The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Anyone else have suggestions?

Here is my thread...just wondering if anyone else has any ideas for getting rid of this nasal congestion and discharge.
http://www.abchomeopathy.com/forum2.php/422290/18
At this point I'd be happy just palliating the symptoms until whatever it is clears on its own.

Please answer the following questions in a descriptive manner after careful analysis and recollection of previous experience and happenings.

1. Describe your main suffering? State the correct location of pain or suffering. Extreme swelling of nasal passageways. Cannot get any air in or out of nose. Nose is constantly running though (somehow, even though it's blocked shut). Nasal discharge is pretty constant. It varies between clear and yellow. I have to blow my nose all day long, and pretty frequently I end up with a little blood on the tissue because I'm trying so hard to clear my nose.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body? Slight pressure in facial sinuses, sneezing, throat aches around the Eustachian tubes, and ears feel itchy.

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings? I feel irritated that I can't breathe through my nose. I am tired because I can't sleep well. I wake up very early every morning because my nose starts running and I start sneezing and wake up the baby. I just want this to be over.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst? Describe the sensation in your own words. I feel miserable. Stuffed up and can't breathe through my nose. At work, I feel unprofessional. I feel like I look like an idiot breathing through my mouth all day. I feel like customers are looking at me or are repulsed by my runny nose. I am frustrated with this illness/allergic reaction (whatever it is) and just want it to go away. I feel like the Thuja is to blame. I wish I hadn't taken it.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease? When I first took Thuja a couple of months ago, the runny nose started and has never stopped. The nasal congestion has happened before, last month, right after starting my new job in a yarn shop. I wonder if perhaps I'm allergic to wool.

6. Which time of the day you are worst? First thing in the morning. I wake up early to go pee and would love to be able to go back to sleep, but my nose starts running even before I get out of bed or sit up, and then I feel the tickle and know I'm going to start sneezing over and over. I have to get up so I don't wake up my son and husband. Then I am blowing my nose over and over and it really never stops running, so I know I won't be able to go back to bed. My husband says he feels really bad for me listening to me trying to sleep and breathe and having a hard time getting air. Pretty much it's bad all day though. But sleeping is the most aggravating part, I think.

7. What are the things that aggravate your suffering and those that ameliorate the same? Example: time, temperature, pressure, rubbing, washing, eating, tight clothing etc.
I'm not sure what aggravates it, but I get very little amelioration. Once in awhile my nose just seems to clear temporarily for a bit, but then closes up again. Hot showers don't help, I've been trying home remedies like cayenne and horseradish, nothing's helping. One day I got a little help from just eating a really hot meal (temperature-wise). But it was very temporary. Another day, going out into the cold air seemed to help a little. But that's not usually the case.

8. Do you think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?
Well, the runny nose seemed to be related to Thuja, but the nasal swelling/blockage seemed to start after I started working. Prior to that, I'd been a stay at home mom for 5 years.

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?
I prefer cooler weather to hot. I feel miserable when it's really hot out. I don't like being really cold though, either. I don't like humid but I also don't like dry weather. Something in between.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.
Tend toward depression, anxious, moody and irritable around menses, More on the quiet side, like to be home vs. going out and being around lots of people. Have always felt like I needed lots of sleep to be feeling my best---like 10 hours a night. I dream all night long. I have two children who were/are both terrible sleepers so I haven't really slept through the night in 5 years. I currently get woken up about 5-10 times a night by my youngest.
I tend to be a worrier and overthink everything. I like everything to have a plan and dislike change and surprises. I take comfort in sameness. I like to be alone when I can, but don't have a lot of opportunities for that with young children in the house.

- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm? I like thunderstorms. I feel energized by them. I get a thrill by them.
- Do you like being consoled during your tough times? Mostly I like being alone. I would prefer to be consoled, but I feel embarrassed about being weak, and so prefer to be alone so no one sees me at my worst.
- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc? Yes, compared to my husband I have very sensitive hearing, and noises that are fine for him seem too loud for me.
- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless
Weeping, talking to one self etc? When I get anxious, I tend to twist my wedding band around my finger, or feel like I need to do something with my hands.
- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife? Friends and family--I feel like I don't really have any friends that truly know me through and through. I have a couple of close friends but I don't share everything with them. My husband, I share a lot with but even with him there are things about my personality that he just can't understand. I'm an artistic type and he's not, so it seems like it would just be difficult for him to comprehend. He's very down to earth and I more have my head up in the clouds.
I vacillate between wanting to be left alone and needing the reassurance that someone will always be there for me. I feel like I would be almost better off alone sometimes, but then couldn't think of being actually alone---I hated being alone when I was single. I still feel lonely though even though I have my family around me.
-How do you respond to music? Depends on the music. I like soothing, peaceful music. I feel like music affects me emotionally/mentally, so I don't like loud, dissonant, edgy music at all. Do you feel better or worse mentally listening to music? Again, depends on the music. Soothing, restful, quiet music calms me. Loud or rock music really makes me feel uncomfortable and like I want to hide.
- What upsets you most in yourself and in others? Lack of perfection. I want to be able to do everything well, and when I can see obvious flaws in myself, or weaknesses, vulnerability, it really bothers me. I feel like I might get hurt somehow if I am weak, so I try to be strong. Weakness in others really irritates me, for example my mother in law seems like a really weak individual--hard for her to make up her mind, too soft-spoken, forgetful, frightened easily--and she really irritates me in general.

11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly? I fear being left alone. I also fear being rejected. Sometimes I'll have repetitive dreams, such as when I'm stressed out I'll dream a lot about being chased and running, always running, always just barely eluding the enemy, etc. Always trying to escape but never free. Always on edge and waiting for that other shoe to drop.

12. What do you crave in food items and what are your aversions? I do not like the feel of meat in my mouth, for example steak or turkey or anything where you can feel the muscle fibers or have to chew them. I prefer hamburger meat, chicken breast (boneless skinless), and dairy for protein. I do love dairy. Cheese, milk, butter, etc. I don't think I could live without dairy. I dislike tuna and most fish. I can tolerate halibut but don't really enjoy it. The fish smell of any fish is an immediate turn-off for me. I don't like curry or hot, spicy foods. I like cruciferous vegetables and crave them from time to time. An ideal meal for me would be angel hair pasta with herbs, fried chicken breast, and broccoli. I mostly drink water but love a cup of black tea with milk and sugar first thing in the morning.

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive? Seems normal.

14. How is your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive? Seems normal. Seems like I go awhile without being hungry and then I'm all of a sudden starving.

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand? Slimy, mucilagenous foods seem to make me want to gag. For example, squash that's been cooked too long and is stringy. When I'm on my period, foods that resemble blood are slightly repulsive to me, like dark red jam, ketchup and the like.

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs? Trunk. I have been having night sweats now for a couple of months. They subsided while on Sepia but came back with Thuja.

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type? The last two or three days I've been having diarrhea in the mornings. Very very loose. Normally I tend to just have one bowel movement a day or two, in the mornings, but right now it's been three or four.

18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping? I like to sleep on my stomach and on my side. When I sleep on my back my throat seems to fall closed and I have a hard time breathing. I think my favorite position is kind of halfway in between laying on my side and laying on my back, with one leg straight and one knee bent.
Prior to having children, I normally slept a little lightly, sometimes would have a hard time falling asleep due to racing thoughts. Now since I never sleep through the night, I fall asleep easily, get woken up all night, and never feel 100% rested when I wake up.

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general? Not really. I feel like my sexual desires are somewhat stifled. My husband is great and willing to please, but I feel self-conscious in bed, and have difficulty orgasming at times. I get distracted easily, have a hard time staying in the moment, and often have a reduced or absent desire. I'm taking 7mg of Paxil a day and that has affected my desire and ability to orgasm as well.

20. Do you have any strange, peculiar or unusual symptom or feelings? How are you different from others? How am I different from others---I feel like most others never think or feel as deeply as I do. They go about their lives, happy for the most part, but never think about the deeper things or wonder about the origin or life or their purpose or destiny. I feel like if I were to voice my deepest thoughts, that most people would think I'm strange or not understand. I have a hard time putting what I'm feeling into words for those deepest thoughts. For most other things though, I'm pretty articulate.

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication? I'm taking Paxil 7mg per day, that's my normal regular medication for depression. As for this illness/allergies or whatever it is, I've been using a nasal spray to help shrink down the nasal passages. I get a bit of side effects from it--slight burning feeling, increase of nasal discharge--but it sure beats having to breathe through my mouth all day and night. My throat is really getting sore from that. I tried using Benadryl but it didn't really help.

