2yr old boy- dr dx ear infect

My 25 month old son went to the doctor to see about the diarrhea and vommiting he has had for five days. While there he was diagnosed with a middle ear infection in his right ear. His diarrhea and vommiting have passed with more appropriate diet- starchy foods, not fats, no dairy, bannanas and applesauce- acidophilus twice a day. he does not seem to complain of ear pain but he does seem to be clingy and very angry- he hits us and scratches us which is strange for him. no fever since the vommiting started a week ago. he has a slight stuffy nose- we all do- something in the air? maybe dust in our house- we are remodeling our bathrooms. should I try to treat his ear with drops or chamomilla- I looked in his ear there is a lot of orange wax and the ear drum is bulging but no discharge and hardly any redness. he has never taken anitbiotics he has had other ear pain in the past that passed after a few days I have only ever used similison drops and tylenolfor ear pain.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
after reading other posts I realized I might not have given enough information so I will add more. My son, Moses, is 25 months old he was born six weeks premature because I had pre-eclampsia my labor was induced. (I was given high doses of Iv magnesium) it was a vaginal delivery with no anesthesia. He weighed 3lbs 15 oz and was in the NICU for 10 days. He had jaundice for the first month of his life and was treated with photo therapy for much of that time both at home and in the hospital. I breastfed him until he was 16months old. he was diagnosed with herpangina at 9 months of age but otherwise had no illnesses. He has always been very underweight. He weighs 241/2 lbs. He has some fat on him but very little I can see his ribs when he lifts his arms. He has a good enough appetite but doesn't seem to get fat. I have another child who is 3 months old a girl my children are 22mo apart. I am breast feeding my baby she i quite chubby. My son is blond with brown eyes. I'm worried about his ear infection because he has had other ear pain two other times with in the last six months I have treated this with similison drops and tylenol for pain. I am worried that he might have ear damage from. frequent infections. I understand that antibiotics are not useful in treating these kinds of infections- I wonder If I should be doing anything at all? as I said before he has not complained of ear pain yet but is abit congested. and has been sick for the past week due to a "virus" . he seems to have recovered yet is still cranky and clingy yet aggressive at times. not his norm he is usually independent and "into everything" very curious child and affectionate. I know other parents who have given their children antibiotics for these silent eaer infections. I wonder what the hopeopathic approach is?

Thank you,
Sarah

consider using pulsatilla or chamomilla.
it could be that the ear infection made your child vomit and get a fever.
look at the indications for these remedies and choose the most suitable - if neither seem to suit then come back for further advice.

I think the chamomilla apllies more except that his stools are not green but chalky cafe ole color. what dose and frequency should be used? and how dose one get a tw year old to disolve something under the tongue?

thank you,
sarah

initially just give one dose - if it helps but the effect wears off and another dose is needed then repeat the dose. this can be repeated again if needed - but do not repeat if the remedy has not helped.
you can crush the pillule or tablet between two clean metal teaspoons and then place the crushed remedy under or on the tongue - this should then dissolve very quickly.

I strongly recommend that you find a NAET practitioner. You can type in NAET in your search engine and it will give you the web site. NAET stands for Nambudripad's Allergy Elimination Technique. Your child may be having food allergies that are causing these symptoms. About the ears: There is a chiropractic technique of adjusting the tubes so that they drain properly and eliminates the infections. It is simple and non invasive. Not all chiropractors know it so you will have to shop around. Dr. Chris Moore in Plano, Tx. did it to my son and he never had another infection. Another option for you is to contact this Homeopathic Doctor. Dr. Allen Saxon (419) 474-7440. He does phone consultation and will mail the meds that you need. I hear he is phenominal. Most importantly, find a NAET practitioner that has completed at least Advanced II training and get checked for the food allergies.

thanks for your suggestion- I will keep it in mind I never even considered food allergies- I will do a bit more fact finding on that.

