The ABC Homeopathy Forum

What is homeopathy, Joe Delivra?

Joe, do you typically prescribe remedies based on ailments and disregard the personal elements that make homeopathy what it is? I have used homepathy on myself, my children and a few select others for the past ten years and if there one simple fact that i have learned it is that you can't always use the same remedy for the same ailment. I like to share my sucesses, like you, so that others can learn but not take blindly as fact. You disregard the fact that my asthma is better in humidity I believe this to be a key element. You suggested my friends daughter take Bryonia for migraines but I did not take your advice because it was just too quick. You can not practice homepathy this way, this is not how it works. I don not doubt for a moment that you have helped people, and that is a wonderful thing, but many people on these forums are new to homepathy and take your suggestions as fact. Lets please teach them to look at their whole picture, and then suggest. That is my suggestion, dear.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I was surprised to find that you had repeated your post entitled "Confused in finding Asthma Remedy which I had already replied as per copy below.

As I stated in this post you can consider yourself absolutely free to use any remedy you wish for your Asthma instead of Nat Sulph 6c which I have used very successfully on many patients who were chronic and had suffered from Asthma for over 20 years. The majority of these patients are cured but some have still to use the Nat Sulph instead of their Inhalers and other drugs that they were using. I believe you used this remedy for just a day or two and are questioning me as it has not helped you in this very short time.

I devote my time on this and other forums to help anyone in distress who posts seeking a cure for his/her ailment. It gives me some satisfaction to help cure anyone as I believe that the good God looks after me at my advanced age of 76. I may mention here that Homeopathy is not my profession as I am the CEO of a very old family owned business organization in Sri Lanka.

Re: Confused in finding Asthma Remedy From Joe De Livera on 2005-11-24

I have always maintained that I am not a classical Homeopath. I did not do any formal studies at a university as Homeopathy to me is a science which at first I refused to accept as it seemed to be so illogical but when I was cured of my frequent colds, I decided to do a study of this science about 35 years ago and then decided that I could help those who suffered from various ailments with the small stock of remedies that I had at that time.

Homeopathy is not my profession. It is only a hobby and as a result I have been singled out by many as being able to help them when other qualified homeopaths have failed. I believe that it just the originality that I am gifted with that has enabled me to discover 2 important remedies one for Diabetes --Arnica 30c and the other for Obesity--Nat Phos 6x. As you perhaps are aware, these remedies are not listed in the MM's and Reps currently in use.

It would take too much time to use the classical method exclusively to treat an ailment and I have evidence that the majority of Homeopaths practicing in India and Sri Lanka do not use this classical approach as it takes too much time which I cannot afford as I have my other professional duties to attend to.

I prefer to start treatment of the ailment with a remedy that I have used and know can help but if it does not, I then use Radar software to identify the remedy on the basis of the symptoms.

The great advantage in prescribing on a forum such as the ABC is that there are many consultants who can cross check the remedies prescribed by each other like you have done with the remedy that I have prescribed for Asthma. If one remedy does not help the patient, another can be prescribed but in your case you have only used Nat Sulph 6c in the split dose for just a few days and Asthma is not an ailment that you can possibly cure overnight.

You do not have to use my prescription as you seem to be knowledgeable about Homeopathy yourself and if you feel that the remedies that you have identified can help you and your children, you are free to do so.

All I can say at this stage is that I have helped many chronic Asthmatics and have used Nat Sulph 6c as the default remedy. If it does not help you after at least 2 weeks you can use another remedy that I may be able to indicate after that time.

Hi Joe, you are doing a wonderful job, keep up the good work. I think it is great that we are able to help so many people with homeopathy.

Joe, I would not question your remedy because it did not work immediatly, I question it because it was prescribed in haste, with disregard to the more complete picture. And I see that it is recommended to anyone and everyone along with Arnica for absolutly everything. I beleive you need to encourage people to consider a more complete remedy picture and look deeper into causes when making reccomendations. You are not a homeopath and this has nothing to do with education. It has to do with how you prescribe/reccommend/ and suggest. If your post were worded differntly I would not be quite so bothered, but then again, who am I to tell you anything?

