Have tried to reply with as much detail as possible. Hope that helps.

Sex:Female Age:36 Nature of work: freelance trainer and teacher. Married but no kids. Chose not to have kids.

1. Describe your main suffering? State the correct location.
Ans: Chronic cold. Last two months it has been going on. Every time I recover from cold, within a few weeks again it comes back. This then follows through with cough, before it is fully cured, the next round starts.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
Ans: Other than cold and cough, generally am physically fit. However, very high perspiration during summers. Tendency for constipation. More than average hair-fall and dandruff leading to thinning of hair. An eczema on the right thumb which becomes normal sometimes and itches at other times. Sometimes bloating and gastric problems on eating spicy food.

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?
Ans: I keep thinking about this cold and cough and then tend to feel more uncomfortable. Fear of future. Used to have panic attacks when I was alone at home. This had come up quite suddenly last November, however has now subsided.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst? Describe the sensation in your own words.
Ans: Feel very irritated with life. Tendency to day dream to escape reality during times. Feel unhappy with current situations and brood on what I could not achieve in life.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
Ans: This has been a series of dis-ease which started in last November 2013 with onset of cough and viral fever. On the day of the onset of viral fever, due to panic attack (was alone at home that day) I also had extremely high pulse and heart rate touched 140, hence had to be put on medication for tachycardia and panic attack. While the ‘cordarone’ was slowly stopped after my heart resumed normal rates in about 3 weeks, the half tablet of ‘.25 gm etizola’ for panic attack continued till jan 04, 2014, which then I consciously stopped. The next few days I did have uneasiness and felt like having panic attack, however with the help of meditation and affirmations was able to overcome that. My fever and cold and cough had subsided by the first week of December. In December 2nd week, we had to travel by train and due to cold weather around that time, I again gold cold and cough. Had gone to visit my in-laws. I also had developed constipation after reaching the in-laws’ city. Had fever due to continued constipation of four days. In-laws forced me to go to an allopathic doctor and have medicines. However, the constipation got cured after have ‘isabgul’ and fever subsided. The cold and cough continued. After reaching back to my hometown in December last week, I was feeling comparatively better but had to travel out of town again within three days due to an exam. Again felt the cough come back, however, this time I noticed that the cough tasted sour. After a few days I had also given up ‘etizola’. The subsequent days the cough with the sour taste continued and it used to be worse during night and I just couldn’t sleep during night. Went to an ENT soecialist, who mentioned that it might be because of ‘acid reflux’ and gave me medicines which I continued for around 10 days. A friend then suggested that I have Bio-chemic Nat Phos 6X, for a month (4 tablets thrice a day for the first two week and then four tablets twice a day). I gave up the allopathy medicines and continued with Nat Phos 6X for a month. The cough completely subsided and the acidity too. In the mid-Feb again I had cold and feverishness. Again after the suggestion from the friend I had another bio-chemic medicine Ferrum phos 6X, (four tablets thrice a day for two days and then twice for the next five days). After this the cold and cough too subsided. While a little cough was there, it continued to improve on its own. I continued to remain well for the next two weeks. We went for a weekend trip in mid-march, the trip was hectic and everything went very well. After reaching back home, the day after, I had a running nose and the cold was back which in the next two days gave a sore throat. Again I took Ferrum Phos, condition improved and my cough was almost over, when last week again I experienced running nose. And now the cold is back with mildly sore throat and little cough. It’s a cycle of have running watery nose, then after sometime half an hour or so, it fills the nose as slightly thick light greeninsh yellow phelgm. After blowing out my nose, feel some respite for sometime. The cough comes once in a while and need to clear my throat often around once in 15 minutes. The phlegm that comes out is white and loose.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?
Ans: Afternoons

7. What are the things that aggravate your suffering and those that ameliorate the same? Example: time, temperature, pressure, rubbing, washing, eating, tight clothing etc.
Ans: After blowing my nose I feel that I have a respite for around half an hour or so.
Wearing lose clothes makes me feel comfortable. While I feel like having cold drinks, having them seems to make it worse. It is worse indoors, be it home or workplace.
Feels good after having a warm water bath and hot cup of tea/ soup. Too hot or cold temperatures both make it worse. While eating I feel better.

