Infant reflux

Baby is 2 1/2 months old and in the past week was diagnosed with reflux. He has eczema as well. He is breastfed exclusively. Symptoms include painful crying after meals and late at night, occasional spit up, constant hiccups, straining to pass stool (constipation), straining to pass gas , runny stool, and restless nights. He prefers to be held all day. And is easily stirred to awake. What should I give him to alleviate his symptoms?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I shall copy below my default therapy for Baby GERD which has helped many baby patients.

Do not give baby the standard PPI drugs that a pediatrician may prescribe as they have proved to cause more damage than cure.

It is very likely that your baby suffers from Gastric Reflux aka GERD (Gastro Esophagal Reflux Disease)

The remedies that have proved to be very effective for Baby GERD are:

Nat Phos 6x dose half tablet dissolved in milk given immediately after a feed

Arnica 30c in the Wet dose given twice daily. Half teaspoonful is a dose.

The Wet dose of any Homeopathic remedy is made as follows:

Order the remedy in the Liquid pack in Alcohol, also referred to as Liquid Dilution in a bottle preferably with a dropper arrangement.
Get a 500ml bottle of Spring Water from the nearest supermarket.
Pour out about 3cm of water from the bottle to leave some airspace.
Insert 3 drops of the remedy into the bottle and shake the bottle hard at least 6 times before you sip a capfull of the bottle or a large teaspoonful which is the dose.
Shaking the bottle hard is homeopathic succussion and this enhances the effect of the remedy on the user.

You will STOP all other drugs prescribed for baby which as you have already seen have not done any good.

Please confirm that you burp baby immediately after each feed.

You will avoid eating all food that can cause any distress to baby. You must know that they are passed on to baby through your breast milk.

You (the mother) will take Nat Phos 6x dose 2 tablets after each of 3 meals daily and Arnica 30c in the Wet dose taken twice daily. The idea is that your milk will pass the effect to baby. You may like to know that this remedy will also help to reduce your weight by 1kg per week very safely.

Report progress in 24 hours and as often as you wish on this thread .

Thank you so much. I have already stopped medication for baby and he seems to be ok he is just straining to move bowels and when he does it is small and dry. I picked up the arnica and had to order the Nat Phos online as it isn't offered locally. Do I start the arnica treatment immediately or wait till the Nat Phos gets here? Also, how long do I take the remedy once I start?

I hope that you have got the Liquid Dilution of Arnica 30c. The standard pellets will not do. You will as instructed, insert just 3 drops into the 500ml bottle of water to make the remedy.

Arnica is really NOT indicated for baby GERD but since he presents Eczema you may give him a quarter teaspoonful per dose orally and apply the remedy water directly on his skin wherever he has any redness due to Eczema. You can do this as often as you can but please ensure that there is no back flow of the water back into the bottle when you take some for application. It is best to pour out some remedy water into a separate container which you will use for dampening baby's skin.

The Nat Phos 6x will hopefully settle both his Reflux and his constipation.

You the mother, will also benefit from the Nat Phos as it helps to reduce weight. Dose is 2 tablets taken after every meal. The effect of the NP carries over in your breast milk to baby and will help him to tide over his reflux.

Make sure that you order the Nat Phos Biochemic Cell Salt as the Homeopathic version in little pellets is not effective.

Yes, I purchased the liquid Arnica and purchased the Hyland Brand Nat Phos, it should be here in a day or so.

I have been giving the baby the Arnica et dose and Nat Phos the past couple of days. Since administering, he has not been spitting up and doesn't appear to be in pain during feedings. He is also having bowel movements again. My only concern now is that he has started waking earlier than usual at night and waking closer in intervals of 1-2 hours instead of every 3-4 hours to feed. I believe it is the Arnica.

Glad to learn that baby has improved with the therapy I prescribed.

I do not think that it is the Arnica that is responsible for his waking up more frequently but this will soon pass. I believe that this can be due to his body demanding the nourishment that he lacked during the time he was spitting up and also constipated a few months ago when he was in severe distress.

I must compliment you on NOT consulting your pediatrician who would have prescribed the standard PPI drug Nexium or equivalent which would have made a bad situation infinitely worse with dangerous side effects.

Report his progress from time to time as needed.
