The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Heartburn in 13 month old

Hi! I'm new to this forum, and to homeopathic remedies, but am looking to alternatives to modern medicine, as I much prefer to stick with something natural, especially when it comes to my child.

As a baby, she had the reflux that many babies have (excessive gas, not wanting to be lied down flat, periods of being inconsolable, wanting to nurse all the time, etc.) and we never medicated her for it. We had good pediatricians who didn't push any of the normal medications and told us to keep her upright, use things like simithicone and colic calm, etc. and that she would grow out of it.

For a while, it did seem to get better. But now my husband is convinced that she's in pain, especially at night, and it is part of why she isn't sleeping well (she's never slept well). He said her breath smells like vinegar, which is a symptom, and that last night, while he was holding her she cried after every time she burped, and that they were wet burps. She does have to burp fairly often after nursing even now, and will wake up and need to picked up to get the burp out. She used to go right back to sleep afterwards; now, she has a more difficult time and needs extra assistance from him or to be nursed again (which I'm trying to avoid, as it just starts the cycle over again and then nobody gets any sleep!). He brought up last night that we should talk about getting her some medicine for it and seeing if it makes her feel better and she can get some sleep. He did say he was open to other idea though, even if we tried baking soda.

Unfortunately, as it isn't my body, I can't give too much more detail as to what's going on. I do know that I do NOT want to medicate; she's never had medication in her entire life, and I'd much prefer to keep it that way! I also am sure that her problems sleeping are from other things as well - at the moment, she's teething, but she also has eczema (and any suggestions about that I'm open to as well!), so I'm sure she's waking up itchy at night, and she also tends to not eat enough, and when she doesn't eat enough during the day, she gets hungry and wakes more often to nurse. Sometimes, it gets so bad that nursing isn't satisfying her and we have to get up and give her a snack and then put her back to bed after. However, if she is uncomfortable from it, despite the other issues, I do agree that we should do what we can to help her - in as natural of a way as possible.

Thank you in advance for your assistance!
