Female Hormonal Imbalance

Hi there,

I am 23 year old female (slim built) and I am suffering from the below mentioned problems and will also list some of my tendencies to better understand my situation.

Female Hormonal Imbalance - blood tests indicate I have excess free testosterone.

Excess facial and body hair, doctor has told be its hirsutism.

My periods have always been regular. For the past, I'd say 4 to 5 years, I use to get severe (like extremely severe) stomach aches on the 1st day of my period followed by nausea, vomiting. Eating proper food was next to impossible on the first day as I would cause vomiting. Recently, since 2 period cycles...the above mentioned problem has been fixed, but now I have a new one. Instead of getting severe stomach aches and vomiting, I now suffer from nausea a week before and through out my period. Constant craving for fizzy drinks, lemonade, cold water or drinks in general is ongoing during these days. They help me feel better.

I also get severe acne...puss filled red pimples that hurt when pressed during periods. Actually a week before periods, during periods...the acne is ongoing. It instantly starts to disappear as soon as my period finishes.

Also, nausea...feeling like I'm going to vomit is almost ongoing regardless of whether its my period time or not. Its worse in the morning...I have a hard time eating in the morning unless its yogurt or if its drinking citrus juice then its good.

I don't know if the symptoms are starting to sound like morning sickness. So, just to take note...I'm a virgin, so my problem can't be related to those topics.

A little bit more about myself.

I suffer from low self esteem sometimes. I also have a tendency to get extremely nervous (start sweating, face starts contorting) before presentations. I have a bit of social phobia as well. Constant feelings of being judged...'what will this or that person think if I behave a certain way' haunt me. I conceal all these things though. Anyone who doesn't know me well enough will probably think I'm a very confident, sorted woman.

What's really bothering me right now is the acne that I get before and during periods..puss filled, small red pimples and the facial hair. I'm a good looking woman but these things destroy me. I get excessively concerned about physical looks and its been damaging to my personality.

Another point, I also suffer from anemia, but its on and off. If I take care of my health it goes away.

Please recommend me something appropriate. Your advice might turn out to be a saving grace for me.

Thanks! :)

rishimba 9 years ago
Female, 23 years of age.

Post graduate student

Habits – studying, watching TV, listening to music, internet

1. Main suffering is female hormonal imbalance. Blood test reports indicated high levels of free testosterone in my blood.

2. As a result of the hormonal imbalance, I have excessive body and facial hair (Hirsutism). Other than that, I also deal with acne (small, red, puss-filled white faced pimples) which gets worse a week before my menstrual cycle and it only starts to cure after my period finishes.

3. Due to the excessive facial hair and acne, I get very anxious about my physical appearance. I mostly avoid people when the facial hair is not removed (i.e. waxed or laserd) because I feel very self conscious. And, over time this problem has made my already existent social anxiety issue worse – fear of getting judged, rejected and ignored.

4. A miasma of hopelessness surrounds me when I feel worst. I get restless which accompanies heavy breathing. I don’t like to talk during this time.

5. I can’t speculate what caused the hormone levels to become unbalanced but I’ve had quite a sad childhood. I’m the only child and my parents are overprotective about me, especially my mother who has given my immense love and support, but she has this extreme factor in her personality which I seem to have understood and accepted now but as a kid it used to leave me devastated. My mom is someone who gives me way much more attention than I need but when she is surrounded by her niece, nephews or anyone else who she adores, she completely ignores me. It’s either too much love or complete ignorance and that use to really bother me as a kid. Apart from this, I was also separated from my parents for almost 3 years – during my teen years and that’s when the hormonal imbalance symptoms started occurring. I was 11 or 12 then.

As for diseases, nope I haven’t dealt with anything major.

6. In the morning, I always carry with me a feeling of nausea. In the morning, it’s at its worst. I can barely eat, but I force myself. And, in the evening I can eat as much as I want. So morning as worst for me – feeling that I am going to vomit. In the evening, appetite wise I am fine, but I tend to get sad in the evening.

7. Sunshine really helps me feel better. And, the rain or dark weather makes me feel sad. During my periods, cold temperature makes me feel worse. Tight clothing makes me sweaty. I feel comfortable in warm temperature and prefer to wear loose, cotton clothing.

8. My period does tend to get worse when I travel. I live in North America and every time I’ve travelled to India, I have to suffer through very heavy bleeding (its otherwise normal when I’m at one place and I’ve adjusted there, but initially its hard).

9. Hot and dry weather. I love sunshine!

10. I do tend to procrastinate quite a bit. I can be moody but I hate to take out my anger at anyone else. I usually stay quite when I’m angry. But overall, my evaluation of other people is that I’m mellow and calm. I also quiet and shy.

