The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Thyroid Problems and Yeast Infection

Hi. I have a yeast infection in my sinus, eye socket and brain. Combination of Cryptococcus Neoformans and Candida. I believe it started with a root canal, that I recently had removed.

Symptoms:
eye pain, left eye
food sensitivities: pain in eye after eating starches
itchy pink rash on right arm
left sided headaches
left sided neck pain
left earache and jaw pain
foot pain while walking or running
foot pain when I wake up
loss of motivation
loss of creativity
brain fog
became reclusive and don't want to see people
I typed in all of my symptoms in the ABC chart and it gave Sulphur a 32%- highest match for symptoms. However, my personality is much closer to Sepia. I also took a quiz online that told me I am Arsenicum album, Pulsatilla, and Lycopodium. However, on the ABC chart Sulphur is a 32%, Pulsatilla is 24% and Sepia is 27% for matching my symptoms. So my question is, should I take the Sulphur that best matches my symptoms, or take Sepia or Pulsatilla that also match some of my symptoms because they are a closer match for my personality? Sepia is pretty spot on, because I am a natural dancer and super creative.

Gender: Female
Age: 35
Body Type: slender, white, brunette, ballet dancer/ runner, clear skin- no acne or freckles, oval face with delicate features
Height: 5'5'
Weight: 120

THANKS......

Thanks so much for taking my case. I’ve been suffering from this terrible undiagnosed illness for a year now and it is ruining my life. Have seen every kind of practitioner that I knew existed and spent all my money on trying to get better but have not had any progress.

1. Age,sex, weight, body and face appearance, country, occupation.
ANS.
Female, white, 35, 5’5”
Body type: long, thin, narrow hips, ballet type body but trim and low body fat.
Face, delicate with a defined jaw, brown eyes, brunette. Soft delicate features, clear skin, symmetrical from the outside, although have a deviated septum to the left, not visible from the outside. Look a lot like Katherine Hepburn
Live in Austin, TX USA
Occupation: I am an entrepreneur with a startup cosmetic line that is very popular locally.
Also sing in a band locally, perform at local clubs, write all my own songs, also artist – show and sell paintings. I don’t currently make a living because although I have sales, I’m spending all the money on the business. I house sit and live off a small amount of savings, hoping to cash flow before I run out of money.

2. Main complaints and other associated troubles.
Current Symptoms:
Left eye pain and swelling- Pain is in lower eye bag on left side, and inside sinus where the lachrymal duct runs. The duct was flushed out but it still hurts.
Lump on head, left side along the nerve line of the eye socket. When I touch the lump I feel it in my eye towards the back.
Pain shooting down left neck and back, pain where neck meets head, crevice left side
Neck feels better with massage, stretching, heat and exercise, especially if I sweat, like running or hot yoga
Tickle feeling then burning and pain in left Lachrimal tear duct- is aggravated when I eat starches or sugar, but it always hurts
I had a root canal removed in August but did not feel any better afterwards
jaw pain- aching, better with massage
ear pain- aching, hurts to lie on left side of face
eye bag- purple, puffy, left side
dizzy in elevators
vertigo- random
Extreme allergy to mold developed in the last year- makes me feel delirious and dull. No sinus drainage or congestion ever
foot pain- pain when the systemic infection ‘acts up’, especially while running
muscle fatigue while exerting
head rushes when I stand up
lungs feel tired and can’t run as easily as I used to, due to strained lungs and pain in feet
water retention in face and body- midday. But I also drink lots of water when I wake up
heavy feeling in body and legs
itchy pink rash on right arm, inside elbow, worse when scratched. Bumpy but not flaky or oozy
profuse night sweats when it acts up
Bad body odor- smell a bit like onions, pungent, sour, strong
Tongue- white/ coated, occasional white flakes inside cheeks and mouth.- peeling white inside lower lip
But never had a cold sore in my life
Fatigue- on bad days it can be all day long

Taking hot baths helps and being around close friends helps. Praying helps and going to church helps. But I went from being very social to being reclusive and never want to go out or wear nice clothes, party because of personality changes and partly because I just feel bad.