There is little to be gained from questioning Joe de Livera's methods - there are plenty of people who have argued this point with him, publically and privately; his answer is to ignore the questions and condemn the critics for being fuddy-duddies or jeolous of his 'success' and worried about losing their patients. There is no concern for the dubiou gain from practising allopathy using homeopathic medicines, and too many people are too desperate for relief to stop and consider that they are only changing the medium of suppression.
No doubt Joe has real successes - it is inevitable that some cases really will need Arnica or Nat Sulph for CURE rather than removal of symptoms. I wish he had more respect for homeopathy and used some of the time he does 'prescribing' on studying homeopathy.

To Samnbudsmom and Homlee

I have stated my viewpoint in the post above and I am sorry that I cannot spend any more time in justifying my use of the remedies that I prescribe and the methods that I use which as you may know have invariably yielded positive results.

A question that I would like to ask you both is why you do not join me in prescribing the remedies that you consider are better than those that I prescribe on this forum in response to requests for help ?

This forum is available to both patients and those like me who are not qualified but have the experience in the use of Homeopathic remedies and also those who are qualified Homeopaths who rarely visit this forum as by doing so they lose their own revenue which they get from their patients.

It is easy for types like you to stand on the sidelines and criticize instead of helping those with some ailment to overcome it.

I am amazed myself that I have been able to help so many hundreds perhaps even thousands in my own way and I would welcome people like you to also spend some time in helping others with the knowledge that you both obviously have of Homeopathy.

there is nothing wrong with advising remedies on good clinical experience of their success.
you ask above what is homeopathy - is it any easier to answer the question what is allopathy???
Boundaries are fictional and so are all the boxes we put homeopathy in to suit our rigid views of homeopathy.....
I am not putting this in to open a discussion about it, but only to say that as long as homeopathy is advised sensibly, without harm and with the aim to help and hopefully cure then surely this is ok?
If one has a good knowledge of remedies, materia medica and clinical experience with remedies one doesn't always need all the symptoms to advise.

Joe: Not to quibble, but can you really say you "invariably" have positive results?
I work with homeopaths, and one of them does prescribe on these forums and I do not think I can offer any better advice. May be I prescribe to the 'fools rush in where angels fear to tread' theory - with all respect, and not to call you a fool or myself n angel.
To criticize is a valid right. And, for the record, I do feel that you put in a lot of time and energy trying to help people - its just that you seem to be blind to the valid questioning of your methods.
Erica:
I have nothing against prescribing on clinical experience, but I do question throwing out all principles of repertorisation and individualization.
It is a fallacy that hoemopathy can do no harm. Homeopathic medicines can suppress too. The concern people who question Joe have is that by prescribing routinely, he might be driving in symptoms rather than affecting cures, as he believes. Like allopathic suppression, this might not be immediately evident - and may be in some cases might not do any harm - but might cause problems in the future.
I stand by my right to voice my opinion.

My close friend called me last night saying she was suffering from laryngitis following a cold. I spent a couple of minutes on the phone with her, threw a few remedies in my bag and went to see her. After spending about a half hour talking about what was wrong I was still torn between two remedies until she said to me "What was that remedy you gave me the last time I had a sinus infection? It made my sinuses clear and my acne went away." And so, even though it wasn't my first choice, my friend took Kali Bich for larygitis and called this morning feeling and sounding much improved. I don't need to explain my point, I'm sure, But just for fun, A remedy doesn't have to be constitutional to be yours. How can you take away the chance from someone seeking help that they may find their remedy? I knows Joe, that you have found yours, and I am very happy for you.

I would be the last person to prevent you from criticizing me if this gives you some vicarious pleasure in doing so. After all this is a public forum and I cannot possibly prevent you from exercising, what you term is your right.