- During thunderstorm, no feelings. I don’t like rain or lightening in general, but thunders don’t seem to bother me.
- I like to be on my own and a figure a way out. I usually don’t like other people to see the weak side of me, so I don’t like to be consoled by others.
- I am very sensitive to smell. I can pick up smells from very far away and if I don’t like them it induces vomiting.
- Typical habits, I’ve noticed I shake my right leg a lot. It makes me feel at easy. I also like to talk to myself.
- I have a loving family but I do have quite a few restrictions – no dating, no wearing this and that clothes etc, but overtime I have accepted and I don’t feel frustrated anymore. As for friends, I use to make a lot of friends before and keep them in my life no matter what, but with time, I have filtered out my friends. Now, only the people who respect me and actually want to be in my life are my friends – 2 close friends really. And in general about people, I try to judge less and try to find happiness independently.
- I live with my parents and I am the only child.

11. Social phobia, fear of rejection, public speaking and I also have a fear of reptiles, especially lizards and snakes.

12. I’m not a foodie, but I sometimes (and especially before and during periods) crave fizzy drinks, lemonade or in general cold citrus drinks. I also like home made curd. I am averse to the fruit avocado and green tea.

13. Thirst keeps on fluctuating. Some days I have normal thirst but on majority I barely feel thirsty, but I do drink water forcefully to stay healthy.

14. I would say normal at majority, but I do experience complete loss of appetite time and again. In the morning especially, I feel nauseated and eating breakfast is a hell of a task. As the day progresses though, my hunger starts to kick in gradually. I feel most hungry during dinner time.

15. Fresh, raw milk. I probably won’t be able to stand that, but I think I’m more averse to it.

16. I do sweat quite a bit and sometimes it’s a lot. And, the sweat is usually only under arm pits. Other areas are just fine.

17. On average, okay, but sometimes I experience liquid stool. Also, sometimes my body gets very flatulent.

18. On average, okay. Almost 7 hours of sleep everyday, but I sleep late at night – at 12 am or 1 am. I like to sleep in freefaller position (sleep on stomach).

19. Nope. I’m not allowed to date. My sexual desires are usually at peak a week or 2 before my period and I just curb them.

20. Well, nothing too peculiar about me, but I mostly keep to myself. I am not assertive. I think talking about my life would be boring for the other person, so I just listen to the other person talk.

21. I don’t take any allopathic medicines.

22. My great grand father had tuberculosis.

23. 5’5 feet tall, weigh 56 kgs, pale skin tone (not reddish).
24. I get my period every month, but I get a lot of acne before my period and it starts to cure only when the period is done with. My emotions are also heightened during my period and a week before. Sexual desires are also at a peak during period. I also experience loss of appetite a week before and into my period. Feelings of nausea are also at peak during this time.

25. No major diseases.

You said you were not living with your parents for three years, when you were about 11 or 12 years old. As per you, this is the time your hormonal imbalance started.

How did you know it? At what age did you start your menstrual cycle?

Are you having regular but painful periods right from the first cycle? Or it has become like this after a certain incident in life?

rishimba 9 years ago
My first period started at the age of 12. At that time, I didn't experience any pain ...just the usual bit of weakness though. I did however think there was a problem with my hormones because my upper lip hair started to become dense and I had a few thick coarse hair on my chin as well.

Then starting from 18 years of age, I started to get terrible stomach aches on the first day of my period. I would also feel highly nauseated. If I had something heavy to eat, it would induce vomiting. So I barely ate anything on the first day. Rest of period days were fine but I did feel immense weakness.

About my current state, its been about 2 months and the pain has vanished. From the last two period cycles, my periods are normal and I don't experience any pain...just little bit of weakness.

Also, just take note that I use to be really skinny (underweight). After my undergraduate (age 22), I started overeating (trying to gain weight). I use to weigh 42 kgs and in the past year I have put 14 kgs of weight. Just wanted to tell you this because may be the weight played factor in improving my overall condition?

Let me know if you have any other questions.

And, thank you for your reply.

Please answer the following questions.

1. Have you ever noticed a brownish or yellowish, discolored band on skin across your nose?

2. Do you like exercising? Do exercises make you feel better?

3. Do you get affected by slight changes of weather?

4. Do you want to be always independent in your life?

5. Are you in a relationship or had any relationship in the past? Do you like being in a relationship?

6. Have you ever done a scan of your ovaries to see if there were any cysts?

7. Is the quantity of flow heavy, medium or scanty? How many days does it last?

8.Do you like spending your leisure time inside a cozy warm room reading a book or going out for a walk in the park where there's plenty of cool breeze?

rishimba 9 years ago
1. No, nothing of that sort

2. I get lazy, but occasionally (in the past) and recently (just started) I practice yoga and it make me feel a lot better in the sense that I feel like I have managed to accomplish (a daily routine) that I thought of. Also, I feel like I’m healing with the yoga.

