Maheeru- Please help with young baby

Hi Maheeru

I am hoping you can please help, my infant son (he will be 17 weeks tomorrow) is now struggling with a chronic skin issue and now an acute cough / cold. I have been on here for the past 3 plus weeks regarding his skin and have tried a few things but to no avail.

My son is very easy going, happy, playful, alert, interactive, baby who also is a great sleeper - this has been him since the day he was born.

Details/Symptoms:
Approximately 4 weeks ago he developed what appeared to be eczema on his face and neck and sever cradle cap. The rest of him had remained soft and clear. We live in Calgary, Canada which is extremely dry and has been very intermittent with very cold spells. We tried various topical lotions/oils to try to calm and moisturize the bothered areas, and only slight relief was ever found (more just the surrounding skin). We have tried Belladonna 6C for three days and then Ars Alb 30CH on the fourth day, with no improvement. This was a few weeks ago.

This entire time he has remained in great spirits, happy, fun, engaging, loves being held and played with, the only emotional change has been when his skin is really bothering him and can not keep his hands of off it and he gets frustrated and upset. Generally carrying him, snuggling him, and keeping him cool help distract him. He dose require to be held to sleep - this is when he is bugged the most by his skin.

Today:
We are in Maui, have been here almost a week. His skin on his face is the same, his neck is much worse and oouzy, and he has spread a bit to his chest. His cradle cap is a bit better, more patchy now. He is much worse when he is hot, when lying down, just before feeding, when tired, or when sleeping (it wakes him up frequently). He seems less bothered when being held, when outside in the shade and wind (loves to be in wind), & when playing.
Newer issue/symptoms - and perhaps now more pressing:
He now has a cold with a terrible cough! Presented with a raspy non-productive cough first yesterday and today the cough is raspy with a rattle, and has just become productive (this morning he coughed up some creamy greenish phlegm - just the one time to date). As well this morning his sinuses are congested, drippy with some clear some thick-creamy-greenish.

At a loss, terribly worried and hoping to help him find some relief.

As mentioned we are in Maui, we did bring some remedies (all pilluiles & all 30ch), as well as pascoleucyn and gripps. There is an organic market near us that carries a good selection of remedies (again all pilluiles and 30ch).

Thank you & I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi Laura

Prepare a 250 ml water solution with Merc. sol. 30c two pills. From this solution give a drop as a dose. From the second dose onwards, you need to shake the bottle up and down for 5 times just before the dose.

Dose him two times a day for three days and report changes appropriately.

Hi Maheeru

Thank you so much for your response. Here is where we are at:

We gave the first dose on Friday evening (it was by this time that we were able to pick up the Merc. sol.). That night my son slept a bit better, he still needed to be held but was OK with lying down. The next morning, shortly after the second dose he had about 5 FULL poop diapers, (this is not the norm for him, normally he has 1 large poop per day and possibly 1 or 2 slight poops later in the day). Everything else remained the same. We gave the 3rd dose on Saturday evening, and again no changes with any of his symptoms. We gave him his 4th and 5th doses on Sunday, and again we have seen no changes in him in anyway - with the exception of sleeping lying down as long as he is being held - he will still wake every few hours as his skin will be bothering him.

We gave him is 6th dose on Monday morning, and this was our last day in Maui. We went on a drive tour of part of the island in the afternoon, prior to heading to the airport, and he had a great 2 hour nap in his car seat as we drove (something he had not done since we got to Maui but that he often did at home even on short trips).

His cough and skin still bothered him on the flight and now that we are back at home things are still the same.

We have a (winter) storm warning for the next few days so I am not sure how much the drastic change in weather is going to effect things.

He cough is still quite worrisome, not to mention it is going to be very difficult to function with him always needing to be held and my husband heading back to work.

Not sure if it is relative but my 3.5 year old daughter has a cold with a cough (moody/emotional roller coaster, runny nose, tired but has a hard time sleeping), and I have now come down with something - sore throat off and on, exhausted, emotional (back and forth from feeling very positive to down, stuffed nose - thick).