I addressed my last post to you and another who first posted a problem on this forum pertaining to Asthma which her child was suffering from. She expected the remedy that I prescribed to work within 2 or 3 days and to cure this case which usually takes about 2 weeks before some relief could be expected. In her case I was quite surprised that she criticized my prescription and later questioned the method that I use to prescribe this remedy. I presume that this is her way of expressing gratitude to me for the free prescription I gave her for her child, which has worked in about 90 % of the cases of Asthma that I have used it for. In the case of this ailment, I use Nat Sulph as the default remedy but if after 2 weeks the patient does not experience any relief, I then proceed to use other remedies for this ailment.

You may be interested to learn that I have helped about 50 patients who were suffering from chronic Asthma for years who are now either fully cured or have still to depend on a daily dose of Nat Sulph to avoid going back to their inhalers which in 2 cases was 4 puffs from 2 brands of inhalers daily. These 2 cases have to use this remedy daily but the majority of cases can be considered fully cured as they do not use the remedy any more. You may like to know that I am achieving some notoriety here in Sri Lanka as one who can cure this ailment which is quite common here and I have many patients who come to me for assistance which I dispense free of charge with the remedy which must be used in the Split Dose in 500ml spring water which I purchase from the only source here that gets its water from deep bore wells.

I am glad that Erika who is a qualified homeopathy supported my attitude to Homeopathy as she and many other homeopaths have discovered that it is just not feasible to prescribe a remedy on the classical method of diagnosis and treatment alone which all homeopaths who have attended a degree course have been brainwashed into believing that it is the sine qua non for homeopathic prescription. In my case I must admit that although I had read about this classical method during my studies, I soon discovered that it was not essential for ailments like Asthma which are almost always helped by my default remedy. If I have a difficult case however, I use Radar 9.1 and this gives me information about alternate remedies based on repertorisation and individualization method that you refered to. It is rarely however that I have to use this software for prescribing on the forums as it is essential that the patient is present to fill up the full questionnaire for Radar.

You have voiced the fear that my method may tend to suppress the ailment instead of curing it but this has never been any concern to me as the remedies that I have used to treat an ailment have invariably resulted in a cure. There is also no way that I can compel the patient to use my prescription only as he/she is free to use any alternative remedies that are prescribed by other homeopaths like the qualified person whom you referred to. In the unlikely event of an ailment being suppressed, I would expect the patient to post the response to the remedy I had prescribed and this can then be dealt with immediately. As I stated before, this has never occurred in all the cases that I have dealt with.

In defending my position in Homeopathy, I would like to place on record for the umpteenth time that Homeopathy must not be regarded as a religion which has strict rules which must be followed by those who practice it, especially for a fee, which as you now know, I do not charge. It gives me some personal satisfaction to help anyone who suffers from any ailment and I do not see any reason for me to change my attitude and the method that I use to identify the remedy merely because you and your friend prefer to stand on the sidelines and voice your criticism. I hope you understand that I have to spend my valuable time which I can better spend on my own professional duties or in helping those who seek my assistance on this forum, instead of having to defend my Homeopathic attitude as I am doing now, to prove to you and others that it is not essential to have a diploma and only to use the classical method to help anyone, especially on a forum such as this.

I do hope that you and others will accept that my presence on this and other forums is a labour of love which I prefer to extend to anyone in distress, free of charge

I do hope that you will accept my invitation and actively participate in helping those who post their ailments on this forum in the hope of getting some advice instead of using your right to criticize which to you seems more relevant than the main purpose of this forum, which is to help those in distress.

I would like to copy another post which I made on another forum which may be of interest :

I have been criticized by a few 'classical' homeopaths as I do not usually follow the 'classical' methods in identifying a remedy in treating a patient. I have detailed my own attitude to Homeopathy in my first post on this forum entitled "Introducing Myself " and I do not think that any additional information is necessary.

