The ABC Homeopathy Forum

help me breathe...

Hello,

I have been healthy all my life until 4 years ago.

Now I struggle to breathe and I cough violently at night and can't sleep. I also have mucus in my throat/chest and cough it up. I am on Prednisone and antibiotics and still struggling. I have to use Albuterol in a nebulizer a few times every night or the asthma like condition makes me gag when I cough. I cannot lay flat or I will choke so I have been sitting up for the last few weeks and only get naps. So I am exhausted in the morning from no good rest.

I hope to find something that will get me back to normal soon.

Thank you. P

What condition have the doctors diagnosed you with?

Evocationer 9 years ago
Thank you for getting back to me.

One doctor says it is simply Bronchitas. Another doctor said it is Adult onset Asthma. One doctor says it is triggered by allergic reaction to construction dust, such as drywall dust, fiberglass insulation, fine wood dust etc.

What started it all is I was doing demolition on my own home and taking down a 40 year old ceiling in my basement. I was not wearing a respirator at the time. It took a couple weeks till I started feeling like I was getting a bad cold. But then the heavy coughing started and I coughed like I had Whooping cough for over a year. I went to pulmonary specialists and they had no answers. I spent all my savings on doctors and got no answers to what causes my cough and wheezing and shortness of breath.

HOW TO DESCRIBE YOUR COMPLAINTS (Physical Components)

In homoeopathy, prescription is based on precise details of various symptoms from which you suffer. To tell or write to a homoeopathic physician 'I have a headache ', ' an eruption ' or “a cough” would not be enough. If you inform him 'I have headache with sharp shooting pains in the left side of the head and temple, these pains always come on when the slightest cold air strikes the head. I feel better by pressing the head very hard.” Then only you have given all the information required for making a good homoeopathic prescription. The success of the prescription depends; largely on how detailed your description of the symptoms is.
We require the following details about your symptoms.

LOCATION: Please give the exact location of sensation, pain or eruption. Also describe where the pain or sensation spreads.

SENSATION: Express the type of sensation or the pain that you get in your own words however simple or funny it may seem. You may have a sensation that a mouse is crawling or the heart was grasped by an iron hand or you may have a pain that is cutting, burning jerking, pressing. Express the sensation or pain as it feels to you. Try to explain the whole sensation in the exact way it is happening and not just the word. We need to understand the whole process of the sensation as it is happening to you.

WHAT MAKES YOU WORSE OR BETTER:

Many factors are likely to influence your complaint. Some factors may intensify it and some factors may relieve the trouble. A detailed list of the factors is given at the end. Please refer it while describing each of your troubles and indicate which factors make the complaint better or worse.

DISCHARGES: You may have a discharge from nose, ears, mouth, eyes, ulcers, fistula, eruptions on skin, private parts, etc. Please describe your discharge in detail including colour, consistency, appearance, odour etc.

1] Your Complaint:

(Use your own words as far as possible, but if you have recognized or diagnosed the condition, give this information also.) By answering as many of these questions as fully as possible, you are helping me to understand what your body and unconscious mind is conveying. This can help me find a remedy for you.)
• What is your complaint?
• When did the complaint begin?
• Where is it located?
• What sort of sensations (and emotions) do you associate with it?

• Does anything make it better or worse?
• How does it bother you? How is it coming in way of your day-to-day life?
• How does it feel like to have this/these problem/s?
• What is the effect of this/these problem/s on you?
• Did any event happen which caused the complaint? Describe the emotion associated with it.
• What are the other symptoms started with it, esp. mental and physical symptoms, which are not directly related to the main complaint.
• What are your reactions with it?

PLEASE ANSWER THESE QUESTIONS FOR EACH SYMPTOM/COMPLAINT SEPARATELY. DO NOT INCLUDE ALL OF YOUR COMPLAINTS TOGETHER IN EACH QUESTION.

Hi,

I got home from work very late today and I will respond tomorrow.

Thank you, P.