8. Do you think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?
Ans: Not sure about external changes since I had this in my city, when I went out and when I came back. Also this started when I was not working last year and have been working as a part time teacher for the last three months and it continues.
Biological changes: again not sure, since my menstruation cycle has been normal and happens exactly on time, though over a period of the last few years (approx. 2 years or so) the flow has reduced in quantity and hence instead of 3.5 days earlier it has now come down to around 2 days.

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?
Ans: Dry but neither too hot nor cold.
10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.
Ans: moody, used to get angry easily now it has reduced due to meditation, open to new experiences, love to travel specially to hilly or forest regions, introverted by nature however like to interact with people with whom I am comfortable. Extremely impatient.
I get easily offended, however do not express it in front of others but tend to bottle it up. I also like to keep others happy even if it means sacrificing my own happiness, then resent that. Am used to working hard and extremely focussed on meeting commitments made. I however do not commit until I feel that I can keep it.
- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm?
Ans: A general sense of hope and excitement for the expected showers
- Do you like being consoled during your tough times?
Ans: No, prefer people to be around but leave me to myself
- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc?
Ans: Yes
- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless Weeping, talking to one self etc?
Ans: have tendency to create mental drama about things which may happen or did not happen, usually negative incidents or feelings and also cry during such times
- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife?
Ans: My father died after ill-health in 2012, have a feeling of guilt for not being able to take good care of him, have a brother who is mild-mentally retarded and lives with me and my husband. Earlier I used to internally blame him for not being able to explore life to the fullest, but now have experienced multiple incidents which make me feel that he is a blessing in our lives. However, sometimes get impatient with him angry at his slow speed of doing things. I basically love my husband but feel angry with him that he did not take good care of my father and also my sisters in law to interfere in our life’s decisions. With in-laws generally cordial relations but am not close to them and dislike staying with them for long periods. Had bad experiences in the past of them causing fights between me and my husband.

11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly?
Ans: I have fear of my husband dumping me and having to lead life on my own, In the last few months have also developed the fear of this tendency to catch cold being symptom of something really big and hence tend to worry too much about it, which I feel tends to aggravate it. Also have fear of failure to meet the expectations of others around me.

12. What do you crave in food items and what are your aversions?
Ans: I love oily, spicy and crunchy food. Sometimes I crave to have chips and pickles, however generally I cannot take more than certain amount of salt in food. I do not have a sweet thooth, however do not mind having choclates and a few selective variety of sweet at times. In fact I love chocolate with ‘rice flakes or nuts’.
Aversions: plain food without spice, syrupi sweets like rasgulla/ jamun etc. , porridge, food which does not have ‘colour’ or does not ‘look good’. Used to dislike fruits most of them except apples and watermelons, however have started having them and liking a few like banana, orange and mangoes.

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive?
And: less however I consciously try to have around 2 lt per day.

14. How is your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive?
Ans: Normal, but tendency to eat more when I am worrying or doing mental work.

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?
Ans: Every time I have brinjal I have itching in my eczema on the right thumb and it worsens.

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs?
Ans: More especially in the face and neck

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type?
Ans: tendency for gas and constipation, but with conscious regular intake of water it has come down

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?
Ans: Find it generally difficult to fall asleep (these days use meditation), however once asleep it is deep. Ten years back, I could sleep only when lying on my back, now since the last 3 years I cannot sleep like that. I now prefer to sleep on my stomach with my face on the left side.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general?
Ans: Yes.

20. Do you have any strange, peculiar or unusual symptom or feelings? How are you different from others?
Ans: I have faced multiple challenges in life and overcome them, and continue to do so. I have changed multiple professions while started as PR executive, got into teaching, became a consultant and now am a NLP coach. Nevertheless, I have a fear of being alone in the dark. I cannot sleep alone.

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?
Ans. Have mentioned above in detail.

22. What major diseases are running in your family?
Ans. Mom died of uterus tumor. dad had hypertension more than 15 years and passed away after a calcium, sodium-potassium imbalance.

