Itchy Dog

5 mo old lab mix, adopted from a groomer where the puppy had been dumped off with her sister. The groomer had my puppy vaccinated with a combo puppy vaccine at around 8 weeks of age. Since I have had the pup, she has become increasingly itchy and lost fur. A mange scraping was inconclusive, but family members not affected with any itch.

-- itching all over, but scratches legs and chews feet a lot
-- started about 10 weeks of age
-- small dry bumps on skin, come and go
-- fur loss from back legs mostly and side of back abdomen
-- worse upon waking
-- better with heat. she'll sit right in front of a heater
-- no unusual fears
-- was given steroid injection by the 'holistic' vet who did the mange scraping, it did stop the itching, but I will not leave her on that
-- Bad odor from skin, cheesy, bad breath
-- Homeopathic remedies tried:
thuja 30C
mezereum
rhus tox
calc carb
all these helped but no cure
sulphur seemed to aggravate badly

No other symptoms. She eats well, home cooked food and plays normally.

Thanks for any advice!

Thank you for the response, Kadwa. How many doses should I give?

twice a day for 3 days.

Hello:
After three days of arsenicum, not much change in itching. Upon giving a dose, she seemed very itchy for a few minutes then settled down. The itching is still intermittent, with bouts of intense scratching, especially upon waking and just before going to sleep.

She does not scratch while riding in a car.

The body odor is less, but the bad breath about the same.

Please give her three doses of Stramonium 30 at a gap of 12 hours and see how that affects over 10 days. Only 3 doses in 10 days.

kadwa,
I have not been able to obtain the stramonium yet. Lena is about the same, intermittent bouts of intense scratching and chewing of feet. The body odor has come back. Loves to sit directly (within 2-4 inches) of a space heater. Will try new remedy when I can get it. Thank you.

kadwa, stramonium is not available at my local store, so will have to order. But I have a question. Do you think vaccinosis could be the basis of her problems? And, if so, what would you recommend?

For dosing of remedies, do you mean the dry pellets or in water?

Thank you so much for your time!

What was going on before this problem (diet change, vaccine etc)

What is the general nature of the puppy

fitness last decade
I got the puppy when she was about 10 weeks old, the fur was already thin when I got her and itching and bad odor got worse. She was vaccinated (combo distemper, parvo, adenovirus, influenza, and single vaccine for corona virus) at about age 8 weeks by the person who had rescued her. She seemed to improve the most with calc carb and rhus tox. Her general nature is very happy and friendly with people and other animals.

Please give two doses of Hep-Sulf 200c, 12 hrs apart and report back.

fitness last decade
Is that pellets or in water?

listensister last decade
One dose is made by dissolving one pill of the remedy (or one drop, if you have liquid remedy) in half a glass of water. Stir it and take one tea spoon from it.

fitness last decade
Thank you. I will have to order it. So it is hep-sulf calc?

listensister last decade
Yes.
