Boy is my throat sore
Picked this up about 5 days ago: low grade fever, evenings. Conjunctivitis - red with yellow goop that glues eyelids shut overnight. Loss of smell/taste with partially stopped up nose. Some lung congestion with pale green phlegm. First, lost voice, then found it, but throat progressed into *exquisitely* painful throat, with pus-filled abscesses along and around throat with swollen glands in throat externally. Worse on swallowing, worse in evening and night. Better with warm drinks only.I tried silica (30c)first, which did a great job of clearing up eyes and nose congestion. However, still have intermittant fever with sweat followed by chills in evening and this dang sore throat. Have tried Mercurius (30x - 3 doses) and Hepar Sulf. (first 6c - 3 doses, then next day tried 30c - 3 doses.)
Symptoms do not seem to be worse on one side or the other, so I am stumped what, if anything, to try next.
Ideas?

Always put Hep Sul between sil &merc.
If you can get Hep Sul 3x , then try it three times a day for 5-7 days and STOP.

Thank you so much for the Bell suggestion. It helped immediately this morning. Need to take another dose this evening as my symptoms have returned.
My wife and I have been practicing home homeopathy for 15 years or so. Over the years we have seen a number of Homeopaths and have had some good successes prescribing for ourselves. However, I have rarely been successful with colds and coughs. With the throat symptoms I described, I looked in the reference texts we have here, I used the ABCHomeopathy online guide. None would have gotten me to Belladonna.
Additionally, I have not seen much in our reference texts about compatibility (such as the comment about not following Silica with Mercurius).
So, my questions:
--What did I miss with not finding Belladonna? Are there some pearls of wisdom to help the lay person with home prescribing?
--Where do I find more information about remedy compatibility? (and what can happen if one follows silica with mercurius?)

I am happy that Bell helped you. The reason why you did not get this remedy from the ABC software is because it is rather basic and does not have the perspicuity of the human mind with the experience that it has especially in homeopathy.

Click on a few of the threads that I have authored like "Joe and Arnica" and a few others and you may be able to enjoy the controversy that I seemed to have started by the methods that I use in the practice of Homeopathy which in any case I do free of charge to all who come to me. I adopt the "This for That" principle which is more allopathic than homeopathic and I am sure that many classical homeopaths are envious of the success that I have had in treating patients on my own methods which the classical school would not dare to use as to them Homeopathy is like a religion which restricts their use of remedies in the manner that I use them. The main point is the proof of the pudding which I often use to remind them, like in the case of Bell helping you, that as long as one is confident that a given remedy can help a patient, there is no harm in trying it out on another who has the same symptoms.
It worked in your case and I am sure that you can use this same remedy in the future for this same problem.
I would also like you to do a ABS (antibiotic sensitivity test) for the bacteria that can be isolated from your throat. This is to eliminate the dreaded Beta Haemolyticus Streptococcus which is know to cause recurrent throat problems and also other more serious problems like Rheumatoid Arthritis, Nephritis and can also affect the heart valves. This test can be done at any Path Lab in your city.
One word of advice on the treatment of your tonsils. You can massage the tonsil fossa from under your jaw gently to stimilate the blood flow to this area which will also help your body to fight the infection.
Incidentally where do you live and how old are you ?