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance.
Ans: Small size, slightly plump around the hips and thighs, simple face with a pleasant smile and thin hair.
(For Females)

24. If your menstrual cycles are not normal, please describe the irregularities, like pains, moods, flow type, clots etc.
Ans: Have been into yoga since childhood so never had any pain, however slight moodiness is there just on the first day. Nevertheless can continue to work as usual, sometimes if required stretch too during the MC. My menstruation cycle has been normal and happens exactly on time, though over a period of the last few years (approx. 2 years or so) the flow has reduced in quantity and hence instead of 3.5 days earlier it has now come down to around 1.5 to 2 days.

25. What major diseases have you had in your life and when. Please write them in a chronological manner.
Ans: As an infant am told that I used to have convulsions which disappeared as I was growing up around the age of 3 years.
Had chicken pox when I was 11 years old.
Had asthma at the around the age of 16, which was cured by taking homeopathic medicines.
Tendency for cold and cough has always been there, tend to have thrice a year at every weather change, winter, rainy season and summers.
Had and still have low haemoglobin around 10.5 to 11. In between the age of 18-24 had tendency of low BP, now normal.
Last November during the viral fever mentioned above had been detected with ‘tachycardia’ due to panic attack which was cured.

Why did you decide not to have children? Did you think this would affect your career or was it some health related issue?

Why do you think your hubby will dump you?

You said you feel better after eating. Can you tell me what sufferings get relieved after eating?

Your flow has got relatively scanty in the last 2 years. Can you recall, what has been happening in your life in these years that may have had its effect on your periods? Has there been any change in your mental make-up in these years?

Do you think your other problems have surfaced after your periods have started getting scanty?

Why do you switch jobs so often? Is it purely for career enhancement or do you have issues with colleagues/male bosses in general?

Guess you are financially independent, you don't have any children...then why do you fear to live alone?

Do you have solid reasons to believe your husband could have done better to avoid your in-laws' intervention in your household?

Can you tell me at what age your mother started having menopausal symptoms? Have you ever though of going for an ultrasound of your uterus or meeting a gynecologist to ascertain the reason for sudden reduction in the flow?

rishimba last decade
Not having kids was a conscious mutual decision by me and my husband. It has nothing to do with health or career.
As far as my fear of my hubby dumping me, it was a past-life regression issue, which thankfully I have been able to resolve. He is an extremely loving and caring person.

Eating impacts nothing else.Maybe once in a while a feel good thing.

As far as the mensus flow is concerned, no I have not gone to any doctor since it was not sudden. It has been fairly stable and very slowly over the last 2-2.5 years it has reduced. Mom's menopause I do not remember but I think it was somewhere in her mid-40s.
No, I do not think my cold and cough have anything to do with the periods.

Switching jobs was purely a normal conscious movement from one role to another and as of now I continue to do multiple things as a free-lancer.

As far as fear of living alone is concerned, many of us may not really know why they are afraid of something, is it not? Just to be precise here my fear of being alone is only when it is night and dark.

BTW, just a query, do all these questions have a bearing on cold and cough and homeopathic medicine?

Nainananjoy last decade
In homeopathy,a physician tries to pick out of peculiarities of the patient's mental and physical symptoms and matches with the remedies. The remedy that matches the person most works best on the person. So, please understand the answers to these questions are crucial in remedy selection.

Your remedy seems to be SEPIA OFFICINALIS.

Please take this remedy in 200C potency some 3 to 5 doses maximum, each dose every 6 hours apart. If you see a response in you for better or worse after a couple of doses, don't take the rest.

Please come back after 10 days and share what changes you have observed in yourself and your symptoms.

Thank you so much for the prompt response.
will definately go through this and get back to you.

SEPIA is homeopathy's wise and independent but much stressed woman.

I guess you should make this remedy your lifelong friend and keep it handy at home.

rishimba last decade
Thank u Dr. rishimba for your help and support. I have taken two doses and am feeling much better already. So, according to ur suggestions I should discontinue the rest of the dose, right?

Also, u mentioned that I should keep this medicine handy, so just wanted to check in which all conditions can I take this? Should the potency be 200 only?.

Nainananjoy last decade
Look up materia medica of SEPIA and you will find the ailments it covers most.

I guess 200C will suffice for most ailments unless its a skin outbreak in which you have to take lower potencies.