This illness has come in waves, but I mostly have felt terrible the entire year. I have had a few days in there when I thought I would get better but then I got worse again. It was more acute Janurary through April, then it became more chronic and the eye pain got worse. Like it got trapped in the eye socket.

Chronic problems from before getting sick:
achilles heel pain, both sides, but worse on right side
cysts
low thyroid – tsh 7.5, currently taking Synthroid. Only medication I’m on.
Hashimotos disease
intolerance to alcohol

I have always preferred the heat and unfomfortable in winter. Feet get sweaty and clammy cold in winter and I have to take 1-2 hot baths a day in the winter which relieves symptoms. Drinking homemade bone-broth with the fat and cayenne pepper helps keep me warm.

The main thing that makes the illness worse that I can tell is if I eat starches or sugar. Makes sense since they said it is yeast related problem. I’m on the anti-candida diet and currently taking anti-fungal chinese herbs and grapefruit seed extract. I sleep a lot- 9-10 hours through the night. If I don’t, I have more aches in my body. I’ve tried everything else and this is the only thing that seems to help.

3. Family history:
Hashimotos: all 3 of my siblings
Headaches, father and sister
Recoverd from prostate c- father
Mother- high blood pressure and emphysema but she was a smoker
Diabetes- maternal grandfather
Congestive heart failure- maternal side, grandmother’s family but all lived into their 90’s.

4. Personal History.
a)About childhood.
ANS. Was quiet, creative, had a few close friends but not popular. Was more weird than normal. Did not follow trends or watch tv. Liked to draw and paint by myself and sing.
b)Academic performance.
ANS. Did not make good grades in school except art and choir, until I got an art scholarship to college then made mostly A’s. Enjoyed college because I felt like I was in control so I became academic and exceled in all subjects.
c)Any major incidents in life and the effect of it on life.
ANS. Knee surgery, 12 years old, had a trick knee that kept dislocating till after surgery. Nothing major happened, had a happy childhood and wonderful family. I was rebellious slightly but they liked me and supported the things I exceled in, like art. Always loved my parents and had a good relationship with them. Always felt loved, supported, and special.
d)How you are satisfied with your sex life, friends, family members, company etc.
ANS.
I’m divorced from a man who was a provider type, more conservative than me. I felt that he did not celebrate me the way my family did or enjoy who I am. He was critical of my shortcomings (organization, finances, home making), but was not impressed by my strengths or find me charming like others do (art, music, friendliness, dancing). I was used to getting lots of positive attention and for some reason married someone who liked pushing me down and insulting me. I still cling to this relationship even though we are divorced. In marriage counseling with him now. I felt very loved by friends when things went well in my life, but many friends fell away when I got sick so it has hurt me very much and I feel quite alone and down right now.

5. Habits/Addiction.
a)-non smoker, used to drink wine 3 days a week, 1-2 glasses. Stopped drinking when I got sick a year ago. No drugs, scared of being high so I don’t want to try.
ANS.
b)Masturbation and frequency.
ANS. Low sex drive, no interest

6. How is your Appetite and Thirst.
ANS. Low appetite, lots of thirst for plain water or hot herbal tea. On a strict diet and hate that I can’t have chocolate or chai tea with cream right now. Can’t even eat fruit, which is not a normal craving. But since I can’t have it I crave it right now.

7. Likes and Dislikes.
a)wine, margaritas, Mexican, thai and indian food, sushi. But all of these are occasional treats. I’m a health nut so I also love healthy paleo meals with lots of veggies. Love chocolate, hot chocolate, all hot drinks, broth, soup, hot tea, chai tea, coffee with cream and sweetener/ although I only eat chocolate without sugar – I use natural sweeteners like stevia and xylitol. Don’t like anything cold. Don’t like winter, ice cream, ice, snow, air conditioning or fans. Love hot things- Sun, Summer, hot tubs, hot chocolate, coffee, hot tea, fires in the fireplace. Haven’t had a soda or fast food since I was 10. Occasionally I enjoy cool weather if it is dry and I can get outside and briskly walk. Love thunderstorms but hate the headaches I get from mold the day after it rains

b)Anything else about like and dislike of any activity with you or surrounding.
ANS. I’m a natural dancer, love singing, writing songs, also love figuring out health stuff. I formulated all my skincare products from researching online about different ingredients and reading scientific studies. Love research. Don’t watch a lot of movies, because I’d rather be working on the things I love, plus I always have something to do. Love being outside, running, in the sun, hiking, kayaking. Love being with friends and family. Love my family.

