The ABC Homeopathy Forum

how does joeapathy work?

I am just wondering about something. How does Joe DeLivera get away with what he does? If homeopathy is an individualized way of healing, as each remedy fits a certain type of person, how can he have these treatments and boast that they work??? I have just had the displeasure trying to work under his guidance. When I posted a reply that his treatment wasn't working he dropped my case. Interesting right? He seems to be making a mockery of homeopathy. Any views please?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I agree with you. I have been a constant and vocal opponent of his methods for many years. I cannot answer how he gets away with it.

Evocationer 9 years ago
Ill tell you how. He just deleted all my posts that asked him pertinent questions as to my condition. He referred me to a specialist and even though he is not a doctor he states my condition is highly unusual. Not the case at all. I am just a 55 year old woman who desperately needed some help with menopause troubles. I actually feel worse from his therapy, but he took that post down too. He should be banned from posting on your site. I am very upset.

I can only say that he does not represent the true face of homoeopathy. Mr De Livera works as allopathic practitioners do - prescribing the same medicines on the basis of the name of the condition, rather than the symptoms. This is something homoeopathy has proved for centuries does not work to produce genuine cure.

I have made extensive arguments against his method here, and requested he defend it (by way of a debate). That has never happened. What has happened instead has been very unpleasant for me personally.

Evocationer 9 years ago
I can understand How it must have been unpleasant. Would you be able to help me with incontinence and acid reflux? Or refer me to the right Homeopath? I feel like giving up after what happened with him today and that is not going to help me. My gut was not to go along with him at all, when he did not ask me any questions, but I am desperate for help.

I am hoping you will take my case Evocationer. I see that you are a qualified homeopath and I would be most appreciative if you would take my case. I have not had any luck with this site so far. It seems there are alot of people on it who should not be prescribing remedies until they are qualified to do so. I am sure you are very busy, but I would really appreciate your help.

cingav 9 years ago
I will post my guidelines for giving your case. I am currently in the process of updating and streamlining these questions, but you will be getting most of the old one. The instructions given initially are the updated ones though.

It is a lot of questions. In clinic I don't necessarily ask all these - I allow the conversation to progress more naturally, following the different cues that a patient gives. This is more artificial but I have to try and cover areas that might produces valuable clues.

Also, it is important to understand that this is actually a pretty difficult medium to do good healing work. It can be done, but does take more work on both sides and more time (with all the posting back and forth).

CASE PRESENTATION FOR CLASSICAL HOMOEOPATHIC PRESCRIBING

General Guidelines:

1. Try to be as descriptive as possible. When describing pains or sensations use descriptions along the lines of ‘feels as if someone is squeezing it with their hand’ or ‘it is like an insect crawling around inside’ or ‘it is as if someone is standing over me threatening to kill me’. Long descriptions are always better than short ones. One word answers are difficult to use successfully.

2. Another important part of symptom description for homoeopathy are the ‘modalities’. These are situations, events, activities or conditions which modify the symptom in some way. We usually refer to this as what makes them ‘better’ or ‘worse’ (amelioration/aggravation). The situation may actually provoke the symptom into appearing, make it vanish altogether, or just increase or decrease it in some way. Modalities are vital information for prescribing.

Modalities are typically related to (but not exclusively) the following situations:

A. Temperature, weather
B. Time (day, night, specific times, frequency, periodicity, season)
C. Position, activity
D. Emotions, thoughts
E. Food and drink
F. Drugs, medication

3. How the symptom is perceived is important too – odour, appearance, sound, touch. What colour is it, what is its texture? For gestures, describe what it looks like the patient is doing, or what you feel you are doing while making the movement eg. ‘they look like they are swatting flies’ or ‘I feel like something is pushing my hand upwards’ or ‘it is like I stick a fork in an electrical outlet which throws my body backwards’. Description – it is key to accurate prescriptions.

4. When did the symptom or set of symptoms start? The apparent cause can be useful in determining the remedy, although it is not of the same importance as the previous factors. It may have been a specific event, a disease, an accident or even an emotional experience.

