Post Herpetic Neuralgia/pharmaceuticals and homeopathy

My husband still is dealing with post herpetic neuralgia and is also still taking pharmaceuticals. He wants to stop taking the drugs. As I've weaned him off, I began introducing Hypericum for his symptoms, but no response at all. What would be the best way to transition him onto remedies from pharmaceuticals?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Please try the following remedies one by one for few days and see whether it helps. The remedy should be given in the morning and evening daily.
rhus tox 30
arsenic alb 30
spigelia 30

If the patient prefers cold surroundings phosphorus 30 may help instead of the above remedies.

Male: 66 years old: climate damp/cold: Symptoms include burning, numbness, nerve spasms which cause leg to jump, a feeling as if tight band around thigh. Original outbreak on inner aspect of left shin, which is where the majority of symptoms occur now. Prefers sour/salty. Now taking Gabapentin and periodically pain med. Mentally handling pain etc., quite well but does get frustrated. Touch sometimes aggravates symptoms. Original outbreak in Sept. of 2011 - lasted approximately 2 weeks. Neither heat nor cold ameliorates or increases symptoms.

Male; 66 years old; married; wt. 150; ht. 5'6'; reside in USA; weather cold/damp.

Symptoms: burning along old lesion line. Nerve spasms resulting in leg jerks; nerve pain along old lesion line; sensation of tourniquet around thigh; knee unstable; numbness.

Acute onset of Shingles 9/11 lasting approx. 2 wks. before lesions dried completely. Post herpetic neuralgia continuing to present.

no other physical problems i.e., diabetes etc.
prefers salty taste
drinks approx 1 gal water daily

taste normal

tongue; edges scalloped and red, whitish coating with small cracks and few small red bumps.

B/P 140/70

Constant 'discomfort' usually tolerable, but without pharmaceuticals there is burning, nerve pain, nerve spasm, some itching. He can have difficulty with weight bearing when that 'tourniquet' feeling is manifesting or when numbness manifests around knee.

His attitude now is 'Something I have to live with'
Mentally resigned to condition, altho it does make him feel 'old'.

Past childhood trauma - forced to eat own vomit in foster care. Anger comes from this and he still refuses to eat garbanzo beans (caused him to vomit)and cannot deal with vomit to the point of not allowing himself to vomit.

He 'talks' with his hands.

Meds currently on: Gabapentin for nerve involvement: Hydrocodone as needed for pain. No routine meds in past except for occasional use of antibiotics.

Family history: Sicilian, father deceased, mother with dementia. No direct contact with family for 40 years.

Now retired but 15 years as Police Officer and 10 years as Fire Forest Officer.

Prefers salty, sweet and sour tastes.
tendancy towards impatience. Works very quickly, walks quickly, angers quickly but less so with age, happily married for 37 years. Outgoing, diplomatic, well liked and trusted. Prefers quiet and nature.

Symptoms worse after noon, say 1PM on, especially after activity. Located on inner aspect of left shin, ankle and thigh. All symptoms left sided. Secretions at time of onset were clear, nothing now.
