Breast Lumps

A 42 year old woman presented with lumps in her breast. One is about 1"
diameter while the other is about 1/2". Both are in one breast. They are medium hard and are tender to the touch.

My first reaction was to have them checked with a mammogram and a needle biopsy was done and they tested benign.

She is quite normal in all other respects and is the mother of 2
children 19 and 17. She informed me that she first noticed the first
lump about 5 years ago and they got progressively larger. She
consulted doctors who only gave her analgesics for the pain. They had
all reassured her that they were benign .

I started her on Arnica 30c, split dose twice daily about 2 weeks ago in the hope that it will help to drain the lumps. She informed me
that she now sleeps very deeply with the Arnica and that the lumps are
not so tender to the touch.

I would like to have the thoughts of others who are more knowledgeable than me in the treatment of these breast lumps which I have no experience in treating.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Lumps in breast has to be examined. If they are loose (moving under the skin) we may try Baryata group of drugs. If the lumps are stuck deep we have use remedies for actual cancers (?).

In general try Bellis and remedies used for lipomas. Arnica works wonderfully if there is any (even remote) history of injury, in what ever form it may be, by external voilence etc. Usually a severe bite by an infant while suckling is ignored by many. Dr.Suresh

I have not palpated the breast but the husband informed me that the lumps are deep in the breast, not under the skin. The pain is gradually being reduced by the Arnica which she has been taking for the last 10 days.

Would you recommend Bell P 6c in the Wet Dose or a higher potency ?

What other remedy can reduce the lumps ?

I was thinking of Calc Phos 6c.

Breast lumps should be properly screened to rule out breast cancer. This is one thing where professional medical advice is a must.

This was exactly what I did and i mentioned this in my first post

"My first reaction was to have them checked with a mammogram and a needle biopsy was done and they tested benign."

It is worth asking whether this lady has history of taking the contraceptive pill as this can often cause such lumps.
when did they appear and was there any history of injury/trauma around this time?
another cause of fibrous type lumps anywhere is a thyroid imbalance.
as she is doing well on arnica then why not continue with this until it stops being effective?

sorry - I missed your note that they appeared 5 years ago. what happened around this time or in the year or two prior to this - also were there any changes in her periods around this time and since?

She was working in the Middle East 5 years ago when she first noticed it and there was no difference in her periods both then and now.

She does not also take any contraceptive tablets and there was also no injury or trauma to her breast at any time.

I have not checked her for thyroid imbalance but there is no visible signs of any enlargement of her thyroid. There is of course the faint chance of there being a nodule but this will have to be checked in detail afterwards if found necessary. She is generally quite sprightly and does not show any signs of any distress with her breast lumps except for their size

She and her husband are inveterate Betel chewers, a common habit especially in the hills, where they both hail from and this too could have been a cause of this problem although when she was in the Middle East, she did not chew any Betel as it was not available there.

I have been successful in persuading her and her husband to kick this Betel habit and they are off chewing now. It is possible that there may be some connection between the betel and the lumps.

I will look up Betel as I have no knowledge of this. It is interesting that the lumps seem to have appeared while she was not chewing the betel - does it contain nutrients or stimulants??
Was she happy in the middle east? did she start wearing tight bras at any point?

forgot to ask which breast are the lumps in?
although her periods no change is there any symptom to indicate fibroids?

Left Breast

No problem to indicate fibroids

Is she drinking coffee?
There is fibrocystic breast dis. with benign lumps forming in the breast and the cure may be as simple as stoping to drink coffee.(although I must admit it is highly improbable that lumps would form only in one breast)

I had good results with breast tumor but in a dog! mechanical injury prob. started it and CONIUM 12c single dose (but i believe she needs more than single dose) cured.

Phytolacca is said to be almost specific for breast but i have no exp. with it.

Even tough i'm less knowledgable than you Joe I'm posting anyway.

my suggestions similar to astra - conium, phytolacca, also asterias rubens.
these remedies are quite specific for breast tumours/growths.
for fibrous tumours phosphorous and thyroidinum also.
It is also worth suggesting that she take either evening primrose oil or starflower oil.

Thank you to both Astra and Erika.

This is the wonder of the Internet where one can count on the advice of so many people to solve a problem which was not possible 10 years ago.

No she does not drink coffee. But I believe that the Betel chew may have some bearing on this problem. This habit is unfortunately addictive as the Lime, Calcium Hydroxide a dab of which is used on the green leaf turns the saliva to a blood red colour which with the addition of Arecanut and a bit of tobacco provides the temporary upliftment in spirit which is difficult to get rid of.

However she has promised to stop the habit as has her husband and I shall await future reports.

She was checked by a surgeon to whom I first referred her for fibroids and he too agreed that the lumps were not cancerous and prescribed Paracetemol with Codein for the pain which she did not use as the Arnica helped to reduce it.

I shall keep you updated on progress.

Thank you both for your time.

After arnica makes no more progress, you may like to consider Bryonia 1, 8 hourly.

Bellis in 6c not more than twice daily to be admn,. Please try Cal Flour than Cal Phos. Remember Kali Phos is agood remedy for any Cancerous state (The case may not be actual cancer). Admn a single dose of high potency Medo 1m or CM and wait. This is for any growth.