5. Use your own words. Do not copy phrases or descriptions found in our various remedy pictures. Try not to use other people’s ideas or thoughts or words. If you are reporting on behalf of someone else, report their exact words, however you can also report your own observations of them (not opinions).

6. Does the symptom occur alongside another specific symptom? Do particular symptoms only occur together? Does a particular symptom occur with a particular thought or emotion? For example, a headache that always comes with visual disturbances, or stomach pain that appears alongside anger, or anxiety that makes you feel like running down the street screaming.

7. Each complaint should be described fully before going on to describe another complaint. Try not to mix different symptoms or complaints together. Each modifying feature must be clearly attached to a particular symptom/set of symptoms. Any mistake you make here is a mistake the homoeopath will also then make.

MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL DESCRIPTION

(Please spend the most time on this section and give DETAILED answers - the homoeopathic remedy is very often decided on the basis of the mental and emotional state of the patient !)

1. What are the issues in your life that bother you the most. Not physical issues but mental or emotional ones. List each one separately and describe why each one bothers you so much.

2. What emotions are the most troublesome for you? What situations provoke these emotions. How do these emotions make you act? Do you feel any ill effects from expressing or not expressing these emotions.

3. What incidents in your life have had a deep impact on you? Describe each incident in detail and how they made you feel? What did you do in those situations? What effect have they had on your life?

4. What are you afraid of? Especially important are phobias, but it might be objects, situations or events that just produce a high level of anxiety. How do you manage your fears? How do you react when confronted with these fears? What would be the worst situation for you to be put in that would provoke these fears? You may need to talk about each fear/anxiety separately.

5. What hobbies do you have? Why do you like each of these activities?

6. Do you have any persistent thoughts, ideas or beliefs that are difficult to stop or cope with? What are they?

7. Do you have any unusual gestures or movements of the body? Do you feel any unusual sensation or pain throughout your body? What exactly does it feel like is happening in your body?

8. When you experience your fears, persistent thoughts, or difficult emotions, what kind of sensation or reactions do you get in your body?

9. When did you feel at your best in your life? What was that like for you? If you imagine the complete opposite of this feeling or moment, what would that be like?

10. Do you feel like you are stuck in a pattern of behavior, especially when trying to deal with your problems? What is this pattern? THIS IS AN IMPORTANT QUESTION PLEASE CONSIDER CAREFULLY AND GIVE DETAILS.

11. What difficulties or problems do you have in relationships? Talk about your family, your romantic relationships, your spouse or partner, your friends, and your work colleagues. You may need to talk about all of these separately.

12. List 5 positive things about yourself. Are there any situations where this positive attribute becomes negative (is a problem)?

13. List 5 negative things about yourself. Are there any situations where this negative attribute becomes positive (is useful)?

14. Do you have any reoccurring dreams? Describe them in detail, including any feelings that come while dreaming. Dreams are very important in unlocking the deepest truth of a patient’s case, but it is not enough to simply describe them in a sentence. Give as much information as you feel comfortable doing.

15. Did you have any reoccurring dreams as a child, or earlier in your life? Describe those in detail including any feelings that came with them.

16. What were you like as a child, your character, your personality, your fears, your dreams, your problems?

17. What kind of environment did you grow up in? What problems where there at home, with your family, with your parents, with your siblings, with school?

I am a 55 year old female. I have two main problems that are making my life very difficult. The first is urinary incontinence. I have had two children by natural childbirth. I am sure I am starting to go through menopause, but I am still menstruating. I have experienced hot flashes, I have insomnia often. I am still getting my period like clockwork every 28-32 days. I have always, since the birth of my children, had a slight issue with incontinence. An occasional leak due to a sudden sneeze or if I coughed too hard. Just over the last few months, this issue has gotten much worse. I am forced to wear a pad. I am up a few times at night to urinate. I feel that I have no control over the urine flow. If I try hard to push it out I can make it surge, but I never completely empty my bladder. It kind of just falls out. I sit for a long time to make sure I empty my bladder, but I never am able. It dribbles out. The problem seems to be worse at night. I am trying to do Kegel exercises. I try to stop the flow, usually to no avail. I seem to have no control. I urinate many many times during the day. Small amounts. I can be out for a long time and resist the urge to go to the bathroom, so it's not that I can't hold it, but I know from the pad at the end of the day, that the urine is dribbling out. Sometimes when I am sitting I can feel it dribbling into the pad. I am sure being overweight is not helping. There is no pain or burning. The urine is dark yellow in the morning, but clear thereafter.