LOCATION:
All symptoms I am experiencing are caused by a sensation in my throat/airway/trachea?
SENSATION:
It feels like a feather tickling in the back of my throat.
This brings on coughing at first then it escalates into unstoppable hacking cough, then my throat closes up. My throat gets into a spasm and I have to use nebulizer or Ventolin.
Use of the nebulizer or Ventoling is the only thing that will help me to breath.
DISCHARGES:
I spit out a clear liquid and some white foam but when I get infection I cough up string like green mucus.
Two times I have passed out from coughing violently. Once in bed and once on the floor. I have no idea how long it took me to wake up.
COMPLAINTS:
It all started in September 2010 when working on demolition I was exposed to 40 y.old fiberglass, dust, mold and mouse droppings. I've never had any such reaction before as I work on the construction for over 40 years.
I consulted numerous doctors and specialists, had used several different antibiotics and Prednisone. This combination will make it better but it always comes back. No one has ever figured out what I can be allergic to and what triggers it!
When I'm dealing with these symptoms I feel PANIC that sits in my brain. I also feel fear all over the body.
I can't work when I have the infection as I cough and can't breathe.
perhaps at the same time I developed a psoriasis like patch on my left shin, about 3' in diameter. It's worse in the Winter time. I use topically extra virgin raw coconut oil to help with dryness and itching.
MENTAL & EMOTIONAL:
NO emotional and/or mental complaints.
Abandonment would be the worse emotion I would not want to ever deal with. It makes me feel sad, depressed & hurt. I could not function and that was the only thing I could think about.
I have no fears and I am not afraid of anything but I have anxiety feelings when I can't breathe. THe only thing I think of is:'is this it, am I going to die, can it get any worse?'
HOBBIES:
Motorcycle riding, hiking, swimming, fishing, diving, sailing, I love being close to a body of water. I love animals. All these make me feel calm, relaxed.
PERSISTENT THOUGHTS:
Projects that need to be finished around the.....time & money.
UNUSUAL SENSATION:
3 years ago I dropped a sheet of plywood on my left foot. Since then that part of my foot feels numb and tingling. When I touch it it feels like some one elses foot.
8. When i get hurt, upset, frustrated I feel it in the stomach area.
RELATIONSHIPS:
I live far away from my sick elderly mother and my two sisters. I do not see them very often. I am have not spoken to my older sister for many years.
I am content and happy in my current personal relationship. I have select few good close friends. Work relationships are very good.
FIVE POSITIVE:
clever and creative
funny
intelligent/common sense
compassionate/loving
caring
5 NEGATIVES:
judgmental
workaholic
OCD/HDD/ADHD at times
DREAM:
Driving on steep mountain dirt roads, I think I'm going to slide off the road and crash. Often the car is sliding off backwards. I never have injury, always OK. Mostly feel a thrilling sensation, no fear.
As a child I had a dream of a dog chasing me, I was 4 y.o., remember the dream vividly even now. I know exactly when this dream took place.
CHILD:
Adventurous
funny
helpful to my single mother

Grew up in an alcoholic family.
Used to cry when I heard arguments between my mom and her second husband.
My father was killed just before I was born however, til this day I'm not sure who my father is as my older sister put doubts into my head a while ago.
GENERAL:
1.I sleep mostly on my side or my back, don't really care sleeping on my stomach. I sleep with my mouth open and snore when in deep sleep.
I go to sleep easily but wake up after 33 -4 hours of sleep. Them I'm awake for about an hour or two then I go back to sleep until it's time to get up in the morning.
2. I enjoy all different kinds of food. Spicy foods, fresh onions and fresh garlic brings on heartburn. My stomach has always been sensitive.
Hunger makes me feel like a hollow space in my stomach.
THIRST:
I like coffee and teas in he morning to help me wake up. MY favorite drink is orange juice. I also like tomato juice. I really like my water here at home, it's well pH balanced well water, no chemicals, etc.
I feel most thirsty first thing in the morning as I sleep with my mouth open. I sip water before I go to sleep and each time I wake up at night. Usually have a gulp of water upon arising.
STOOL:
No problems passing, usually have 2 bowel movements in the morning. No odor, sometimes floats sometimes not.
URINE:
No problem urinating, no sediment, darker color in the morning.
SWEAT:
I sweat mostly on my face and forehead, especially when working hard and in heat. NO body odor!
SEXUALITY:
Low desire as I don't feel well. No sex. transmitted disease ever.
ENVIRONMENT:
I prefer cooler temperatures over hot. Season's do not affect me

P.S. in general I am always warm even when other are cold
P.S.S. Always had sinus problems- congestion, makes me sleep with my mouth open, brings on headache, I feel pressure in my sinus area.
P.S.S. I am on prednisone right now and second set of strong antibiotics(Doxycycline 100mg/cap). I wake up just about every hour as I cough. I am unable to lay flat in bed and the only way I get through the night is siting up on sofa slightly leaning forward. I cannot lean back as I choke on the liquid that comes up to my throat and makes me cough. This has been going on for the last 4 weeks now.

Thank you for your kindness and time to read this.

Alright, I will look over this information. If I cannot get to it today there may be a delay as I do not have a lot of time over the weekend to spend on forum cases, but I will then continue working on this on Monday.

Evocationer 9 years ago
Hello again Doc,

I wanted to add a couple of things I forgot that might help.

I gag very easily even when I chew very well. I can even choke on rice that I chew up. When I drink when eating rice, the liquid will not go down and my throat seals off like a stopper in a sink. Then I need to spit out all the liquid and any food I have eaten.

Most of my breathing problems, coughing, choking etc all happens in my throat and Adams Apple area. When I am in bed, the tickle in my throat that makes me cough is in that same area. When I get heartburn and stomach acid comes up, I feel it in that same area. When I breathe through my nose, it seems like air is leaking from my stomach to that area. I think there is something wrong with the flap of skin that seals off the breathing from the passage to the stomach ?

Not sure, but all these things go through my head.

Thank you again for you time and knowledge.

Can I ask if that gagging is provoked by anything other than swallowing food or drink?

