Bac200 for two year old

Hello. My two year old (two and four months) was recently prescribed one dose of Nat Mur 30 and then one dose of Nat Mur 200 a week later for sleep problems, essentially frequent waking. The homeopath said that this was her contitutional remedy from all the information I provided. With both doses, she woke at midnight (normal for her) and then slept for about six straight hours which was great. It did not occur any other night. She broke out in dry eczema all over her body, particularly the truck and lower arms and her poo has been uncharacteristically soft (a bit firmer today). The last dose was about ten days ago (200c). She had "dormant" eczema at the time with no sign of it around at all. The homeopath has prescribed Bac200 - one dose. I am a bit nervous about giving it to her as she has never suffered from upper respiritory infections. Any suggestions? She mentioned something about a miasm and an intercurrent which I know nothing about. Thank you.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
By the way, she has had a BCG vaccination at about three months of age.

Bacillinum is not just based on the chest conditions. It will be based on family history and also on the eczema problems.

Thank you Erika. I guess I was a bit worried because a homeopath (not the current one) prescribed Silica 200 for FIVE days for my daughter's sleep patterns and she developed eczema. There is a family history but she had shown no signs of it til the silica. She was about a year old when this was prescribed and I would be mortified to bring out another "dis-ease". Thanks.

I have never prescribed a nosode for a baby and would prefer that you do not heed your homeopath's advice to give Bacillinum to your 2 year old baby for her eczema.

I am simply amazed how homeopaths prescribe remedies like Silicea 200 which is a deep acting remedy and is only used in a single dose even for adults and definitely not for 5 consecutive days when she was only a year old. As you state this resulted by her developing Eczema. I would also not give her Nat Mur 200 as she is only a 2 year old.

Please read my posts under Eczema for which I have consistently used Arnica 6c and if you have any questions please post them on this thread.

In the meanwhile I would urge you to stop all medication for your baby.

Hi Joe. I am so worried about going to qualified and registered homeopaths that are prescibing like this. I dont know what to do. I am trying to heal my child! Any suggestions?

I shall be happy to help if I can.

Please detail your problem with your baby from the beginning. Also list the drugs and homeopathic remedies you have used up to now.

Jules - I suggest you ask your homeopath about any of your worries.
Your homeopath will have taken a full history and prescribed on this, so if they are qualified, registered etc. then why not trust them???? they obviously trained well and have experience in prescribing.
I do not see a problem with the Bacillinum - I have found it a very gentle and helpful remedy.

Hi Erica, Thanks for your reply. I guess I was afraid of my little one "proving" the remedy. Her other homeopath was also registered, etc and he was the one who prescribed the five days of silica200 when she was one, and then she developed eczema. I guess Im just a bit careful now and I had read that Bac can only be given via prescription so I was just making sure. The little one has suffered so much from the eczema. Thanks for your care and concern. Jules

Hi Joe, Putting together a profile and will email you in a few days time. Thanks again.

that's ok. I'm sure you will get good help from Joe.
I was just pointing out that you may get the answers you are looking for if you ask your homeopath and tell him/her your worries.
Just because someone proves a remedy does not mean a homeopath made a bad choice - there are no bad or wrong choices in homeopathy, just choices based on the information given. :)

You might like to know that the reason why I discouraged you from taking Bacillinum 200 for your baby is because it is a Nosode.

I shall quote Boericke's Materia Medica below:

A Maceration of a Typical Tuberculous Lung introduced by Dr. Burnett.
Has been employed successfully in the treatment of tuberculosis; its good effects seen in the change of the sputum, which becomes decreased and more aerated and less purulent. Many forms of chronic non-tubercular disease are influenced favorably by Bacillinum, especially when bronchorrhÏa and dyspnÏa are present. Respiratory pyorrhea. The patient expectorates less.

Bacillinum is especially indicated for lungs of old people, with chronic catarrhal condition and enfeebled pulmonary circulation, attacks of suffocation at night with difficult cough. Suffocative catarrh. Tubercular meningitis. Favors falling off of tartar of teeth. Constant disposition to take cold.

I believe that it is best not used for babies.

Hi Joe
I would just like to reassure you that I understand your valid concerns and personally always consider carefully before suggesting a nosode and I am sure the homeopath concerned has done the same.
In clinical use I have seen Bacillinum benefit babies and children, as well as adults, moreso than tuberculinum for the tubercular miasm. The children needing this nosode may often be very shy, quite unlike the tuberculinum subject but with a similar family history (this is of course more easily seen in older children). Obviously cases cannot be quoted due to confidentiality, but a lot of them I have seen treated by myself and colleagues are eczematous and/or with chesty/asthma problems.
As long as the homeopath has looked carefully at the medical history of child and parents and has good reason to prescribe this helpful nosode then it will do good.
You are right that it would not be suitable if just 'pulled out of the hat' so to speak to do magic tricks - any remedy chosen in such a random way could not benefit a patient whatever age.
I also presume from the postings that this is an intercurrent dose of Bacillinum not a long ongoing treatment?

