How to determine correct dosage in homeopathy

I was taking Arsenicum Album 30C, 3 pills a day for anxiety. I took it for 6 days. After the 2nd day, I noticed a definite aggravation in my symptoms, I was more anxious than ever before and became depressed as well. After day 6 I talked to my doctor and she asked me to stop taking it until my symptoms calm down. It's been a week now, the symptoms have calmed down and I'm wondering if I should go back on the meds, this time taking only one pill a day instead of 3. My doctor said to try it and keep an eye on my symptoms. Will such a small dose have an effect on my symptoms? Please help me understand how to find the right dosage.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
It is not that easy. Potency and dosing are a section
of learning homeopathy called 'posology'. Hardly
anyone agrees on methods ( the trained homeopaths)

One drop of a remedy if it is right can have a huge effect
on your state.

Everyones system is different and reacts different to medicines.

The general rule is take a remedy, when it has action,
good or bad, then Wait. The remedy is acting.

If things have calmed down and you are not anxious there is
no need to go back on it. Go back on it when you start
to have more anxiety and take the remedy, watch if it calms
you and then stop taking it and wait again. The periods of
taking it should get longer and longer apart.

Thanks for your reply Simone. When I said things had calmed down, I meant the aggravated symptoms caused by the first dosages had gone away. I still have the same amount of anxiety that I do on a daily basis. So should I take a smaller dose everyday until I have a reaction, good or bad and then stop again?

Simone, could you also explain a little about how have a bad reaction to a medication is a good thing? I get a little freaked out when that happens and feel like not taking the medication again. But from reading about homeopathy, a bad action does not mean the medication isn't working. Why is it aggravating my symptoms then and if it does that each time I take it, how will I get better?

Hi.

You do not necessarily have to undergo an aggravation.
People who are sensitive often take a wet dose of a remedy
which is liquid or pills mixed dissolved in some water,
and or a split dose of a remedy which is make it up in
water and then take a spoon of that and put it in another
glass of water and take the dose out of that glass. It makes
it more gentle on you.

Your doctor is trying to see what the right remedy is for you.

If you took the 30c and then aggravated, then what you
would want is to feel now mentally better after that
aggravation. If you went right back to how it was, then
it means the remedy is not right, and or the dose of
it is not right. The goal is curing you. If you have to take
a dose of it everyday and without it anxiety is still there?

That is called palliation, not cure. ( It was aggravating your
symptoms bc it was taken too many times)

Try taking it again, one dose. Then keep note of what goes on.
Even the tiniest things. You may need a 200c dose if
you find that you are getting any little benefits from the 30c
dose. But I would only do the experiment for one day,
one dose. It is a trial and error thing, and this is how
you find out what is next, from trying things out.

I took one pill, 30C, this morning, so far no reaction. If nothing happens, should I take one more pill tomorrow?

Try it out. Keep notes. It seems like it is not the right potency.

simone717 last decade
Do you think the potency should be higher or lower?

thanksall last decade
I would go to 200c, put two drops in an ounce of water, dissolve or
2 pellets and then wait for a week.

simone717 last decade
Does it have to be dissolved in water? I don't have drops, I have the pellets. What if I take 7 or 8 of my 30c pellets at the same time and then wait for a week?

thanksall last decade
No-

the potency is the potency, and basically works the same
if you take 1 pellet in a dose, 4 pellets in a dose, 8 pellets in
a dose. I have never seen two homeopaths do it the same
way with pellet and drop amounts.

What you would do with 30c is do what you did earlier
take 3 separate doses during the day and next day-
and you already did that - it aggravates and you are
then back to square one according to you with your
same symptoms.

So either the potency is not right, or the remedy is
not the right one for you. If you tried the 200c and
had a reaction then felt better overall and the effect
stayed with you for even a day or so, then you would
know that the remedy is right, the potency has to be
adjusted or taken once every 10 days or go higher
to 1M.

I know that your homeopath is away right now.

Since you are over the aggravation and a pill of
the Ars Alb is not doing anything for your problem,
you really have to wait till the homeopath comes back.

The homeopath has taken your case. Your information
on particulars is not on this forum and you always
have to follow one prescriber. If you feel that you
are not getting anywhere with your homeopath you
can always put your case on here- but it is not a good
idea to start changing what the homeopath said to do-
or up your potency, etc bc I am giving you general
scenarios of how this works.

simone717 last decade
I will have to get the 200C potency and try it. I'm a little nervous because of the way my body reacted when it was only 30C.

The correct thing to do is ask your homeopath about
trying it-bc as I said, the homeopath has taken
your case and has all your information.

simone717 last decade
Arsenicum is not the right remedy in her case. Anxiety state is covered by a lot of remedies. If this was prescribed by her homeopath, it was a wrong one.

Zady101 last decade
I suspected that is the case, but did not want to get
in between her and her homeopath, who might want to
come to the conclusion on her own.