The second problem I am having has been going on for many years now. I would say for the last five years. I have very bad acid reflux. I am sure I could have aggravated my digestive system. I was having family troubles and was drinking two big glasses of red wine every night. I knew I was aggravating my system, but I did not stop. I have very bad gurgling in my throat all day. The nat phos 6x that Joe had me take three times a day seemed to make it worse. I have been burping more. The acid reflux is very bad at night when I sleep. I know for a fact that the acid comes up into my throat because when I get up during the night if i gargle it is in my throat. For instance, one night after eating salsa, when I gargled during the night I spit out a reddish acid from my throat. Some nights, if I fall asleep in front of the television, sitting up, it comes up into my throat. I know from the acidic smell that comes out of my mouth. I know because my daughter will ask me why I smell so bad. When I wake up in the morning my mouth feels dry, but i know I have had discharge from my mouth because my pillow is always wet. My face always has a caked on feeling. Sometimes my eyes feel like they have had discharge. It is really disgusting. I often brush my teeth during the night, only to wake up with the dry mouth again. I am to the point that I dread going to sleep.

A third issue that I am having is a very bad headache at the end of my monthly cycle. It is debilitating. I live on Motrin for three days every cycle. This is not good for me because the Motrin makes the acid reflux worse. The pain starts behind my eyes. Even with the Motrin in a high dose (3 pills), instead of the dose, which is 2, the headache stays behind my eyes in a dull ache. It makes it hard to function. I am miserable during the headache days and dread the onset of my period. I have not escaped the headache for months now. I would say it coincides with the urinary incontinence, so I am thinking it has something to do with the onset of menopause.

MENTAL AND EMOTIONAL DESCRIPTION

1. Issues in your life that bother you the most.

My sister is the cause of much grief in my life. She always has been, but the situation escalated about five years ago. She is always competing with me and has taught her children to compete with mine. She is jealous that I am very close with our mother and my children are very close with her as well. She hates my mother and has not had her children grow up with a close relationship with their grandmother. She has always done very mean things to me. For instance, when she got married. She was pregnant when she got married because she was jealous that I had just had the first grandchild. My daughter was 8 months old at the time of her wedding and she was not allowed to be at the shower or the wedding. My sister made it clear that she did not want the extended family meeting my daughter because it would take the attention off her! I was in her wedding party, but my baby had to be with a nanny during the wedding locked away in the hotel so noone would see her. She has always done mean things like that to me, but the situation escalated five years ago when she was mean to my two children and let her husband disrespect my parents. Her and her husband were so cruel not only to my parents, but to my children. They have since never apologized. They have caused much hurt. Her children have purposely hurt my children through social media. Very bad situation. It was made worse last Christmas because my mother needed her family back together again so included them for the holiday. They had to apologize to noone! Of course it didnt work out. They came looking to cause trouble and did. We have had family meetings about it. My sister will not get her husband ( who has spit at not only my children, but my mother too)to apologize. She is clearly not sorry for her behavior. It goes on and on. Her wedding was 20 years ago. She did not attend my sons graduation party, my daughters graduation from college etc. Again this year my mother will try to have them for the holidays so we can be the perfect family. She (my mom) , feels my sister is mentally ill and hates what she is doing to me and my family, but will still have her for the holidays. I resent my mother for not being stronger. She says she has to have my sisters family so she can see her grandchildren. Only she doesn't even know them because my sister never let us know them. So this is what bothers me constantly. I am one of three sisters. My troubled sister is the middle child. I am the one who is taking care of my elderly parents now and neither of them have the backbone to do whats right. To tell my sister that she can't treat me or my family like that. They didn't do it at the wedding and they have never since. I can't stand the fact that she was allowed to deeply hurt my children.. So for this I resent my mother. Its a sad situation that will never change.