Now, that the remedy has created a response in you, stop the rest of the doses. Your vital forces will take care of you.

rishimba last decade
Dear Dr. Rishimba,
Thank you so much for you support.
Today is the 9th day after taking the Sepia 200c.
Wanted to update you on the status.

1. the cold and cough had come again after the second dose on last Tuesday, however, it subsided on its own within the next 24 hrs and had been away since then. today afternoon, i had a small bottle of cold drink, since it was pretty hot outside, and since then I can feel some loose cough in my throat, is it coming on again...? Is it that i will never be able to have any cold drinks or icecreams..?

2. My constipation is gone and miraculously my drandruff too is gone completely. the eczema on my right thumb has healed to a great extent, the only thing that remains now is a rough patch of dry skin.

3. yesterday and day before yesterday, I felt panic attack like palpitations again, it started with noticing a slightly high pulse rate on waking up after the afternoon nap. Both days it came on suddenly between 3 pm to 5 pm. I was alone at home at that time, the higher pulse brought back the memories of panic attack and I could feel the palpitation like thing. Thankfully through meditation and prayers I could overcome it. Nevertheless, is there a way to overcome it completely..? Today afternoon I stayed out of home for the fear of that, everything was fine.

4. Also, today my menstrual cycle started. though it started on time, however, the quantity is too low for the first day. In fact its just been a few drops since morning. I am feeling a little concerned!! Does it have anything to do with the Sepia?

Nainananjoy last decade
You are going through the phase of healing. In homeopathy, it is said that symptoms get healed in a particular sequence. Look up Hering's Law in homeopathy and you will know what I mean.

You will be able to have cold drinks and ice-creams when you are completely cured.

These panic attacks also will subside gradually. Homeopathy brings out the 'Natural' by activating the vital forces, so don't worry about your periods. Its possible that during this healing crisis you may be having some hormonal shifts but eventually everything is going to come in sync.

Take a monthly dose of SEPIA 200C for some months if you feel all your ailments are not cured.

After a few months, based on your condition, you can contact me. We will decide if you would need to raise the potency, continue in the same potency or stop taking further dose.

rishimba last decade
Thank you so much for your reply. Did do a lot of morale boosting. Also, another update, in the lines that you mentioned.

Yesterday, by night the cough totally disappeared on its own. The menstrual flow, though less, is now going on smoothly.

After reading your reply, am feeling much better. Will take then take the next dose, in another 3 weeks from now?

Will surely keep you posted.

Thank you Evocationer!

Nainanjoy was very good in giving her case and I guess she did most of the work by being so accurate and descriptive. I had to just read between the lines to get to know her personality.

Sepia did the rest!

rishimba last decade
Dear Dr. Rishimba
I wanted to inform you about the latest development.
As suggested by you I took the second dose of Sepia 200 in the beginning of the month. The day I took it, after around a few hours I had slight giddiness, which lasted a few minutes. This had happened the first time too, and I thought it might be part of the 'healing'. Things have been pretty fine since then.
1. My dandruff is completely gone. the hairfall also has reduced totally.
2. My menstruation cycle has improved and this time it was 2.5 days.
3.Cold and cough have disappeared completely and body's resistance seems to have improved. I even had icecream a few weeks back and am completely fine.

The only point of concern came last night. My husband has gone out of town yesterday and yesterday night I again had a panic attack like situation. I could feel the pulse and other symptoms increasing and felt really horrible. Though with the help of meditation and such things I was able to spend the night, but it did impact my sleep. Also, before this, i.e. since Saturday night my sleep had been disturbed, due to the hot summer nights. However, My husband has been travelling regularly for the last one month and I did not have any panic attack at that time. So, do you think it could be related?

Now, my request and question to you is two fold.

1. How do I deal with the panic attack?, tonite too my husband is going to be out of town, do you think it is related. As you mentioned last time, is this a part of the 'healing'? Most importantly I would want to be free from these. Is there any medicine I can take to deal with the situation, when it happens?

2. Should I continue my dose of Sepia 200 as is?

Nainananjoy 9 years ago
Did you have such panic attacks of the same nature earlier? If yes, how often? What triggered them or what circumstances prevailed when you went through those attacks?

