Constitutional remedy brings success for genital herpes for 15 years before becoming antidoted.

I am a 57-year-old male who contracted genital herpes 30 years ago and suffered outbreaks once or twice a year up until 1990. In 1990 Bill Gray, MD prescribed a constitutional remedy arsenicum album, 200C, taken as a single dose. He said "this will cure your herpes". To my great surprise it did, for the next 15 years. The day I took the remedy, I woke up in the middle of the night from a vivid dream, feeling slightly feverish and certain that I was developing a rash on my penis. The next day there was nothing, and I did not suffer another outbreak for the next 15 years.

Recently, there is in a lot of talk about the health benefits of coffee, perhaps due to its antioxidant properties. I had pretty much avoided coffee my whole life, although I did have an infrequent cup. But in the last couple months I started drinking coffee daily. After 15 years without symptoms, genital herpes reoccurred.

Two questions:
1. Is it really possible that the coffee antidoted my constitutional remedy after 15 years, or is this just coincidence?

2. I restarted low potency arsenicum, and the genital herpes abated quickly, in about a week. Any advice on restarting arsenicum at a constitutional potency? Do I need to avoid coffee?

Thank you and best regards.

Yes, coffee can and will antidote your remedies years after taking them. How do I know this? Because I did it too!

I am a recovering 'Fibromyalgiac' and use Arnica, Rhus Tox and Mag Phos (and others) for the aches, pains, spasms, etc. I had been able to achieve a very good place of very little pain and was mostly symptom free for more than 2 years. Then one day, I went to the truck stop for biscuits and gravy... and what do you drink with biscuits and gravy while at the truck stop? Well, good old black coffee, what else? lol.. I had given up coffee and caffeine years before but missed it and thought one or two small cups won't make a difference... WRONG! Before the day was out, my aches started to return and by 3 days past drinking coffee, you wouldn't know I had ever treated my symptoms at all. I had to start over at the beginning and retake all my remedies.

So lesson learned for me! I was told that coffee would antidote but I guess I was feeling invincible because I had been doing so well for so long and just had to test the theory. Never again will I touch coffee, no matter how severe my craving for it is!

There are people who swear that coffee does *not* antidote them but I don't see how that could be true. Some folks believe that all they have to do is keep a clean mouth while taking their remedies and then drink coffee during the day and that homeopathy still works for them. I suspect they need a lot more doses of the remedies (probably daily doses!) than someone not using coffee would and honestly don't see how they would get any real results at all.

I have also known people who refused to try homeopathy at all because they can't their minds around the fact they would have to stop the coffee/caffeine. Might as well ask them to chop off their noses, if you know what I mean. And of course, there are those who refuse to stop drinking coffee and fail to get positive results from the remedies and believe that homeopathy doesn't work at all and is silly.... when it was their coffee intake that prevented the remedy from working in the first place!

My opinion: Caffeine is a dangerous and addictive drug and should be avoid at all times and at all costs. Coffee is an expensive item to buy yet is harvested by people who are not paid well for their products and services. Like with pharmaceuticals, I don't wish to support the corporations who sell it while pretending it is harmless and/or actually good for us in some way.

Thanks for reading this.

Coffee may be bad or good, people do drink it. I suggest you to put your case here, may be this time you need a different remedy.

May be some thing else in your food triggered the herpes again.

If arsenic alb helped you in the first place..your herpes was because of food poisioning.

This time again something like that cud have happened.

Pankaj, please explain what you mean by his herpes being caused by food poisoning? How would that be possible?

arsenic alb is a medicine for food poisioning..... one of the important symptoms being ....severe skin irritation and burning.

Where Arsenic Alb cures...the cause is normally food poisioning...it can also be...drinking of contaminated water.

In its original (non-homeopathic) form ...Arsenic is poision.

But he said arsenic alb was his constitutional remedy... his need for it would therefore not be dependant on food poisoning being present.

The question here though was whether or not coffee antidoted his remedy. That answer is yes.

what need be considered is --what was he sttae of health in other aspects after treatment of herpes 15 years ago--and if any other compliants occured since and how treated--good done can not be undone if IN FACT curative--coffe did not antidote--it is most lke arsenicum suppressed symptoms---and coffee stimuli to set back into action....agai need to know how other aspects have changed in health history before coffee and after...as well as after taking arsenicum...ok?

The missing 'w' was un-intentional.

The constitution is such ...that it is prone to food poisioning !!

tea is considered as having good antioxidant property and not coffee. it is least possible that coffee would have antidoted after 15 years. the reoccurence may also be due to infection from other external sources

I'd like to quote the following study:

Utsunomiya, H, M Ichinose, M Uozaki, K Tsujimoto, H Yamasaki and AH Koyama. 2008. Antiviral activities of coffee extracts in vitro. Food and Chemical Toxicology 46:1919–1924.

'Coffee extracts killed the herpes virus upon direct contact. When extracts were added to infected cells, the herpes virus was unable to grow and reproduce within cells. The coffee also reduced the likelihood of the virus spreading to other cells.'

So arguments of coffee being bad for herpes don't hold up to science.