2. Another issue is my husband He has always been a drinker. He functions and goes to work, does well, but he drinks beer. It was excessive for much of my childrens growing up. Something must have recently scared him and to the world and me he is not drinking at all. Except I know that he is still drinking. Thankfully not like before, but still. Behind my back. So he is lying to me. I hate that. I can't trust him.

2.What emotions are the most troublesome for you? What situations provoke these emotions. How do these emotions make you act? Do you feel any ill effects from expressing or not expressing these emotions.

Anger is a hard emotion for me. I take everything personally. I react too quickly and lose my temper easily.

3. What incidents in your life have had a deep impact on you? Describe each incident in detail and how they made you feel? What did you do in those situations? What effect have they had on your life?

My sisters wedding had a deep impact on my life. My parents should have never let my sister do what she did to me because she was jealous that I had a baby. My sister has just somewhat apologized. 20 years later. Too late. She has caused much grief since. As I look back it bothers me because my parents have let my sister continue to hurt me and most recently my two children. I should have been stronger at the wedding and not let her do what she did to me and my husband with our new baby. I would never let it happen now. I tried to remove her from my life, but my parents are making me choose. I cant hurt them so I will put my family in what will be a bad situation again this holiday.

I am afraid of spiders. i cannot kill them or even look at them. I am afraid of dying. I am afraid of not being around for my kids.

5.. What hobbies do you have? Why do you like each of these activities?

I love to garden. Do weeding. Make gardens. Play in the dirt. I love to cut the lawn. I have two dogs. I love to take long walks with them.

6. Do you have any persistent thoughts, ideas or beliefs that are difficult to stop or cope with? What are they?

yes. I constantly am worried that the acid reflux is going to make me sick. Throat ailments or brain ailemnts etc.

7. Do you have any unusual gestures or movements of the body? Do you feel any unusual sensation or pain throughout your body? What exactly does it feel like is happening in your body?

My right foot turns in when I walk. My daughter has the same thing. The tops of my hands and my feet always ache.

8.When you experience your fears, persistent thoughts, or difficult emotions, what kind of sensation or reactions do you get in your body?
I feel panicked alot. Lately i feel hopeless because nothing seems to be getting better.

9.When did you feel at your best in your life? What was that like for you? If you imagine the complete opposite of this feeling or moment, what would that be like?
I guess when I got married. I had no worries. Life was fun and carefree. My life now is the complete opposite. I have a son, who has a serious illness. It is not life threatening, but it makes his life difficult and I am trying to help him with it. I worry constantly about him. I worry about my daughter, who is trying to find her way. And I worry about my parents who are getting older. I had no worries back then.

11.What difficulties or problems do you have in relationships? Talk about your family, your romantic relationships, your spouse or partner, your friends, and your work colleagues. You may need to talk about all of these separately.

I have major trust issues. My husband's drinking has caused this i'm sure and his lying about it. I don't have any close friends. Not because i wouldn't. My mom is my best friend and has been since I married. We used to all hang out together. Nice relationship. My daughter and I are very close. She does not have much of a life now at 22 and I feel bad for her. She was bullied in school. We even moved to switch schools. It continued. She is a very strong and successful person now though but college friends moved back home after graduation and shes stuck with me right now. She has trust issues also. I am close with my son, who is 20 and in college. My mother is a little overbearing. We worked together in a family real estate business before children. I worked as a teacher, while my kids were growing up. At the private school they attended. Im back in realestate with Mom now. She is very successful and controlling about it. I let her be. I help her, but don't feel I am working to my capacity. I won't compete with her. Its her business and I just go along with it. I make money but she controls everything. Doesn't make me feel good about myself. But I do it because I love her.

12.List 5 positive things about yourself. Are there any situations where this positive attribute becomes negative (is a problem)?

Compassionate
Intelligent
Headstrong ( I should have been a lawyer. I can defend myself. I can argue a point effectively. I can build a case ) I can be very stubborn.
patient
Hardworking

13.List 5 negative things about yourself. Are there any situations where this negative attribute becomes positive (is useful)?

