Is there slight difference in action between calcarea ostrearum and calcarea carbonica?What do we get from homeopathic pharmacy, former or later?hpathyisgr8 on 2012-06-27

It depends on the source the pharmacy uses to make their medicine. Calc ostrearum is made from the middle layer of the oyster shell, Calc carb may actually come from another source like carbonate of lime precipitated from a solution of chalk in hydrochloric acid. Dr. Hahnemann used the oyster shell in his proving, Dr. Koch used the lime. These two provings have been combined because of the assumption the substance is the same.
Which clearly it is not. With all the new information being gathered on the difference between substances that come from the plant, animal and mineral kingdoms, it is likely that the two provings have differences.
As to whether these differences matter to any particular patient's case, only a homoeopath who understands those differences could tell. You would need to investigate at the pharmacy as to which substance they use.