3. Not really. I suppose only if I’m careless. Usually, my health will give slight signs of catching a cold or cough and I’m pretty health conscious, so I’ll steam and eat extra healthy and I’m good to go.

4. Yes, that would be a boost to my self-worth but I have always been dependent on my parents. I suppose that’s the way I’ve been bought up. Even until now, my mom will insist to call my friend’s parents if I have to go for a sleep over at her house. So I haven’t been able to achieve freedom in the personal/social aspect of my life. But, career wise I have full freedom. My parents want me to excel in my education and I have similar views. I was given freedom to choose the degree I wanted to pursue and even now, I’m pursuing my post graduate and my parents are extremely supportive. I have to admit though I get pampered a lot (materialistically) but those things hardly matter to me and I hardly ever take advantage of the fact.

6. Yes, I have gotten an ultrasound done and I’ve been tested for polycystic ovary syndrome. And, thankfully everything is fine.

7 First two days are medium, I suppose. They last for about 5 days and the flow gradually slows down day by day.

8. Definitely in a cozy blanket reading a book

One more thing I want to tell you about me is my obsessive thoughts about various major diseases and viruses or major problems/ social issues in general. They don’t haunt me every day, but like recently I watched a documentary recently about people infected with a certain virus and it really scared the crap out of me. I got depressed for about 2 days and then it went away. This happens to me a lot. I get affected by social issues a lot With my career as well, I originally wanted to study criminology and psychology but I noticed that these things would impact me to another level so I choose to go with accounting (it’s a subject that I like, but I can stay detached and still enjoy a peaceful life).
Thanks again for your reply.

Your remedy is SEPIA OFFICINALIS. You are becoming a sepia lady gradually, so keep this remedy handy.

Start treatment with 200C potency two doses on a single day, each dose 30 minutes apart.

Take it on a single day. If you feel it helps, you can take a sustained dose once in a week for some weeks till all your problems are sorted out.

One dose would be 3 drops of remedy in some 10 ml of water taken in empty stomach and clean mouth first thing in the morning.

Take the first dose-set on a weekend morning so that you can go back to sleep for another one hour after taking the second dose.

Come back here after a week and share your observations.

I feel, pimples may take some time to go but nausea will reduce within the first few doses.

rishimba 9 years ago
Hi Rishi,

I took Sepia as instructed. So far I haven't noticed any difference. May be the nausea is a incy wincy bit better. May be. But, there isn't anything noticeable at this point.

Should I retain the dose?

Thanks!

sugar_21 9 years ago
When did you take the dose-set? If it has been a week and you haven't responded much, its time to take the dose again that would create a stronger stimulus.

I am pretty sure, this remedy will cure your nausea and many other problems. We just have to know which potency and what dosage is going to produce the right stimulus for your body to respond.

We will not change the potency for now. We will make the dosing a bit stronger and observe first. If you don't respond even with a stronger dosing pattern, we will go to a higher potency.

If you have observed yourself for a week after taking the dose and nothing much has changed, take 5 doses of SEPIA 200C, each dose 12 hours apart. Thus, in 48 hours, you would have taken all five doses. In case you start feeling better or worse after taking a few doses, don't take the rest of the doses.

Follow the same restrictions as suggested before. This time please buy the remedy from a different source, maybe BOIRON, RECKEWEG or HELIOS etc. I don't have much faith on local manufacturers. Its possible, you were not taking the genuine stuff.

Come back after a week and then we will see what to do next based on your observations.

I took Sepia last Thursday at about 5 in the morning and then half an hour later I took the second dose and slept.

Its Thursday again, and I took the same dose in the morning. So, I've already had two doses. How shall I proceed now? Should I take the next dose after 12 hours and then continue the next 3 doses with a 12 hour gap - total 6.

My father went to India 3 years ago and bought Dr. Reckeweg's medicine. The expiry date is 02/2018. So I should be good to take it, right?

sugar_21 9 years ago
Sorry you said total 5 doses. So, I need to take 3 more doses now. Just let me know how I should proceed though because I've taken the morning dose (2 doses) as suggested before.

Thanks!

sugar_21 9 years ago
Yes, take SEPIA 200C of Reckeweg Make. Its a good brand.

Take some 4 to 5 doses, each dose 12 hours apart.

rishimba 9 years ago
The morning 2 doses are nothing but one dose-set.