Not trusting
overweight
procrastinator
I worry about everything!
indecisive

14.Do you have any reoccurring dreams? Describe them in detail, including any feelings that come while dreaming. Dreams are very important in unlocking the deepest truth of a patient’s case, but it is not enough to simply describe them in a sentence. Give as much information as you feel comfortable doing.

I do dream occasionally, but nothing I can remember

15.Did you have any reoccurring dreams as a child, or earlier in your life? Describe those in detail including any feelings that came with them.
Yes. I had a weird one. I was in a room with a giant ball. The ball was as big as the room and there was hardly any room for me.I also had a dream about a dump truck dumping dirt on a flower. These were recurring. I was very shy as a child and very insecure. I am not like that now.

16.What were you like as a child, your character, your personality, your fears, your dreams, your problems?
I was a shy insecure child. I was very bright and did well in school and college, but it was very stressful for me. I think I could have had some form of ADHD because getting my work done was always stressful even though I accomplished it in the end. I find that now I start many projects, but it takes a long time to finish them. I started two pillows in September, I haven't finished them. I took our antique end table apart, but I haven't painted it yet. Ill eventually finish though. I thought I would join the peace corps. I envisioned a life helping people.

17. What kind of environment did you grow up in? What problems where there at home, with your family, with your parents, with your siblings, with school?
I grew up travelling because my father worked for an airline. My parents fought alot even when we were on vacation. My father was abusive to my mother. He probably drank too much. I was always the outcast of the three sisters. I always took care of them and made sure they werent doing bad things etc. Even when I was first married i checked in on them every night. School was good. I was smart and had alot of friends.

GENERAL SYSMPTOMS

1.SLEEP

I sleep on my right side most comfortably, but usually end up on my left. I sleep with my hand under the pillow. I wake frequently to go to the bathroom

2.APPETITE

I love hot spicy food. I also crave salty. I love all kinds of potatoes. I have an aversion to raw foods, especially fish. Lately all foods cause the reflux. It is constant. Tomatoes and avocadoes make it worse.

Fasting is hard for me. I eat all day long.

3.THIRST

I love cold water to quench my thirst. I love cold milk, but don't usually drink it because it causes bloat and stomach cramps sometimes. I am most thirsty at night.

4. STOOL

No trouble. On the Joepathy when I was taking the nat phos 6x it was full and long all at once. Weird for me. Usually small pieces. Odor seems normal

5.URINE

no debris. It is dark yellow in the morning and then light thereafter. The odor is pungent in the pad at the end of the day.

6.SWEAT

My sweat is the most under the armpits and under my chest. It does not stain and the smell seems normal

7.SEXUALITY

Low desire now because of the incontinence problem.. I did not tell my husband about it. Im also overweight. That doesn't help No history of disease or problems.

8.MENSES

Lasts for about 8 days with the flow very heavy for the first three. Starts brown in color and then is red with many clots. Cramping during. The night before the flow I do not sleep at all. Halfway through my monthly cycle I have clear discharge. Right after I get the bad headache I described above.

9.ENVIRONMENT

I like cooler weather better than hot. Heat and humidity really bothers me. I like to sleep in a cold room and even open the window in the winter. I feel better in cool crisp weather. I love the fall the best.

I hope I have answered with enough detail.. Please ask me anything if you think it will help. Thank you so much for taking the time to do this! It is much appreciated Dr. Evocationer!

I hope you received my questionnaire and do not require ay further information. Let me know.

Hi Cingav,

I am following your thread here for learning. Evocationer has a lot of cases
on here, he will get back to you. You can always just post 'bump up' on
your thread and it will move it to the top of the forum and be seen
easier if you are waiting for a response. Fyi on Mr. DeLivera, he is 85 years
old and has recently stated he is retiring from this forum.

On the acid reflux, I would suggest ( non remedy advice) that you go thru
your diet and eliminate all acidic things for now. Stop eating around
8 pm- I know people who had terrible acid reflux and it was due to eating
chocolate every night before bed- when they stopped that the reflux was
gone. You have over-acidified yourself. Also get yourself a good probiotic-
one with a lot of strains-If you have Whole Foods a good one is Bio-k-
expensive but worth it to start off with- or just get the Acidophilus liquid-
This will help the gut flora increase and your digestion will be better.
People have to experiment with probiotic brands bc they have very
individual reactions to them.

