Infection after surgery

My husband had surgery on his big right toe. He had an ingrown toenail which was completely removed and the growth plate cut back. The surgery was done almost 2 1/2 weeks ago on Friday. The toe was healing OK last Monday, but the doc wanted to keep the stitches in. My husband being a carpenter and feeling OK went back to work this past week. Today when he went in to the doc to have stitches removed they were quite concerned because of redness and swelling of toe. Also, there is a small hole (probably from the suture) that is open to the bone. He is on an antibiotic, doing epsom salt soaks and putting antibiotic cream in that hole. I have been giving him Hepar Sulph today and wonder if there is something else I should give him instead. Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Hessy,

Is the pus already formed in the wound? is it draining?
Or is there just inflammation and redness? Is the toe hot to touch?

The hole had a little pus pocket in it last week, but that is gone. There is only clear drainage now with inflammation and redness. Thanks for the help. If I am able to find pyrogenium and echinacea locally should I give the 2 remedies at the same time 4 times a day? If I can only get one of them locally and quickly is it OK to only give one? Thank you so much.

You might remind your husband not to use a closed shoe to enable the wound to dry up quickly.

I would also recommend that my favourite remedy Arnica 30c is used, twice daily with one dose taken last thing at night as it will help the wound to fill up.

I had been giving him Arnica from the start, but have not given to him lately. I will start back up tonight when he gets home. The open toe is a good idea, too, except when at work. He is a carpenter and just the thought of a hammer falling on that toe makes us feel faint.

Do you think that if I were to give him a remedy that it will keep the antibiotic from working?...or vice versa? I hate to go half-hearted either way or have one nullify the other. We need this to heal up quickly and put it behind us. Since he is self-employed and I don't work(ha) he needs to be working. Thank you so very much.

I have personal experience that Antibiotics which I took after 30 years during and after my Prostatectomy in 2002 did not antidote the Arnica 30 that I used exclusively after my surgery in place of the Morphine that was dangling from the IV which I ordered removed. I have not used any drugs ever since that time.

You should give him the Arnica 30c twice daily and advise him to use an open shoe as the reason for his wound renewing itself was due to his using a closed shoe.

The Arnica is best taken in the wet dose made up as follows:

Get a 500ml bottle of spring water
Pour out 100ml or about an inch of water to ensure some air space on top.
Put in 3 globules Arnica 30c or 1 drop if you have the liquid remedy.
Hit the bottle hard on your palm or a cushion and watch for the water to fizzle like when you open a bottls of soda.
Sip a teaspoonful twice daily with the last dose taken just before sleep. You will discover that you will sleep very deeply after the Arnica.

I have used it daily for 10 years and would recommend that you and your husband also do likewise. It seems to act as a tonic on the body.
