Earwax

My husband (his brother, which makes me wonder if it's genetic) and two of our children, have an overwhelming amount of earwax. At times it actually leaves them almost deaf in whatever ear swells with wax: there is no known pattern of the wax alternating sides but my husband says that they don't ooze wax at the same time and its not always as bad. Yet, the amount of 'as bad' (described in the last sentence) is still far beyond what I would consider three standard deviations from normal. The ear fills over a number of days but as it does he says he hears ringing almost constantly. Other symptoms include, itchy ears, hard clumps of dark colored wax is among the soft, slightly sticky bright orange wax. I am trying to think of other related symptoms; would sweating profusely even when he's not active be related? He also constantly suffers from bad breathe and is slightly overweight in his gut area despite our almost daily trips to the gym. They children don't seem to have as severe of an infliction but do have an enormous amount of earwax.