8. Bowel movements.
a)Nature of stool, frequency, satisfactory or not.
ANS. Loose, brown, flaky, 1-2 times every morning, not problematic
b)Any discomforts associated with stool.
ANS. No

9. Urine.
a)Frequency, nature, volume.
ANS. Frequent, clear, but smells like alcohol when I wake up. (like how pee smells after a night of drinking, but I don’t drink)
b)Any discomfort before, during or after urination/odour
ANS. I feel like I have to urinate right after I urinate, like I didn’t get it all out. Once an hour at least, but at night I sleep through the night, maybe wake up once to urinate but not always

11. For Females.
a)Menses, Regular, Irregular,Early, Late.
ANS. regular
b)Duration of menses.
ANS. 5 days
c)Nature of flow, Scanty, Blood colour, Consistency, Odour, Staining, itching/ when and what makes it worse/better.
ANS. Dark red, heavy for first 3 days then super light

12. Sleep.
a)The quality of sleep, the quietness or restlessness of sleep,
position of sleep, times of waking and reasons for waking,
need for cover over various parts of the body,
whether the window must be open or closed etc.
common dreams, peculiar sounds or gestures during sleep, etc.
ANS.
Sleeping very hard right now. Normally a night owl and stay up with boundless creative energy until 2-3am. Right now I have no creativity and fall asleep around 12, wake up once at 8 to urinate then go back to bed till 10. Was dreaming bad dreams until the other day when my dreams became lucid, interesting and more hopeful. Like a dream where I saw someone I have resented for a long time. She ditched me when I was divorced. In the dream, we were volunteering for some charity together and ended up reconciling the friendship and it was a great feeling. Prefer to fall asleep with a pillow rolled up under my neck, not under my head. Then end up on right side when I wake up. I prefer the temp to be 70 when I sleep and about 76 during the day. Like to sleep with the door closed and locked, but when I’m with my ex, we sleep with the door open and it doesn’t bother me since I’m not alone.

13. Sweat
a)armpits sour, onions, night sweats- back and torso, profuse, odorless

14. Weather
a)better in dry warm weather, also ok with coast weather. Moldy humid air makes me worse, cold makes me worse.

15. Mental Status
a)The quality of the patient's life in relationship to loved ones, family, friends and colleagues. Overall quality of energy available to function in daily life, and under various circumstances.
ANS. Shut down mentally due to this illness. Normally very focused, ambitious and driven
Mental symptoms:
Have had these since January, but when I have pressure in the eye from a flare up, these symptoms are worse:
Withdrawn from society
not motivated to work, though I’m usually a workaholic and love what I do
overwhelmed and shut down
doom
sad
crying
hysterical emotional swings, feeling of desperation to return to normal and want to be loved, feel like I’m dying
nostalgic and cling to things from the past
weepy
sensitive
angry
unhappy
serious
depressed
extremely insecure and scared
pessimistic