We will not jump to any other remedy now. If we find the root cause of these panic attacks, it will help to cure it.

Tell me, what other symptoms do you presently have that have not been reduced by SEPIA?

rishimba 9 years ago
Dear Dr. Rishimba

The tendency for anxiety, I guess, has always been there; however, i first experienced panic attack, last November when I had fever and was alone at home. At that time too, I had a few days of disturbed sleep before the onset. Then I was put on an allopathy medicine called etizola, which used to help me to sleep and hence control the attack. I again had a panic attack a night before I had to travel back from my in-laws city, in December last week.
Then again, I experienced this when I tried giving up the medicine 'etizola', during that time, almost every morning I felt a little bit of it for a week or so. Then it subsided. It had been peaceful since then. Last month again I had slight palpitations one afternoon, which later subsided.
If I have to list out what triggered them or what circumstances prevailed at that time, it would be one or more of the following:
1. Being alone at home and not feeling well physically, cough, cold, fever etc.
2. A few days before such attack, I would have had an emotional outburst or some mental tension about life situations which give me a feeling that they may impact my relations with my loved ones, typically my husband. (though these fears have been baseless, only in my mind)
3. In case, I feel that nobody would be there to help, if I need it.
4. When I feel insecure about future.
5. I have also noticed that before such a panic attack, I inevitable would have gone through 1 or 2 nights of improper sleep, reasons could be anything, from too hot or cold, to mental worries.

The current situation is that my mother-in-law is visiting us. She has been with us for the last one month. she is a good natured lady but has old age related health problems. she is 74. Last two days she is suffering from digestive disorders (now cured) and hence was talking about going back to her hometown. My husband yesterday left for an official trip. He has been travelling quite a lot for the last one month. And I am managing things at home.

Sepia has helped me in many ways which I have shared. The few things that I can see exist till now are:
1. The eczema on my right thumb has not fully healed, it remains as a rough dry patch.
2. Fear of darkness had gone to some extent but seems to be back in the last 3-4 days.
3. Fear of being alone too was resolved but after yesterday, I am a bit apprehensive. Though right now I have my Mother-in-law and brother at home and am never really alone.
4. Tendency to fret about small things has come down to some extent.
5. I can hear a ringing sound in my left ear, which earlier used to happen sometimes but now I can feel it more often. It may also be because I focus too much on it as when I am engrossed in something, I don't notice it.
6. Also, I feel light-headedness at times, typically when either I am tensed or in the mornings.

Hope I have answered your questions.

Nainananjoy 9 years ago
Please take one dose of SEPIA 200C. It seems the remedy has worked well so it can be repeated a few times more, till it produces a response.

You may take a few more doses of SEPIA 200C once in a month or whenever your symptoms return. When you will feel, this potency is not producing a reaction, you should go for one dose of SEPIA 1M.

A sepia women dreads to be alone, so your panic attacks may be addressed by another dose of SEPIA. If 200C doesn't bring it down, any higher potency will.

Dear Dr. Rishimba
I had taken my last dose of Sepia on July 29th. I am doing well, and most of my symptoms have reduced. This time my menstrual period also lasted around 3 days.
today, I fell on the road while getting down from the bus as the bus started to move suddenly. Luckily have No injuries, was able to walk back home comfortably. However, I have slight pain at the base of the spine. would you suggest I take some medicine, if yes then what?

Nainananjoy 9 years ago
You could take a few doses of ARNICA 30C thrice a day for 2 to 3 days max.

rishimba 9 years ago
Thank you so much. Will do that. Also should I continue with Sepia again this month?

Nainananjoy 9 years ago
For sepia you had to assess if you got cured completely of all your problems. If not, you could continue one dose per month of 1M potency for some months or till your symptoms remained.

rishimba 9 years ago
Dear Dr. Rishimba
Thanks for d prompt reply. While I think most of my symptoms have reduced considerably, last time what I took was Sepia 200c, that worked well. So wud u suggest that I go up to 1M?

Nainananjoy 9 years ago
No, stick to 200C till its producing a response. You can take it once in 15 days based on the intensity of your symptoms.

When 200C stops producing any response, you can jump to 1M potency once in a month or so.
