Homeopaths: Anyone had experience using Caladium for impotence?

I have never used Caladium in my practice. For some reason, it's never come up for anyone. I have a 58-year-old male patient who has what I would call "emotional impotency." Stress destroys his libido and abiilty to get an erection. Yes, I have him on Seroctin (which is helping his anxiety) and yes, I have him on great adrenal-strengthening tonics.

But here's the catch: He's a smoker. Smokes American Spirits (natural tobacco). When he quit smoking for three weeks, two years ago (he was on vacation and promised his wife he would not smoke), he said he had less trouble with the erectile problem. Thus, the reduction of stress (the vacation) and the removal of the cigarettes helped the situation. Since Caladium mentions the "tobacco heart," and need for cigarettes (also used to wean off cigarettes) I was wondering if this sounded like a good match. He does match the restless sleep pattern, comatose sleep and much of the mental picture of Caladium. However, he is by all accounts a Sulphur personality. We've tried Nux, Lycopodium, Arnica and Baryta Carb and none have worked for the ED.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Used Calad some years ago to cure a benign breast tumor, but never for impotency.

If he is a Sul constitution then that high [10m-cm] one dose may do it.

I have had some success with medorrhinum high.

walkin last decade
Thanks, Walkin. I gave him a 200c dose of Sulphur back in early March. Within 6 days, he came down with (what he said) was the worst head cold he ever had in his life. He was very sick (fever for a day, feeling out of his body, couldn't breathe...etc.) and it lasted for over a week. He was convinced it was caused by a virus going around at that time but it was too coincidental (also he admitted he had never gotten that sick in his life and it was less than a week after getting a single dose of sulphur.). During that time and for about 10 days afterward, he said that he didn't crave cigarettes and that he felt he could finally kick the habit. However, after the reaction past, he went back to smoking. (He battles trying to quit all the time. When he can't, it corrupts his self-confidence even more.) Frankly, we have worked out his ROOT problem which is a lack of self-love. I was intrigued by an article I read (and posted somewhere here on the Forum last week) on Cuprum Arsenicosum written by Tinus Smits. He has a fascinating take on what he calls "Universal Layers." You might want to read it and see what you think. I'd love to get your take on his theory. His website is www tinussmits dot nl/english I like his take on Cuprum and relating the "cramping" it cures with those who have "cramped emotions" (i.e., have a hard time showing love).

I just found it again. Here it is:

The mental picture of Cuprum metallicum is relatively unknown to most homoeopaths. In order to develop the essence of a remedy, a number of cured cases need to be systematically analyzed and followed-up. It takes painstaking work to trace down the picture and additions of a remedy. At the same time it is a fascinating process to see the essence emerging and the variety of images presented in our patients. In this article the author presents 20 cases of Cuprum and summarizes his experience with this remedy.
ESSENCE
The mental image of Cuprum metallicum has slowly unfolded itself to me during about two years. My approach was to systematically ask all new patients in whom I considered Cuprum, all the symptoms that I found in previous successful Cuprum cases. In this way it was possible to verify the frequency of known symptoms and to add new symptoms. In this way I was able from 20 cases with a clear constitutional improvement to construct the mental image of Cuprum. With the years my experience with Cuprum metallicum increased and my insight in the deeper ground of this remedy revealed itself to me.
In some way the essence of this remedy is the same as that of Carcinosinum, but the way the Cuprum patient is handling his fundamental problem is different from the pure Carcinosin patient. I would describe the essence as: want of self-confidence with very strong desire to prove that he is not worthless by holding everything under his control. So there is much more power and strong will in Cuprum than in Carcinosinum. He tries to control his life at every price and prove that he can make it. This makes him inflexible, very respectful of rules, cautious, fastidious, fanatic, ambitious, persevering, dictatorial, hard worker, planning everything, good organizer and successful. When we study the causations of this remedy we find at the base of his behavior a great lack of approbation or constant disapproval, undermining of self-confidence, too high expectations from the parents, lack of opportunities to realize his abilities, to make a career. He lives constantly in too much stress causing mental or physical exhaustion and overexertion of mind. Because of his control he is unable to let go his emotions.
On the physical level there is always some form of cramp or tension: migraine, epilepsy, asthma, hypertension, angina pectoris, tension in the neck and shoulders and cramps in the muscles, especially the toes.
DIFFERENTIAL OF CUPRUM METALLICUM
Once the essence of Cuprum Metallicum is understood, it appears to be more frequently indicated than we would expect. The most difficult differential is with Carcinosinum, which has many symptoms in common. The provings of Templeton on Carcinocin show a cerebral torpor and mental inertia together with a feeling of tightness or constriction. Some publications stress the rigidity of the personality and lack of adaption. I understood after years of prescribing both remedies Cuprum and Carcinosinum that this rigid side is part of the Cuprum picture and if present in an apparent Carcinosin patient belongs to the Copper part more or less present in these patients. The remedy should be then Carcinosinum cum Cuprum.
Another differential is with Arsenicum Album because of the enormous anxiety, fear of death, fastidiousness, cautiousness, amelioration from occupation, anxious restlessness and anticipation. But in the Arsenicum patient there is much more dependence, he needs others to be reassured and to feel in security. The Cuprum patient presents itself much more as a strong personality who relies only on himself and hates to be dependant on others. Cuprum arsenicosum can be a good choice when in a Cuprum patient there is a tremendous anxiety and restlessness.
CHILDREN
Cuprum children can be very difficult because of their great tension, irritability and maliciousness. They are not soft children and are difficult to handle with aversion to touch or to be approached. They can be timid with fear of strangers and aggressiveness, driving the parents to despair.

Anyway, this same patient has on and off again cramping in his calves which we have seemed to help with liquid minerals. Here's the irony, Walkin: through the use of natural medicine and a great diet, this guy now looks younger and better than he did in photos I saw of him 15 years ago. It's a true testament to what natural medicine can and does do. So, I was debating whether to give Cuprum arsenicosum a shot (do a split dose with a 6C potency) maybe every night or every other night for a bit to see the reaction. I know it won't effect (or shouldn't effect the impotency) but maybe their can be a connection to the lack of self-confidence and lack of self-love. Lots of mother issues with this guy, by the way. But he is working on them in a very open and positive manner.

He is extremely sensitive to any and all natural and synthetic medicines so I need to not create another overwhelming reaction as the Sulphur if possible. That experience put him over the top physically. He's got two months of major business travel and family obligations and so whatever I choose for him has to be something that he can deal with without having to retreat to bed or feel as if his world is caving in on him. Then again, this impotency issue is certainly causing him to feel as if the world is against him...

Also, the reason I know that the impotency issue is stress/mental related is that he is on so many supportive adrenal, thyroid, pituitary herbs as well as great circulatory remdies (pycnogenol, arginine, ginkgo, hawthorn) that it just does not make sense "on paper" about the ED. If I gave half of what this guy is taking to someone, they'd be like a 20 year old.

Any ideas? Cuprum arsenicosum? Or????