My son is exclusively BF, and I am on no medications - however I have taken arnica to help with the pain in my throat (it has helped).

Not sure what to do next, I look forward to your thoughts and of coarse if more information is required please advise.

Thank you

Laura

Hi Laura

Please prepare a similar solution but with arsenicum album 200c one pill in 250ml water. Dosing is similar to how you did with the earlier medicine. But the frequency of dosing will be different. Give him a dose every 4 days after due shaking. Leave 3 days between every dose without medicine. You can give him upto 5 doses. Keep me reported periodically.

Thank you,

I gave my son his first dose yesterday late morning, and by that evening he was much MUCH worse.

His cough is hacking and rattely, and comes in fits and it seems as though he is chocking but never coughs anything up. He coughs about once an hour. Through the night while sleeping he was quite raspy. Also upon waking and sometimes after eating he has a very runny nose - thick, stringy, yellowish.

His skin on his face, neck, and chest is much more red and irritated and he struggles to keep from severely scratching at it. As well he now has very dry and red patches behind his knees as well as on the fronts of his ankles.

He needs t be held constantly or he will become very irritated and start scratching at his face and chest. He even needs to be held to sleep. He now has crying fits and gets quite upset (and we are unclear as to what sets him off). This is completely unlike him!

His head (where he has cradle cap) has a slight oder - kind of like rotting twigs and his bowl movements and urine are quite foul smelling as well.

He will still play and smile and laugh as long as he is being held and is not to warm.

He is better in humidity air w/ shade and a warm breeze. Worse in high heat, and dry air.

Hoping tonight is a better night and that all this starts to move out of him.

Should I be doing anything else?

Thank you
Laura

Has your son recently started on solids has he started on dairy or wheat products or both because coughs, eczema and asthma are all caused by these to foods and I speak from experience and alot of research!

Hi Pixie Wood

Thanks for your response.

No, my son is exclusively BF and I have cut out dairy from my diet, and did cut out wheat & gluten when this all started, but would say it is in my diet in 'hidden' ways still.

Due to other family member allergies, I do not consume eggs, & peanuts (and the family), either.

Regards,

Laura

Ok that's good your trying this, my 1st son could not even have breast milk and he was still intolerant to that he had to go on a milk called neocate in the end it was the only thing he could drink and he was intolerant to ALL foods except chicken, lamb and vegetables, he is 6 now and is still on a dairy and wheat free diet but can eat all other foods, I can imagine what a horrible time this is for you but he will get through ok and so will you, good luck with everything Laura,

The remedies that desire to be held, and being held makes them better, are the following:

Nux-vom
Sepia
Ars
Sulph
Sul-ac
Lach
Sang
Nux-m
Tarent
Stram
Diph
Rhus-t
Gels

If I look at the choking cough, the rotten odour, the amelioration from humid weather, the amelioration from wind, the thick yellow mucous and the aggravation from warmth in the local symptoms, the only remedy that shows for all these symptoms is Nux-vomica.

Considering the acuteness of the situation it might be worth giving a single dose.

Hi Laura

Has he settled down? Please put ars. alb. 200c dose on hold.

If he has not settled down please give him a single dose of sulphur 30c prepared in a similar manner as above. Report changes after this.

maheeru last decade
Thank you Maheeru

Things have not improved, I had only given him the one dose of ars. alb 200c.

I will give him the sulphur 30c and let you know how things go.

Thank you again

Laura

Hi Maheer

I gave my son the sulphur 30ch prepared as suggested approximately 36hrs ago, and we have some changes / improvements!!!

His cough has cut down by 50%, and when he does cough it is more dry - yet still laboured, almost as if there is something there just a lot deeper now.

His skin has improved slightly, it is less red and he seems to be bothering with it less often. He still will bug at it when he is tired, hot, frustrated, hungry. His cradle cap is almost gone, however he has quite the redness now in his left groin - it does not seem to bother him but it looks painful.

