Levothyroxin substitute

Hello, I am a 53 year old male. 2 years ago, I was hospitalized because of extreme edema. To make a long story short, I was in heart failure. My weight ballooned up to 450 lbs. After hospitalization, I lost 140lbs in the first 30 days.

I was diagnosed with an 'old heart attack,' heart failure, cor pulmonale, afib, and tachycardia.

I was told the root cause of m y problems was years after year, decade after decade, of undiagnosed sleep apnea. I would stop breathing around 40 or so times an hour.

I discontinued warfarin on my own for the atrial fibrillation. It was causing me bleeding problems and I could not afford the continuing blood tests. Also, from my own reading, it seems that Vitamin K is essential for heart health. I was afraid that the warfartin would put me in a lifelong dependency.

I have gradually been weaned off of most of the hm,edications that my M.D. prescribed. My M.D. also tells me that I am in the top 1% of all heart patients he has seen at to recovery. So, I am now doing quite well.

But, I do have one issue...
I am taking 25mcg of Levothyroxin per day. I beleive the Levothyroxin is causing skin problems for me. When I have experimented and stopped taking it, the skin on the back of my hands is no longer dry and stops itching. When I take the Levothyroxin, my skin dries out, starts to itch, I absent-mindedly scratch, and the skin startrs to bleed.

Unfortunately, when I stop the Levothyroxin, I seem to begin to rapidly gain weight.

Is there a homeopathic substitue I could try for 25mcg Levothyroxin? I could try it for a few days and see if I experience thw weight gain. If I do, I could just go back on the thyroid med. But, I would like to be off of as many medications as possible. I would also like to get rid of this skin problem.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Do you still suffer from sleep apnea?

Is it proved your weight gain is due to years of sleep apnea?

Are you in a position to stop all your allopathic medicines for a week and note the original and true symptoms for us to suggest a homeopathic similimmum?

IT was obstructive sleep apnea. The sleep apnea caused the damage to my heart. The heart became too weak to force blood through the kidneys. So, fluid built up in my tissues. I developed extreme edema.

I am currently only taking 25 mcg levothyroxin one daily and Labetalol 100 mg twice daily.

I am also advised to take other medicines. But, I am not taking them.

In the hospital, they put me on oxygen and a bipap machine at night. I continued with the bipap machine for a while after being released from the hospital.

I wanted to try without the bipap machine.

I n ow sleep on my side rather than on my back. When I was tested with an oxymeter overnight, my blood-oxygen level remained in the safe area after I started sleeping on my side.

I always sleep on my side now. So, my airway is no longer being blocked at night.

I am told that if I quit the labetalol, I could be in danger.. I could go back into tachycardia.

When I stop the thyroid meds on my own, within a day or two I start to notice weight gain.

Thank you for your kind help :)

If you are interested to know about homeopathic remedies that might help in this condition, you need to describe your mental make-up, personality, likes and dislikes, fears and dreams etc.

Your general symptoms like hunger, thirst, sweat, urine, stool, thermal preferences etc. would be helpful to find the remedy.

I've been experiencing some very strong memories of some very bad things that happened to me as a young adult. I find myself dwelling on them daily, especially first thing in the morning, and it takes time from doing other things. I lose time. Once I get involved with my day, I am OK.

People do seem to like me. I've been described as engaging by some people, hyper by others.

All that suffering and then nearly dying has given me a new perspective. I wish it could have happened to me when I was in my 20's. It reallly has clarified for me what matters in life and what doesn't.

I currently eat mostly fresh fruit, cheese (lots of cheese), nuts, seeds, berries.
I really crave cheese. I also drink a lot of decaffeinated coffee. I eat almost no prepared or cooked food... except for the occasional slices of bread maybe every few weeks.

I get bouts of great hunger where I want to 'feed,' not just eat. 'Sweat, urine, stool, thermal preferences' seem to be normal.

I am very physically active in one of my two part-time jobs. It could also be described as high stress and high activity-waiting on people on the sales floor in a greatly undermanned store. But, I think it is good stress... I enjoy it most of the time. It has been good for me to mix with a lot of different people.

Every morning I do the 'Five Tibetan Rites,' 14 reps of each exercise. This is when I really lose time. Even though it is a series of simple exercise, I get bogged down. I think this is when I'm processing old junk that is still in my head.

Again, thank you so very much for trying to help me.

-Joe

Also, I forgot to mention...

Sometimes I do have a problem staying asleep for the full eight hours. I usually have no problem at all falling asleep. But sometimes, i wake up after 6 or 7 hours. Even though I lay there, It may take me an hour or more to fall back asleep.

I do not like sleeping in a bed. I sleep on a blanket on the floor. Oddly enough, this is how I am most comfortable.

Sorry to keep posting...

