Treating the current Throat Virus

Here in Sri Lanka where I live I find that almost everyone seems to be suffering from a sore throat which sometimes ends in hospitalization in the case of some who do not treat it. At first I thought that it was a virus that had got a foot hold in Sri Lanka but to my surprise I discovered that it is rampant today in India, England, Malaysia and is spreading fast in other parts of the world.

This virus starts with a slight irritation of the throat with a roughness in the voice and if it is not treated at this early stage it develops into a hoarse throat with inability to swallow and later a barking cough accompanied with a temperature.

I have used Belladonna 30c successfully to treat this ailment and the dosage is 2 pellets taken every 3 hours. The virus is usually stopped in its tracks in under 24 hours but it is important that the remedy is continued on the day after relief is noticed, as it will re-establish itself again. The dosage for the day after relief is felt is 3 times daily.

Cases have been reported where this virus has struck the patient again in about a week after the first attack has been successfully overcome, and the same therapy should be followed. I have also advised those who were attacked by this virus to use just 2 pellets Bell 30c after they are well before retiring at night as a prophylactic to prevent the virus attacking again and again which this unusual virus seems to be capable of doing.

It is important to commence treatment with Bell 30c as early as possible when one is first aware of the discomfort in the throat as it will abort the virus more effectively than after it is fully established in the throat.
Gargling in warm salt water before retiring for the night is also recommended as a prophylactic.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
What about kids? My daughter had it badly- went through a course of antibiotics and then it recured in a week - I used 2 doses of Belladona and then a dose of Apis mel the second time and it went down in 2 days.

My son had a bad throat. Then it subsided and he has residual phlegm in his throat. Wet cough in the mornings - dry cough through the rest of the day. Tried Pulsatilla and it didnt work. Any advice?

Thank you for the information about your experience with Bell. I presume you used the 30c.

This virus is incredible in that it recurs again and again which is not normal for a virus which is usually gone in 3 to 5 days.

As I stated in my last post, it is important to hit the virus as early as possible with Bell 30 as soon as the first sign of itchiness in the throat is first noticed.

I would suggest you use Bell 30 for your son and see the response. I believe that it should also work for him.

Here in Mumbai, even my daughter (3.5yrs) was affected. Gave antibiotic and after a week she is again caught with cough and cold. This time I do not know if the throat is infected. But she coughs during day and more at night.Should I give her Bell 30c?
And my Son (twin) he too has been having wet cough and moderate running nose for over 3 weeks. Have been giving expectorant but can't get rid of it. Should he be treated with Bell 30c?

Thanks

I am indeed surprised by the virulence of this throat virus which seems to have taken Colombo by surprise as almost every other person here is suffering from it. I presume that it is the same in Mumbai and I saw the Virendra Sewag was hospitalized with it.

I feel that Bell 30c preferably in the water dose is the best remedy for this virus which must be taken every 3 hours. In the case of your twin son who has a wet cough for 3 weeks you can use Ferr Phos 30x tablets Dose 1 tablet given 3 times daily. This should dry up his coryza. You can give him the Bell 30 also and report response in 2 days.

You make the water dose by dropping 3 globules of Bell 30c into 500ml spring water which is agitated violently to ensure that the mixture is aerated by banging on your palm of shaking the bottle hard 6 times before every dose.

Please refer to my previous post on this thread, about my 2 kids with the throat virus. My daughter is 100% OK.

.....After a week since it started, for my son, the cough was still on - stopped all homeo. Took him to an allopath who said no redness of throat anymore or any wheezing and it must be the residual phlegm in the throat and maybe a mild allergy - gave him an expectorant to clear up the mucus. This was 4 days ago. Teh cough is slowly improving. The cough is wet in the mornings, worst the 2-3 hrs after he wakes up. After a while it goes down but not completely. Sometimes completely subsides for a few hours in the evening.
Last night was the first when he slept through without coughing. This mornign again a wet cough - seems to be mucus in the throat.

Also if you remember a loooong post - he still has a persistant chalazion in his right lower eye that no medicine seems to be able to cure. I even tried you arnica wet dose.

I'd like to first deal with the cough and get it out of the way before tackling the eye again -which at this point I am close to giving up on.

Please help.

Glad to note that your daughter is now OK. Please note however that you must continue with the Bell for at least the day after she is completely OK as otherwise the virus will return with increased virulence.

For your son who harbours the cough, you can use the higher potency of Bell 200c in the water dose 3 times daily and watch for results.

Arnica 30c taken daily will help with the Chalazion, also in the water dose. It may be taken with the Bell but an hour apart.

Spoke too soon about my daughter - the sore throat seems to go away completely and recur in 4-5 days time - this is the 3rd time it has been happening. She also has a dry cough from tickling at the base of her throat. Waht to do?

hi joe,
to prevent the relapses I generally use streptococcin 200 in infrequent dosages, but I am not entirely agree with you that bell is the first & last drug, there are so many according to the symptoms, sides, concomittants & modalities.

This present throat virus is one that takes the world record of not going away permanently after the first 3 or 5 days of infecting the host. It simply amazes me how this same virus has struck all over the world and it was when I observed that many were affected that I posted my observations on December 10.

I too suffered from it about a month ago and was able to abort it in 2 days with Bell but it came back twice after giving about 3 days grace when I was OK. I used Bell 30 each time but this was as soon as it struck. I use the Bell in the water dose after succussion and this seemed to help abort it each time. I did not contact the hacking cough that many have after the virus is aborted. The cough is due to the bacteria taking over from the virus and many have been compelled to use antibiotics and have even had to be warded in hospital with this URT infection.

I can only suggest that you follow this same therapy as there does not seem to any other that can successfully deal with the virus. You can always use the 200c potency but this is not recommended for daily use.

Ferr Phos 6x (biochemic) can also help when taken with the Bell an hour apart. Dose 2 tablets 3 times daily.

Joe can Ferr Phos 6x dilution be used instead of the biochemic?

Thanks