as far as the more immediate situation- I couldn't find any chamomilla at the first place I went to so out of espiration I bought the "hylands earache tablets" which has puls, cham, sul, calc belladona, lycopodium. I gave him the recommended four tablets. He seemed to be more calm, happier for the rest of the night. I'm becoming distrought myself over this- who knew motherhood would be this hard? thank goodness for the internet. are there any remedies for anxious mothers?

cheers, Sarah

well - these hylands remedies certainly cover all possibilities!!! As long as they are helping though that is the main thing!!! I hope things are still improving? - otherwise pls let us know and we can help further.
If you find chamomilla then a 6c, 12c or 30c potency will be ok.
anxious mothers???? well, that's a biggie!!! Joking aside, I always found rescue remedy (bach flower) the most helpful for mums, dads and babes stressed out!

Be sure and take a good B-complex vitamin supplement. B vitamins have a calming affect on the nervous system. Natures Sunshine has two excellent ones. Their "Nutri-Calm" is a stress formula full of B vitamins and pantothenic acid. Their "Vitamin B12 Complete" is what I take and it is an energy formula because it has a lot of extra B12 and it is a liquid form that you put under the tongue. Calms and boosts energy levels. You can find it at Natures Sunshine dot com. Some health food stores carry N.S. also. I totally agree with Erika about Bach flowers. They are wonderful. You also could have your estrogen levels checked. Chances are they are still a little high. If they are then some natural Progesterone cream would do absolute wonders for you. Mine stayed too high for about 4 months after my daughter was born. I didn't know any better then. Our estrogen levels go way up while we're pregnant and take a while to come down. Some don't normalize for a year or more. Progesterone will balance you and you'll feel like a different person. Stops night sweats too. By the way, if your Dr. tries to give you a prescription progesterone (synthetic), think twice about using it. I strongly recommend natural progesterone. It's not made from horse urine like the Rx stuff and it is safe, whereas the Rx stuff is not.

Sarah-

This is not homeoptahic advice, I am one of the least experienced here. Just wanted to say... try to give yourself a break. If you try too hard to be a perfect mom your kids will miss out on you bc you will be too stressed out.

Its a trade off. I know moms who are a lot worse moms than I am, with all their bottle feeding and spanking and vaccinating and whatever but they are alot better moms than I am bc they're kids get to be with somebody who is relaxed and present and can tolerate imperfection in them bc she can tolerate it in herself.

You just sound so much like me 2 kids ago I had to say something.
:-).

well thank you for your advice- it was well received.

The hylands did seem to help my little one. He is slowly returning to his old self. this has been my first foray nto homeopathy. I am trained as a nurse and have grown up in the allopathic medine doctrine. The more people i care for as a nurse- the more I see that western medicine really is missing the boat in many areas. I think allopathic has it's place- I'm starting to think homeopathy has it's place too. I read the book "Nourishing Traditions" a year ago- it has changed the way I view "health" and made me realize that most of my patients are suffering from life long nutritional deficiencies that have begun manefesting as disease. When I look at how my diet and my son's diet have been I can see that they have suffered since the baby came- I haven't been cooking- we've been eating out or eating frozen stuff and i sent my son to daycare so I could have time for the baby so much has changed in the last six months no wonder he has been sick. I will be observing him and his diet more closely and sending his food to school- no more processed schol food. thank you for your supportive words- it has done wonders for my spirit.

This is a case to be first seen by an ear specialist.

You are very right that both allopathy and homeopathy are effective but we should keep the practical limitations of both in mind. What we want is the best for our system.

You have mentioned that there is a bulge of the ear drum. Obviously it is due to pressure of the pus building up in the inner ear due to infection which if delayed will make a hole in the drum to drain out. The delay also slowly(over a long period) damages the tiny bony linkages that convey the vibration of the sound in the inner ear. The situation in the ear could be responsible for the child's behaviour which could be handled by chamomilla etc. for the time being being but not on permanent basis. I know of similar cases leading to hearing problems when taken lightly in due course. This is my humble advice to the guardian.

After the ear specialist has seen and explained the situation you may come to homeopathy if it is within its scope and can be handled safely.