The questions posed by Cyber Homeopath are to my mind largely theoretical and designed to question my own interpretation of Homeopathy and the manner that I have used it for 30 years to help those who have sought my assistance. I have no objection to those who have been indoctrinated into the classical method using only their classical method to help patients but I would like them to also consider that this classical method is not essential to cure an ailment as long as the prescriber is aware of the impact that his remedy can have on the patient . My method of selection of a remedy is more allopathic than homeopathic in its methodology and some have classified it as a " This for That " method. The point that I wish to make is that my method is also equally effective in curing the ailment of the patient and is far less time consuming in its identification. I am reliably informed that my method is also true in the case of Homeopaths in India and in Sri Lanka and perhaps in Pakistan some of whom are consulted by over 100 patients daily and who could not possibly resort to the classical method of diagnosis even with the assistance of homeopathic software which usually takes even a longer time than this 'classical method'.

I tend to use remedies based upon the reaction of a previous patient to a particular remedy which was given for a specific ailment. In the case of the MD who first alerted me to the potential of Arnica to help cure Diabetes and to whom I had given Arnica 30c for his wound in his toe, it was indeed a big surprise to me when he informed me that his Blood sugar level had dropped on the second day in a manner that had never occurred before. He refused to use Arnica any more in spite of my pleas that he continues to do so and to cut down on his Insulin which he used to inject himself 4 times daily. I believe that it was the insulin that was the cause of his kidney failure to which he succumbed about 2 months ago. It is very likely that he would have been alive even today if he had stopped the Insulin or at least reduced his intake and replaced it with Arnica as many others are now doing.

I believe that it is my own philosophy of life and the originality that I have been born with that has enabled me in my life to do what many others would not do in perhaps 3 lifetimes. I have in a previous post mentioned a few of my other achievements in life and I do not wish to bore readers with details as this is largely irrelevant here. What I wish to state however is that I seem to be blessed with a keen sense of observation which has helped me throughout my life and especially in Homeopathy where it is essential to observe the reaction of a patient to a remedy even though his successful response has never been recorded before in any text.

In the case of this Diabetic patient I was indeed disappointed that he had stopped Arnica but I used it after due warning to the next patient who happened to be a member of my staff and he was delighted to use only the Arnica/Cinnamon combo and soon stopped his dependence on Metformin which he had been using for 10 years. Similar tests were carried out with other patients and I passed this information to qualified homeopaths in India who all reported the same results with Arnica in helping to lower the dependence on the drugs used for the control of Diabetes. They also reported that with the addition of Cinnamon, the dependence on drugs was severed in many cases. They have also reported that the action of the Arnica 30c seemed to be better when used in the water dose twice daily where the mode of preparation was by dropping 1 drop of the remedy or 3 globules into a 500ml bottle of spring water which was succussed prior to sipping a teaspoonful twice daily. The Cinnamon powder was added to food and the dosage recommended is 1/4 teaspoonful taken twice daily.

Another case in point is my discovery of Nat Phos 6x for Obesity. This too was another serendipitous discovery as I had given it to an obese man to help with his GERD and he reported to me a few weeks later that he had lost about 3 kg. This alerted me to this most interesting aspect of Nat Phos which had never been recorded up to last November 2004, and I used it again on some members of our staff who were willing guinea pigs with remarkable success. It was after many tests that I decided to share this information with other homeopaths last Christmas Day. This remedy is now acknowledged to be the Ultimate remedy for reducing weight and is also perhaps the safest to be used for this purpose.

I have detailed other ailments that I have helped with Arnica with the potencies that I have used in my post above. I hope that this information can be of use to others who may like to use this remedy for the ailments that I have listed which in most instances are not listed in the classical texts. I do hope that the fact that the ailments that I have listed are not covered in the classical texts will not be a reason for others not to use them as at least I have done so with success and in most instances other homeopaths both here in Sri Lanka and abroad have used them with similar results.

I believe that it is through this process of recording the reactions of patients to various remedies that Homeopathy can move forward and it is only a pity that some on this forum prefer to be contrary and to use bullying tactics which are far removed from the point being discussed as it perhaps suits their own ends, which to me are not understood.

As I stated in my post above I shall always welcome and reply to any positive discussion on the various use of this amazing remedy Arnica which I have used in a manner never done before. I request other homeopaths to also shed aside their prejudices and to use it in the manner that I have done and record their results, good or bad on this forum.
