could not notice anything as such.

What I could notice with due uncertainty of any aggravation is that-
(1) There seems to be a new pea sized patch observed since 2 days

(2) The pea sized patch formed 3.5 weeks before is progressing towards a pence size

One remarkable thing which I would like to add in whole description of symptoms is about the location of patches. In the beginning most of the patches were formed in the left of my head. And, now the patches are formed in the right of the head. One patch has formed in the back of the head as well.

Kind Regards,
Vimal

Hi Dr. David,

It has been almost 10 days I took the remedy (Nux Vom 30C), stopped Arnica 30, and almost a week since I stopped Arnica 'Q' used as local application.

Since then I am constantly observing any change in my condition.

During this period, I have posted my observations above. Along with that I noticed a slight headache for 2 days which subsided itself afterwards. I am not very sure that this was due to effect of any medicine or any other reason.

Other than that I don't find any change- any aggravation or any improvement.

Therefore, would you please advise what I should do next?

Kind Regards,
Vimal

Hi Dr. David,

I am keenly waiting for your response.

Looking into your classical method of analysis and diagnosis, I have great hope from you. No one else has earlier tried to individualise the case as you have done.

I had almost lost the hope. After you taking up my case, I have developed the hope again. So, please respond and guide the next action. Currently I am observing lot of hair fall since 2-3 days.

Kind Regards,

Hi Dr. David,
If you are reading and observing my messages, I would like to inform you that I am observing some changes. However I am not very sure that it is the effect of the medicine or something else or common. The observations are as follows.

(1) There is increased hair loss. Effect is lesser hair density at particular places, but not exactly big circular patches as use to happen earlier.
(2) I am observing increased gas formation in the stomach. Observed more in the morning after the night sleep. Discharge of the gas is mostly throgh mouth. The effect is light headache, just noticeable, and remains through out the day.

Please judge the situation and advise.

Vimal

When making the Arnica Q for the external use do you also make it from the Arnica 30c drops?

Do you have luck with this protocol in regular thinning of hair.

Thank you,