Thank you Erika for the information about Bacillinum. It just goes to show the variety of techniques used in prescribing Homeopathic remedies for ailments.

I only use Bacillinum 200 to help build up the resistance of a person who is catching frequent colds and it has invariably worked. I recommend that the dose is repeated in 2 weeks as a booster and the reports that I receive is that the colds are not caught any more.

I have also used this remedy when the patient has frequent bouts of Catarrh which does not react to other remedies and the reaction is often dramatic with the cattarhal symptoms disappearing like magic overnight.

I would still prefer not to use it for babies especially in this case where she reacted with eczema to Silicea 200.

Hello Joe and Erika, Thanks so much for your care and concern and also for all the info. Just to update: Felt I could trust this homeopath whose main interest is childrens health. I gave my little one the Bac200 and her eczema basically cleared OVERNIGHT! Three days later, the homeopath prescribed one dose of Mag Mur 30c. Noticed nothing more than her poo being formed again. I am still waiting for the "right" remedy for her sleep. Will post in a day or so the profile I have been compiling.

In short, this two year and four month old girl, loves water, singing and dancing, prefers to run instead of walk, hates blankets being tucked in, sneezes in sunlight like her mother, adores books and "reading", has warm hands and feet and doesnt seem to feel the cold, loves both salty and sweet, seems to have no fear, loves animals of all sizes but bigger is better and no fear at all of animals, even snapping geese and jumping dogs, loves playing "chasey", is ticklish and loves to laugh and is very playful, is very socialable and not at all shy, loves TV (everything is edited and mainly educational) and likes to have it on in the background even if not watching, dreams alot and I think this is what wakes her, late to roll, walk and talk and teeth, not good with teething but no rash, great spatial sense and great memory, knows her way to different shops and knows where things are on shelves, adores family and friends, affectionate with cuddles and kisses, has the occassional tantrum (short and not too bad) but often does not react if "told off" (eg telling her that writing on the wall is naughty), loves to climb and the park is a real favourite, always planning outings (eg "Lily's house", "friends house", "farm", "beach" , "park", "Nanna's house" are an assortment of her requests in the morning, has a lovely melodic voice and green eyes with very long lashes, olive skin, mid brown wavy hair with some curls and two crowns, long feet and fingers, is still breastfed and rather attached to this, love bubbles, licks soap and eats bath bubbles and doesnt seem fussed by the taste, likes to close drawers and doors, loves to jump, very active, tall (but not overly) for age, loves cucumber, straweberries, tomatoes and oranges, loves lemons and seems to like or not notice the sourness, eats rind of oranges and lemons and mandarines, loves bread and will often ask for it, loves bland rice, turkey and pine nuts, sunflower seeds, sweet biscuits and salty chips (the latter to not form part of her main diet!), loves juice although appears to have little thirst like her mother, will sip or take a few sips but not like incredibly thirsty. A happy child who rarely whines despite frequent night wakings.

By the way, I often see remedies prescribed for a week or ten days (say 30c each night for ten nights). When I asked my homeopath about this, she didnt really answer the qu and I basically got from her that there was no real need. Do some homeopaths prescribe one dose as she does and is this personal choice or is there some method to it? When my daughter took the Mag Mur, she had an uninterrupted run of six hours sleep on the nights that she had a dose of the 30 and a dose of the 200 (a week apart). Does this not tell us that the remedy is working? This homeopathy stuff is really confusing sometimes!

Any suggestions or comments would be most welcome! Jules

CORRECTION: When she had the Nat Mur she had a run of six hours of sleep (she still however, woke at around 11:30 - 12:00 midnight and then slept till about six.

Jules,

I am so happy that your little girl had a "Miracle Cure" of her eczema overnight with the Bacillinum 200. I presume that you gave her just one dose.

They say that one lives to learn, and I am indeed grateful to Erika who first put me wise about Bacillinum 200 for Eczema and to you for having confirmed that it worked. Erika has so much more experience than me that she has the advantage over me in the use of remedies. In my case I am not a professional homeopath as it is only my hobby which I use to help anyone who comes to me for help.

I feel that Erika will be best able to reply the question in your last para and shall await her reply.

I am so glad the bacillinum worked as you describe - I have truly found it of great use in eczema too.
Joe, I am not more experienced than you - your experience and love of homeopathy always inspires me! My experience only comes from what has been the blessing for me to meet on my path of learning, which I am sure is the same for you?!

As for the prescribing mode of homeopaths - this is an area which is really difficult to answer. Personally, I prescribe differently for each individual and try to match the energy of the potency to the energy of the patient. The frequency of repetition is also individual - for example a patient on regular medication (chemo, painkillers, HRT etc) usually needs the remedy repeated more frequently. Also, if a child has had a lot of steroids for eczema a daily repitition of low potency for a number of days may benefit more than one dose - whereas a child who has been free of former medication may only need one dose of a remedy. There are also certain patients who are so sensitive that they only need to sniff the remedy for one dose! It is variable, remarkable and totally individual............I hope this makes sense?
