Dr. Maheeru Please Help - Macular Degeneration
I am 85 years old lady, had diabetes for many years. Had cataract more than 1 year ago. Eye surgeon removed cataract and placed artificial lenses in both eyes. About 1 year after cataract, left eye started to see comic faces and wavy lines on TV. Was diagnosed with macular degeneration in both eyes, but is very bad in left eye. (Vision had been 20/20 in both eyes just after the lenses were placed after cataract). Surgeon gave 4 injecstions in the eye to improve vision. Comic faces are now replaced by normal looking faces but partially hidden by dark patches. Please help. Surgeon in planning to give more injections next week. Can I take homeopathy? Thank you. She is asking whether she can take it now given that she took the injection of Lucentis in her eye (the protein made by Novartis - which prohibits TEGF in macular degeneration). She just wants to make sure that there is no interaction or complication.

85 yrs, Female, 5 feet tall, dont know weight, not obese, not too thin.
retired teacher. Had 4 children, normal delivery.
2) Explain in details the chief complaints?:
Macular degeneratio of left eye (wavylines in vision) a few months after cataract surgery with artificial lens implanted in both eyes. Both eyes have Macular Degeneration, but less severe in right eye.
Diabetes for approximately 35 years.
Separately have had trouble with swallowing food -sensation like choking problem
3) What is the duration of illness?
Cataract was about 2.5 years ago, artificial lens was implanted soon after.
Macular Degeneration diagnosed due to wavy lines vision in left eye about 8 months after the cataract surgery/lens implant
The oesaphagus- swallowing problem has been since 45 age. Endoscopy was done at least 3 times since age 45. Has been taking tablets: pentacid and xymex.
4) If you have Thyroid functioning complications, please explain?
Not diagnosed with thyroid problems
5) If you have blood sugar, do mention the clinical details? Diabetes, taking medication Gluformin and Diaonil
6) Do you have digestion problem? Explain in details.
Swallowing problem,
She takes isapgol fibre every night for smooth bowel movements. If she doesnt take isapgol, then she does not get bowel movements for many day in a row.
7) Do you face any problem in bowl movement? Any constipation symptoms?
Yes for many days, if she does not eat isapgol.
8) Do you feel thirsty? How many glasses of water you drink every day?
Throat gets dry at night - most likley because of isapgol. She drinks 2 glasses with isapgol, and then again at night when throat is dry. Passes urine 2-3 times a night probably as she consumes a lot of water for the isapgol.
9) Do you feel good in warm or cold or humid climate? Which climate aggravates your problem?
Dont like warm or humid. It is very hot where she lives. Keeps fan on to keep cool.
She would prefer cool
10) Do you have any stress? Explain in details.
Is worried about her old age and it frightens her.
11) Do you get normal sound sleep?
Yes. She keeps head slightly raised during sleep to prevent food from coming back.
12) Explain in detail about your mood?
Doesn't feel much angry o r sad, but is afraid of making mistakes, somewhat nervous. Memory loss - cannot remember names, she feels that she also doesnt remember dates.
13) Any problem with you periods? (For females)
Meopause at age 45.
- Are the periods early, regular or late in general? How long do they last?
when she had periods may years ago - they were not painful.
- Do you suffer from any kind of physical or mental discomfort before, during or after the periods?
- Is the flow scanty, normal or excessive?

Her mother had diabetes.
When her mother had cataract surgery, it was followed by conjunctivitis and she lost her left eye within 24 hours of conjunctivitis.

Medicine for diabetes: diaonil, gluformin, xymex
zymar and iotim eye drops - antibiotics taken after Lucentis injection which has been given 5 times in the past year to help improve vision in left eye regarding macular degeneration.
16) Do you exercise daily? Or any other physical activity.

likes sweet things.
recently - not much apetite. Would like to avoid dinner, but takes as she is on diabetes medicine and does not want to get hypoglycemic. Has had hypoglycemia three times in the past seven years

Before starting the homeopathy she had visited the eye doctor who had given her injection of Lucentis - which had shown not much improvement - she is still seeing black patches (blindness?) which had replaced the wavy lines from macular degeneration. So I think her macula had become worse even before she started homeopathy Phosphorus 6C. Please advise. I am told that the black patches may be from the growing blood vessels (caused from mac-d) that leak, and the blood blocks the line of vision. Would she need something like Arnica - perhaps - to heal?

Her vision for left eye - had become peripheral, she can see only borders or edges objects - as the patches are in the center of the vision - she is unable to see the objects. If she moves her head sideways, it is like 'scanning' view to see the entire object. so we either have to move the object to the side of her eye, or she has to move her neck sideways to scan the rest of the object.

I saw a previous thread for another patient called 'Wet Macular Degeneration', where they had used Arnica, and it helped. Not sure if it would also be relevant here, asking for your thoughts - Please advise. Thank you once again!

given that the wavy lines vision issue had stopped due to previous injection of Lucentis and the current issue was of dark patches blocking central vision, the eye doctor had said to me that the dark patches were caused by the new blood vessels that are leaking blood in the eye, this blood blocks the vision to retina and that is causing the blindness. Although Lucentis is expected to prevent further growth of blood vessels temporarily(as it supposedly inhibits TEGF which is a growth factor for blood vessel abnoral growth), the fact that we did not see improvement from the last injection (the only improvement we saw on the eye report was a reduction in swelling / thickness of the macula) - I believe is probably because the blood is still blocking the line of vision to the retina, would it help to heal the area? according to the Lucetis website, abnormal blood vessels are growing and creating cracks in the Macula - and can lead to permanent scarring - I hope she has not got to this stage. Please rescue her Dr Maheeru.

Her eyes have undergone repeated intrusive treatment for over a year, as it started with cataract surgery, followed by lens implants and five injections of Lucentis. That in itself I believe is trauma to the eye.

At emotional level - she used to talk with people and attend weddings, get togethers and used to enjoy social interactions. However, now she believes that all her relatives are not good anymore, and even with her brother's wife (who used to be her friend) they are not on talking terms. She does not go out much, is mostly at home. Has a helper at home who takes care of her, and a few close family members visit/stay regularly recently. She used to be a commanding business owner in her youth. Quite decisive, has attention to detail, speaks up if something is missing - such as in a recipe. Is generally not afraid to point out mistakes of others. The day of her injection, rested after the injection for about 2 hours at the clinic, and then on the way home in the taxi, kept pointing out that the taxi driver has to take a 'U turn'. Overall, I find her to be of sharp mind, although lately she says she forgets several things, as well as forgets old memories and people names etc.

she had malaria a few years ago, during which she believes that she spoke in delirium when her relatives were visiting. she thinks that they were offended due to her speaking in . she believes that she had done a lot of favors for the relatives and had been good to the, but that they have deserted her now that she is old.

personality is somewhat restless. even when younger. always thinking of the next thing that needs to be done. generally would sit quietly for a few minutes, and then will call the helper/maid several times in the day, as if she does not want to be alone, or that she wants to make sure the helper/maid is working all the time.