Take few more doses once every 12 hours. Total 5 doses maximum.

rishimba 9 years ago
Sorry I'm a bit late. Anyways, I ended up taking the 5 doses and I do feel better (the nausea). I'm close to my menstrual cycle and my nausea's usually insufferable at this point in time, but its highly manageable this time.

How should I proceed now?

Also, just wondering, I know you said that the acne will take time to cure, but will it cure? I don't have acne otherwise, but I do get it a week before and during my period and that seems to be common amongst a lot of women. Would you say its normal? And, can it actually be cured?

Thank you again for all your help and advice!

sugar_21 9 years ago
Yes, acne can be cured because its not normal. A few women have this symptom but it doesn't happen to most or all.

If your nausea is less and manageable, it means you have responded to it. Now, whenever nausea peaks during or just before the flow, start taking SEPIA 200C every 6 hours for 2 days maximum. I guess you will respond better and this sensation will significantly reduce.

Do this again whenever you feel nausea during subsequent periods.

All your other problems, that are related to hormonal imbalance will also get cured gradually in a few months.

rishimba 9 years ago
Hi Rishi,

I have been taking Sepia regularly. This time before and into my period when my nausea was bad, I ended up taking more than you instructed because the nausea was becoming manageable day by day..it didn't disappear though but I saw great improvement in my acne. I stopped taking the doses after I ended up with perspiration problems under my underarms (revolting smell, I must add).

Overall, I really like Sepia. I feel its definitely for me but I'm not able to strike the right balance. I still have nausea right now (also a new symptom is heart burns from eating anything fried). Can you please guide me about how much is too much in homeopathy and any possible side-effects, precautions etc.

Thank you again for all your help! I really appreciate it.

sugar_21 9 years ago
In homeopathy, you should take the remedy only when you have the symptoms.

If 200C potency is not completely taking away the symptoms, try one dose of SEPIA 1M to overcome nausea. Just one dose in the morning when you feel it.

Don't take SEPIA continuously if you don't have symptoms.

If you have symptoms, take a few doses of 200C potency every 6 hours till you have the symptoms. If the symptoms reduce, stop or taper down the doses.

If you go for 1M potency, go for just one dose to start with and see its response.

rishimba 9 years ago
What is Sepia 1M?

I only have Sepia 200 and Sepia 30 at home.

Can I take the 30 dose? Once in the morning?

Thanks!

Now that you are on 200C potency, I don't think you will respond to 30C in the next few days.

Its best to take SEPIA 200C or go one step higher in 1M potency.

1M potency is 1000C which is higher than 200C in its depth of action.

I would recommend one dose of 1M potency and repetition only after 15 days. If you follow this for a few months, you will be fine. Taper down the 1M dose to once a month and then finally stop.

I will receive the Sepia 1000C potency in early August.

I haven't been taking Sepia lately though. Some of the problems that I had are fixed completely. I use to have leukorrhea and that has completely disappeared since the last few weeks. Nausea is also not there since I'm not on my period.

But, the acne.... its hard to understand the pattern. I use to only get it a week before my period and then after the cycle it would go away. This time however it has not disappeared. I have noticed though that when I take Sepia it reduces significantly. But then again like I said I would get rid of it automatically after my period. This time I have some large, painful pimples on my cheek towards the bottom and some below my jaw line.

What should I do? I don't want to take Sepia without any reason, but what about the acne? Should I start the 200 doses again?

Also, can you suggest what I should use on my face? I use Nivea cream as a moisturizer otherwise my skin gets dry but I have a doubt that it may be aggravating the acne.

Thanks!

Just wanted to quickly mention another problem of mine. The sole of my feet start burning during summer time, especially during bed time. Its so bad that I have to keep washing my feet after every 2 hours and then I place it right in front of the fan or else I can't sleep.

On other days, my feet are usually cold.

Rarely ever never normal temperature.

Just wanted to tell you that, just in case the information is helpful in my assessment.

sugar_21 9 years ago
You could try SULPHUR 200C some doses whenever you feel burning of sole at night. Take the doses 4 hours apart...maximum 4 to 6 doses.

If you don't respond to sulphur even in 3 or 4 days, come back to me.

rishimba 9 years ago
I took Sulphur. The burning in the sole of my feet has been better but the weather has been a tad chilly as well so I don't know if I should attribute it to that...

I read that sulphur is suppose to help with the acne but it didn't help me at all. If anything my acne is worse.

I mentioned earlier that I would only break out during and before periods, but for some reason the acne has become permanent now. I break out on my nose, around and below my jaw line and on the cheeks. Its getting a bit too much now. Can you please suggest something?
