help - 2 year old cat has fip!

We just found out today one of two of our current cats probably has FIP. This will be our third cat to have what we believe to be FIP. Of course, since there is no test for FIP, based on the symptoms and progression of the illness, we believe the other two had and passed from FIP. We also believe that the other two cats had a dry form of the illness.

A little background: about 2 years ago (July 2010), we got our first and only pet, a 10-12 week old male kitten named Talon. A few months later (December 2010), he developed what we believe was the dry form of FIP. At first, he just seemed lethargic and uninterested in play. Within a couple of days, he would not walk and was eating and drinking less. A couple of days after that, we realized he was becoming paralyzed and we were force feeding him. Before his paralysis, we were not sure it was FIP and the vet had us try steroids, which did nothing to better the illness (and may have possibly made it worse). We were forced to let him go about three weeks after his symptoms first became apparent. We understand stress is a trigger for FIP and looking back we cannot identify any noticeable environmental stressors.

Fast forward about a month (January 2011), we decided to get two brother kittens that were 10 weeks old named Sig and Remington. We got rid of most of the other cat's toys and such and sterilized what we kept just in case. About five months later (May 2011), Sig developed similar symptoms while we were on vacation and they were staying at a family member's home. Within 4-5 days of his symptoms becoming apparent, he too became paralyzed and we were forced to let him go. The time frame for this kitten was much quicker than the approximately three weeks we had with our first. We believe this increased progression is due to the environmental stress of him being somewhere new and the lack of our presence. Up until this time, his survived brother Remington has been fairly healthy, free of any FIP related symptoms.

Now, about a year and a half later, Remington (now just over 2 years old) has begun to develop similar symptoms. Lethargy, aversion to eating, will not play, drinking less, dry/disheveled fur (please note that we do have another cat now, Trigger, that we got as a playmate for Remington after Sig passed. Trigger and Remington love each and always play and cuddle, until now). We noticed Remington acting out of his ordinary about 5-7days ago. At that point, he was still eating and drinking, but almost hiding and not playing with the other cat. He was very lethargic and had an empty stare. It wasn't until yesterday it became apparent he has not been eating, however, his energy level has increased a bit. Now he is not hiding and he has started to come up and cuddle with us again. In fact, he is napping on my lap as I type. We took him to the vet today where they took a urine sample, did blood work and an ultrasound. His urine shows jaundice and his the only item in his blood that is abnormal are what we remember being his Bilirubin levels. The ultrasound showed fluid, so the vet is sending the fluid out for PCR testing. The vet believes he probably has FIP and gave him an appetite stimulant hoping we can get him to eat. We have him home with us now, watching over him, making sure he will eat and drink.

Remington's condition as of 8am this morning: low energy level (he can still jump upon the bed/couch, but very slow), overall relaxed (not stressed), will not eat on his own (we have been force feeding him small meals often since yesterday), he was drinking on his own up until yesterday (since I am at work, I am not sure if he is still drinking on his own), weight loss, dry (not smooth) fur.

We are willing and want to try homeopathic treatment but do not know where to start. Please help!

Warm Thanks,
Tiffany