b)Any mental/emotional shocks occurring in the patient's life-grief, major financial losses separation from loved ones, death, identity crisis and other stress in life.
ANS. Divorce, 2012, but not as hard as this illness in 2014 which caused identity crisis, personality changes, memory loss
c)Memory,ability to concentrate/comprehend.
ANS. Memory short term affected by this illness
d)Are you fearful of anything eg: Animals, people, being alone, darkness, death, disease, robbers, thunder, storm, high places.
ANS. Fear of not being loved, fear of having my knee dislocate again
e)Are you anxious about anything: if yes, give details.
ANS. Anxious about my future, want to have kids, but no solid relationship. In counseling with ex husband but relationship is rocky
f)Are you impatient.
ANS. A little impatient, especially in relationships
g)Are you doubtful or suspicious.
ANS. A little, but I would also say I’m intuitive. I’m not suspicious often but when I am I am usually right about something
h)Are you hurt easily (emotionally)how do you react. Does it cause hatred/revenge.
ANS. I feel hurt when people are not loyal. I am very loyal and devoted as a friend
i)Does your pride get hurt easily.
ANS. Used to being on stage and in the spotlight- I am comfortable with criticism and praise. But if someone criticizes me to hurt me in a personal way, it hurts my pride
j)Are you depressed, if so, reason/circumstances.
ANS. Yes, depressed because of this unrelenting pain in my eye and constant discomfort. Also hate being on such a restricted diet
k)Do you like to share your problems.
ANS. Yes I am very open to it, and find health and healing a very fascinating topic.
l)Effect of consolation.
ANS. Hugs are very important. Need consolation and hugs, it helps a lot
m)Do you ever become suicidal when? How.
ANS. I don’t feel suicidal, but I feel depressed because on bad days, I would rather not live than this be the quality of my life forever.
n)Memory- quality if poor, for what ( eg. Names, places, people, what you read).
ANS. Names, people, places, poor memory but not horrible.
o)Do you weep easily, effect of weeping, ie, does it make you worse or better.
ANS. Weeping yes, especially when eye pressure is bad. Better when taking hot bath, praying, or hugging someone
p)Are you easily irritated. What makes you angry, how do you express it.
ANS. I get irritated when people are mean and unaccommodating. i.e. the chiropractor messed up my back and they wouldn’t give me a free adjustment to fix it. Woke up that night stewing about how rude they were and feel like it was personal. Like they didn’t believe me or think that she was the cause of my back pain the next day.
q)Are you destructive.
ANS. No, except once, when I let my marriage fail.
r)How good are you in making decisions.
ANS. Good at small decisions, creative decisions. Not as good at big decisions and usually ask for counsel when making big decisions.
s)Do you like company or like to remain alone.
ANS. Usually I love company and it energizes me, but then I need alone time to recharge
t)How seriously are you affected by disorder and uncleanness in your surroundings.
ANS. I’m somewhat neat. I don’t like clutter or dirty things. Wash my hands constantly and bathe a lot, but a few clothes on the floor here or there don’t stress me out.
u)How does failure appear to you?
ANS. I feel failure with my marriage, because I could have kids now and be normal like the rest of my cousins and friends. I always enjoyed being different, and love who I am but longed for normalcy and stability. Financial failure is a big fear.
v)Are there any matters that you deeply dislike?
ANS. I don’t like motorcycles or anything related to that culture. I don’t like gross things, dirty things, cheap things or trashy people.
w)What activities you deeply like? How does it affect your mood?
ANS. I like culture, opera, music, symphony, pop music, art, art museums, fancy parties, church, deep prayer and meditation, soulful things. I like going to fundraisers and enjoy being a part of a community with successful, interesting people. But I’m not a shallow person, even though I like these things. I love seeking spirituality and prayer, and being there for others in need. Feeling like I can be there for someone makes me feel great and I can spend hours on the phone listening to people and being a good friend. I love being able to write a meaningful and deep song, and then perform it so that it moves others. But I’m not great at gift giving, but I’m good at giving my time and making others feel loved. I get super busy and think my art/ music/ business is important so I tend to be ego-centric just because I feel that the things I do are important and that I am special. I’m working on not being so ego centric, because I know it is a character flaw and can hurt others.
x)Are you affectionate? How does others sorrow affect you?
ANS. Yes I am affectionate, I like to hug, massage and love to cook for others. I am very good at giving massages. I feel sorrow and loss deeply. I always got over relationships quickly until my marriage. Then I have still held on and become nostalgic and weepy about it. Especially after I got sick. Have a lot of guilt about my part.
y)Any present fears in your life or future.
ANS. Fear that I won’t get better, fear that I won’t find financial success, fear that I won’t find a great partner and happiness / kids, family. Fear that I’ll go crazy and have a breakdown. Fear that people won’t admire me. Fear that my husband won’t take me back.
z)Any present life or future life desires.
ANS. I’d like to fall in love. Would love to have success with my business financially, then record my new album and would like to become a DJ mixing my own songs and singing live. Would love to go home to family over the holidays with my marriage reconciled.