Evocationer 9 years ago
Yes, it is caused by liquid coming up from my throat and tickling causing the cough. Then the cough gets worse to violent till I use a nebulizer with Albuterol. Last night it happened 4 times.

I get relief when I sit up and lean forward or kneeling on the floor bent over. I get worse in the late afternoon to evening then till sunrise.

I keep a bucket next to the bed and spit the clear/ foamy liquid all night as I cough it up.

Since I got home from work today, I have used the nebulizer 4 times. I use just a little, not a whole vial to calm me down from coughing.

Thank you for all your time and help.

Those are important extra symptoms you have given me.

I have 3 pages of rubrics now for your case, so I am currently organising them and sorting out a structure to decide on a remedy.

Evocationer 9 years ago
Hello again,

Since I am new to Homeopathy, I am learning how important details are. I have given you general symptoms but I should give you more specific things I feel and experience.

This afternoon for example, I coughed a little at lunch time ( did not eat). Then we stopped on the way home for some food and was still okay. I sat down for a few minutes in the house and then suddenly went into a heavy coughing spell and coughed so hard I nearly threw up, but was more like dry heaves. I used the nebulizer with Albuterol till I calmed down. In the past, I have coughed so hard I blacked out and awoke on my floor. I was lucky not to hit my head on any of the furniture.

Now that I have used the antibiotics for two weeks and the Prednisone, I cough up very little green crud from my throat. Now the liquid is clear and as I said before I spit it out every few minutes.

The taste in my mouth is sort of metallic. I do cough the most in the evening and into the the night and early morning. I calm down from about 6 a.m. and on the way to work. I feel better out of the house and in fresh air. I still cough, but less. The sensation just before I cough is like a light pressure in my throat/ airway that feels like helium pushing up my throat. That plus the post nasal drip in the back of my throat starts all the coughing spells. I constantly have to clear my throat which makes me cough again. I also wheeze and have asthma like breathing getting half the air into my lungs. My voice is very hoarse and I have a hard time talking to people on the phone.

It is so strange how I can go from calm and regular breathing to full on coughing and into bronchospasm.

Are there any other details you need ?

Thank you once again for all your time and effort.

Alright this is how I repertorized your case:

Cough, from the sensation of a feather
Cough, hacking
Cough, paroxysmal
Cough, racking
Cough, spasmodic
Cough, suffocative
Cough, violent
Constriction, larynx
Industrious, mania for work
Mouth, open, during sleep
Gagging, during cough
Fear of being forsaken
Dreams of dogs
Obstruction of the throat, worse for swallowing
Spices aggravate
Onions aggravate
Sunset to sunrise aggravates

Of those remedies there are two that I would be inclined to try. One appears in a large number of rubrics, one does not appear in as many but appears in a very important (miasmatic) one.

So, can you obtain both, and we will try them one at a time. Can you obtain Calc 30c and Aur 30c. Try to get them in liquid form if you can. Let me know when you have them.

is it possible, that from doing the demolition on your own
home- which I assume you are still living in??

That you have spread this micro dust all over and it is
being further spread by open windows, air vents, heat vents,
etc. You know when they have asbestos etc in old bldgs,
and schools those particles affect people and they have
to do hazardous waste clean up-

I was wondering if you had the house checked out bc it seems
things are worse in the home.

Evocationer what is Aur 30c-
one of the Aurums?

simone717 9 years ago
Yeah Aur is the short code for Aurum metallicum.

Hello,

We are having a hard time finding liquid tinctures even online. Would pellets dissolved in water and potentized work ?

Today was a really bad day at work. Coughed through out the day and had two spells that freaked me out. Had a hard time getting air in even to use the inhaler, anxiety attack.

Had to use the inhaler many times today and the nebulizer as soon as I got home.
I do not get good relief from it, and still feel like I'm going to cough more.

Before bed I take two Alka Seltzer night time to dry me out and help me sleep. I know it is junk, but I still wake up a few times a night. I need to rest some to be able to work. I am a construction project supervisor and do not stop all day.

So tired of coughing for 3-1/2 years now off and on.

Look forward to your response.

Thank you, P.

Would you please specify which Cal you had in mind.

Thanks, P.

hoodiew 9 years ago
Calc is the standard code for Calcarea carbonicum, the basic Calc salt.

If you cannot get liquid doses, then you can get the dry doses but also obtain a couple of bottle with droppers. Mix water and alcohol into a bottle at a ration of 5:1. Dissolve 3 pellets into this mixture. This will be your dosing bottle.

Each dose will be as follows:

1. hit the bottle 5 times firmly against the palm of the hand.

2. place 3 drops into 100mls of fresh water

3. stir thoroughly

4. take 2 teaspoons into the mouth

5. hold for 20 seconds and swallow

Do this 3 times only, once each day. Then allow for another 2-3 days to pass and report any changes.

You will be starting with Calc carb first.

Just found out:

there is a good possibility I'll have the liquid Cal 30C tomorrow afternoon.
In that case I'd like to ask how to take the remedy in that form.

Thanks much!!!

I think we posted around the same time. See my previous post for instructions on how to take your dose.

Good luck and keep me informed on your progress.