He does not need to be held 100% of the time, however he still needs to be held to sleep (or will sleep in his car seat when the car is moving). He also seems to need me (mommy) a lot more, not as happy with dad or other family members. He is wanting to BF more frequently, and for longer amounts of time. As such he is also now spitting-up.

I am very pleased and THANKFUL to see some changes and some improvements. Wondering what to do next ...

Thank you so much

Laura

Hi Maheeru

Things continue to worsen, he is having a terrible time with his skin and is starting to get 'raspy' again. He not only need to be held all night but BF-ing him was the only way to comfort him and prevent him from constantly trying to scratch at his face and chest.

His diaper rash (very red area in his left groin area) is a deep red now and looks very painful.

His nose is becoming stuffy again, and it seems as though he constantly has 'crusties' in his nasal passage.

His cradle cap is worsening, and the bothered area on his face is much more red.

Please advise as to next steps.

Thank you and I look forward to hearing your thoughts.

Laura

Hi Laura yes give him another dose of sulphur as soon as you see my message. Three days later follow it up with another dose after due shaking(of the bottle).

Hi Maheeru

I have given my son the second and third dose. Between the second and third doses there was some changes:

Cough continued to improve, and he would sleep for longer stretches as long as he was being held or snuggling someone.

I gave him the third dose last night, and since then he has been very needed of mommy, nursing frequently, and still bugging at his face and neck. His cough is pretty much gone (he has only coughed if he has been quite upset - this has only happened if I have been unavailable for a few minutes and he has tired of being with his dad). There has been no improvement with his hot spot in his groin, although he does not seemed bothered by it.

He will still smile and play, especially if he is with me and has my full attention, however he will only tolerate being put down for very short periods of time.

I will give an update tomorrow of any further changes.

Regards,

Laura

Thank you

Just as an update: last night and today he has been extremely bothered by his skin. To the point where he is bugging at it even when he is asleep.

We have no signs of a cough :o) He still seems to be slightly congested - more that he almost constantly has a lot of 'crusties' in his nose.

This morning when he woke from his sleep he woke up screaming, quite distressed and it took a few minutes to calm him down - the same thing occurred after his nap. In both cases he did awake in my arms (same place he went to sleep). This is new, he generally wakes up with smiles EVEN if he is bugging at his skin. He also is not wanting to be alone, or in the dark AT ALL. Again this is new.

I will give him the next dose on day 5, if you still believe this is the right course.

Thank you

Laura

Hi Maheeru

We are really struggling with his skin. He is bothered by it all the time, and has a very hard time being put down.

He is being woken up almost every hour by his irritation.

He tends to have very 'waxy' ears, thick yellowish brown.

If he is with me and being held by me he is very happy - but will still bug at his skin. If his dad or other family member is holding him or playing with him he will only be happy for a very short time and then he MUST be with me.

I am exhausted and worried that he is not getting the sleep he requires.

On the positive, his cold seems gone :o)

Are we still on the right track with the Sulphur?

Thank you

Laura

Hello,
I have a baby that also suffered skin problem. Please follow the docs advise here, but one thing that helped my child was: take a midium sized soft but thick towel, a big pot of warm water, aloe and chamolile lotion that has no chemicals in it (if you dont have anything like that, keep coconut oil handy) Undress the child, and immidiatly soak the towel in warm water, wring it and wrap the baby in it. Keep it there for a little while so the skin absorbs as much moisture it could, but dont let the towel get cold. repeat the same procedure again a couple of time more (do this on his scalp too. When you do the last time (before water turns cold), apply generous amount of coconut oil or aloe+ lavender cream-generously all over. Make sure you apply before the skin and scalp dry.If you are applying cream, make sur eit does not have any fragrance. Also avoid olive oil (it gave my dughter big blotchy itchy rashes-same with avacado). Also look into your laundry detergent. make sure you wash them with sulphate free, and fragrance free detergent. I buy Rock Hard detergent. They are expensive but what to do? it is a good detergent, I cannot use anything else except that for my baby. Also central heating does no good to the skins of these babies, try keeping him away from direct drafts.
Hope fully you will see some change soon-for the good.