Summary:
My current problem that has lasted 1 year:
I had an acute illness starting last December that caused all kinds of problems on my left side and all over the body. Before December I felt pretty normal. I was happy, energetic, optimistic, successful, lots of friends and went to every party. Threw parties and events. I usually love attention and being in the spotlight for my talents and successes. But I’m not a loud person and not a super talkative person. I have more of a demure, poised demeanor and smile a lot and am a good listener. Everyone thinks I’m talented and I get a lot of praise for that, which I like. I’m the lead singer in a band and comfortable with public speaking. (just want to distinguish that because my sister is the one who dominates conversations in the family and I’m usually the listener). I’ve never been great at making money but have friends that ‘believe in me’ so I’ve been asked to house sit on many occasions. I enjoy wearing stylish clothing and jewelry and a little bit of makeup but not too much. I take 5 minutes to get ready but I look put-together. I tend to eat all organic and home cooked meals, love to cook and very creative in the kitchen. Exercise regularly- yoga, running and crossfit 5x a week.

The sickness took everything from me. I had personality changes so crazy during the acute time, that the neurologist gave me a spinal tap, thinking I must have a brain infection or heavy metal poisoning. Tests were negative.

It feels that there is a blockage in the energy channel on the left side inside my head somewhere. Eyesocket, ear or neck. Acupuncture shows there is a blockage and I suspect it was there before I got sick, but the sickness was trapped in my head because of the left side blockage. Don’t have a medical diagnosis, but have been told by 4 natural practitioners that I have Candida, and possibly Cryptococcus Neoformans. Also had a big bout of Epstein Barr at the same time- January- March.

Thank you so much for your help, I’m trying to be as honest as possible with these answers, I hope it is not too lengthy. Please let me know if there is anything else you need.

Hi there, thank you so much. I was just reading about Thuja. It does sound quite a lot like me. Except one thing- I've read that they are typically plagued with acne and warts. I have always had perfect, clear skin. Never had any issues with acne, no moles or warts or freckles and have zero wrinkles at age 35. Never done any treatments or botox, but have quite perfect skin. Does that change anything?

no issuses with that, follow the prescription and report, then next step can be determined.

thanks...

Ok, thank you! I will try it and let you know how it goes!

Hi. Ive tried Thuja and it didn't seem to help a lot. I wanted to let you know that I had a grapefruit sized fibroid on my uterus and it was removed last week.
I found out that I have Herpes simplex 1 and it was causing neuralgia on my optic nerve, causing all of the neurological problems. It seems to be worstened by damp weather, mold and fungi. I also have the candida still as well. I never had a cold sore or outbreak in my life, but they said it was a rare place to have an outbreak on my optic nerve. I feel best when drinking hot drinks, hot baths and exertion until I sweat. (running, crossfit or hot yoga). The headaches are bad on the left side, and I'm very depressed and fearful about my future after divorce. Does this change anything or should I keep taking the Thuja?
Thanks

To be honest, every time I take Thuja the symptoms seem to get worse. So I haven't continued it- I've just tried it off and on and it seems to aggravate the neurological symptoms. Those symptoms me feel irritable, withdrawn, crazy, dizzy, like I'm on drugs, out of it, forgetful, like I'll never be normal again. It makes me scared, but not really many panic attacks. It is more calm than panic. It causes the pain and pressure to trigger in my eye, which seems to be causing the neurological symptoms. I've also been getting tinnitus really badly- ringing and rushing in the ears. Please let me know if I should push through the Thuja and keep taking it even though it seems to make things worse.
Thank you.

I feel that the main issue is the infectious attack on my eye, viral, fungal or possibly auto immune.

It causes a lot of pressure and discomfort on the left side of my face. mostly forehead and just below the eye. It feels that there is swelling and it is visibly swollen and slightly purple. It has been this way 1 year. It is triggered when I eat carbohydrates.