Regards,

Simone

Thanks simone717. I will try that in the meantime. I will be patient. I was just worried that my answers did not go through. As for Joe DeLivera - he deleted my posts that tried to explain to him that his remedy had the opposite effect on me. I actually gained weight and felt bloated. Can you imagine he deletes posts that don't prove him right? I don't care how old he is. His answers seem prefabricated. Probably a relative trying to keep him famous. But to delete things that don't go his way. I think he is despicable and a fraud. Too bad he can't be stopped. Anyway I am thankful to have someone who is qualified willing to help me. Thank you for your kind advice.

I will be working on your case today. As I spend time analysing, translating and interpreting the symptoms, I may only have the chance to do a couple of cases each day.

Evocationer 9 years ago
I understand completely and thank you.

cingav 9 years ago
Ok I spent a lot of time pouring over this today. There are a fair few symptoms here. I ended up repertorizing 24 symptoms, which brought up a variety of remedies as possible solutions to your problems.

Sepia and Pulsatilla scored best, but I didn't feel the kind of mental/emotional state you described suited either. Next in the list was Calc, Sulph and Phos. Again, I didn't feel the mental state was particularly close to any seen in those remedies. Then followed Nat-mur, Caust, and Bryonia. Of those, I felt Nat-mur probably was the best fit mentally. Last on that list was Mercurius. I actually liked the idea of this remedy best of all, but looking around at the whole case, I really do think Nat-mur might be the best way to open the case.

Can you obtain Nat-mur 30c, preferably in liquid form (oral dosing liquid).

If you instead have pillules or pellets, you will need a small bottle and a dropper to make your own liquid dose. Mix water and alcohol into this small bottle to the ratio of 5:1. Dissolve 3 pillules/pellets into this bottle. All doses will be made from this bottle.

If you already have a liquid dose just start from step 1.

1. Hit the bottle 5 times firmly against the palm of the hand

2. Place 3 drops into 100mls of clean fresh water

3. Stir very thoroughly

4. Take 2 teaspoons out into the mouth and hold for 20 seconds, then swallow.

This is one dose and the same steps should be taken for any further doses, unless I ask you to change them in some way.

If any old symptoms reappear, or any current symptoms worsen, this is a GOOD sign in most cases. DO NOT SUPPRESS them with other kinds of medication unless you are in real danger (which is a highly unlikely reaction to a remedy).

However, if you are on regular medication it is also important that you do NOT stop taking this. Once it is determined the medicine has acted beneficially, we can look at reducing such medication if safe to do so.

Take one dose each day for no more than 3 days.

Thank you. I think I can get the pellet form today locally. I will prepare it as you instructed and let you know what happens.

Hello Evocationer -

I just wanted to give you an update. I finished the third dose on Sunday evening, so 48 hours ago. Yesterday I felt a little weepy and it seems, although I am not entirely sure, that the incontinence is worse than before. I am due for my monthly period any day now, so the weepiness could be from that. Should I wait this out?

cingav 9 years ago
That sounds like it could be the homoeopathic aggravation. It seems reasonably mild too which is a good sign. Wait for the time being, and let me know how you are after your period.

Thank you.

Hello Evocationer -

My period is finished for a couple of days now. I purposefully waited to make sure I was right in thinking that nothing has changed. I even got the awful headache today that I usually get after my period. I guess I was wrong that it had worsened. What do you think should be the next step?

First step is to repeat the Nat-mur. Do it as before with the following changes:

1. hit the bottle 10 times

2. place 3 drops into 50mls of water

3. take out 3 teaspoons.

Thank you. I will try that tonight and if I understand correctly take a dose each day for three days?

Yes, that's right.

I want to make sure we haven't simply missed giving enough doses or strong enough doses before moving on to a new remedy, as it can be quite difficult going back to a remedy that looked like it didn't work.