I do take vitamin supplements. At night, I take melatonin, theanine. I also take L-arginine (NOx to dilate the blood vessels), L-glutamine for GH release.

Durimg the day, I do supplement with D-ribose, which is supposed to be very helpful with heart failure patients. I also noticed another benefit...

A while back I talked to my MD about a very prominent, unsightly varicose vein on my calf. He said that this was permanent and that it would only continue to get worse with time. After taking D-ribose for just a few weeks, I noticed an improvement. Now, it is gone.

You have not mentioned much about your personality and mental make-up.

How do you come across with your family members, friends and colleagues? What opinion do they carry about you?

Can you pick out around ten adjectives describing your mental make-up, thoughts and overall personality?

I've always been a very independent person... a loner. When i was younger, I never really fit in. I tend to think out-of-the-box. I will give people the benefit of the doubt, even if they say things that don't quite make sense to me.. it's their experience of their own lives. I won't just dismiss any idea because it goes against my own experience.

Friendly, very considerate, tolerant, gentle, a hard worker, but with a strong independent streak.

Open, even to ideas others consider strange

Thoughtful

Hyper

Contemplative

Calculating

Patient with people, impatient in traffic

Strong willed, able to go against the crowd if I believe in something

Self disciplined cordiality when dealing with hostile people

Someone who may brood in private even while putting on a happy face to others

Very lazy when left on my own

I'm not sure if this is what you want. I hope I've hit the nail on the head :)

Thank you! I guess I can choose a few remedies using the information you have provided.

Now for the physical symptoms-

If you stopped taking the medicine, what sufferings would you have while asleep or when awake?

Can you describe the sufferings in your own words without using medical terms?

Initially, when you didn't know what was wrong with you, what problems did you face while sleeping? Did you actually wake up several times at night and gasped for air?

To suggest a remedy, these original disease symptoms are crucial.

As I went into heart failure, I did not know what was happening. I only k new I was gaining weight and I was tired upon waking.

As the edema ( water retention) progressed, naturally my skin became tighter and tighter. I developed great pain deep in my legs. The fluid would leak out, so my legs were constantly wet. I could not keep my socks dry. I had to keep my socks and my sheets changed constantly.

The skin would split and I would experience grave pain.

I could not sleep. Eventually, I would scream in my sleep. The screams would wake me up.

My mental state became confused... I could not tell if it was day or night, if I was awake of sleeping.

My weight wet up to well over 400 lbs. I could no longer fit in a car. If I would fall when I was alone, it might take me 30 or more minutes to roll over and then become stand again.

My testicles became huge from the edema... so huge that the doctors in the hospital asked for my permission to photograph them, keeping me anonymous.

I tried everything on my own I could think of, chiropractic, herbs, vitamins, Spectrochrome, all to no avail.

I would experience extreme thirst. But, I did not dare drink anything. As soon as I did, the fluid would go to my tissues and the thirst would not go away.

I finally gave into my family and agreed to be hospitalized.

I was in heart failure. My heart could no longer do its job. The muscle had so thinkened that it lost its elasticity.

I was in tachycardia. My heart was beating at over 100 times a minute. They had a very difficult time trying to calm down my heart. I guess it wasn't 'beating' so much as it was just quivering.

I had cor pulmonale... right side heart enlargement. I was told at that time that my right atrium was 2.5 times the size it should be. This would forever throw off the rhythm of my heart.

They discovered what they called an 'old heart attack' that I must have suffered some time before.

They also determined that I had lost some kidney function.

The remedy that's coming up is LACHESIS MUTUS.

I feel you can take one dose in 200C potency only on a single day and see if it made your sleep better.

Once you notice a positive change in in your sleep and feeling of well being in the next 10 days of taking the dose, you know you have started the right remedy.

After that your objective should be to decrease the dosage of the medicine you are taking continually and very slowly so that you can wean yourself off it.

Keep repeating Lachesis 200C whenever you feel the quality of sleep going bad. I must warn you not to repeat it sooner than three weeks.

One dose would be 3 drops of remedy in a tablespoon of water taken in empty stomach and clean mouth first thing in the morning. Go back to sleep for another 2 hours so that you don't end up eating, drinking or rinsing your mouth.

I understand it would be a long drawn healing process, but this is the only way to do it.

Just to clarify here-

Lachesis 200- only one dose and do NOT take it again for 3 weeks.

And never take it more than once in 3 weeks -

So if you felt your quality of sleep going bad-you must remember
when you last took lachesis 200 and not take another dose of it
until 3 weeks have passed-

Thank you all so very much rishimba! I will follow your advice and see what happens.

simone717, thank you for the clarification..
Thanks,
-Joe

PS. I will report back here.

Does it matter if the LACHESIS MUTUS 200C is in liquid form? Or, could I take it in granules or pill form?

Thank you.

I always prefer the liquid doses. It spreads fast and tends to get absorbed better.