22. What major diseases are running in your family? Heart disease--grandfather on my mom's side had an implanted pacemaker and defibrillator. High blood pressure. Depression. It's interesting to note that my mom had nightmares as a child into early adulthood, and that was the same for me....nightmares a lot as a child into my early 20s, now I rarely ever get one. My older son (5) gets bad dreams sometimes, too, and I wonder sometimes if the youngest (20 months) gets them too.
There must be some kind of kidney disorder on my dad's side of the family, because both my sister and I were born with kidney anomalies, as was my youngest son. My dad's side is very closed about their medical problems though, so we don't know for sure, except that his mother had a kidney infection so bad one time that it spread to one of her ribs which she had to have removed.

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance. 5'3", 135 or 140 lbs. High cheekbones, brown hair, hazel eyes. Not much muscle tone. Kind of lean bone structure-wise, but a bit flabby in the stomach. A bit small-chested.

24. What major diseases have you had in your life and when. Please write them in a chronological manner. I was born with a duplicated renal system--each of my kidneys are like one organ with two separate inner functioning parts, and double ureters. I had UTIs ALL the time as a child. I was on antibiotics constantly. It got better as an adult but problematic again when I got married and became sexually active. I had a minor surgery for a ureterocele about 5 years ago that took care of the problem.
In 2012, I had a miscarriage, about 7 weeks gestation (but thought I was about 12 weeks along--so baby had died earlier but didn't miscarry till later). When the miscarriage got into full swing, I started hemorrhaging badly, had to go to the ER and have an emergency D&C to remove some of the placenta that was blocking the cervix and preventing it from completing. I had to have two units of blood. I got a pulmonary embolism the next day, no known cause. Had to be on blood thinners for I think about 6 months. After I was off of those I was able to get pregnant again and had our second son. Whenever I'm pregnant (and sometimes even when not), I get a heart arrhythmia, paroxysmal SVTs. My heart races and I feel out of breath, like I need to sit or lay down in order to just feel halfway OK. Hot showers bring it on sometimes, or hot, stuffy rooms.
Depression is something I've dealt with since my early 20s, I've been on a lot of different medications. Right now I'm on a very low dose of Paxil, I would prefer not to be on it at all but it has bad withdrawals, and I'm not prepared to go through that again right now. So I stay on a low dose to stay on an even keel.
Whenever I'm pregnant, my moods are awful. The first and third trimesters for sure I feel like I'm going to ruin my marriage. I get suspicious, irritable, weepy, feel like everything is going badly all the time, everything is against me, everyone is critical of me.

(For Females)
25. If your menstrual cycles are not normal, please describe all irregularities, like pains, moods, flow type, clots etc. as below:
- Are your periods generally regular, early or delayed? What is the usual cycle duration? Regular, about 26-28 days.
- Describe the sensations and locations of pain before, during and after the flow. I get kind of a heavy feeling in the pelvic area, some dull cramps at the beginning of the period. Tender breasts--I'm still nursing my toddler, and it gets a little painful. I also have been getting all the PMS symptoms when I ovulate, so I get it twice. During ovulation I get ovulation pains, crampy pains on both sides of the pelvis, moody, and tender breasts as well.
- How do you generally deal with your sufferings during periods? Do you have any non-medical way of relieving your suffering? Sometimes I feel like I want some alcohol to try to mellow out or feel better. I don't hardly ever drink alcohol (especially since I'm nursing), but sometimes I feel like it might make me feel better.
- What is the duration of flow? Is it heavy, medium or light? Heavy at the beginning, lightening up fairly quickly, usually it's all over from start to finish in less than a week. Seems that because I'm breastfeeding, it's shorter than normal (used to be more like 8 or 9 days).
- Do you observe clots? Not really.
- Do you have mid-cycle spotting? What are the days you have spotting? No.
- Describe changes in your mental condition or any other peculiar symptom that surfaces before, during or after the flow. I get irritable, moody, weepy, etc, suspicious that everyone is critical of me, similar to pregnancy but not as intense as pregnancy was. I actually have been feeling much better on this symptom since the Thuja. Thuja has definitely helped my mood, I just feel so irritated that it brought on this nasal problem which is so disturbing to my life.
- Do your sufferings increase or decrease as soon as the flow begins? Increase.
- Did you ever take birth control pills on a regular basis? Yes, for about 5 years. I am not currently taking any birth control---I think I have been off of it for about 6 months now. We are not trying to get pregnant though, and using the natural family planning method.
- Have you ever been treated earlier or recently for any gynecological irregularity? Please describe. My mood problems were definitely on my list for help with the homeopathic remedy. Thuja did seem to help those a lot. Other than that, the D&C with the miscarriage was the only other thing really. Oh, and I did have an IUD inserted after the miscarriage, because it was unsafe for me to use regular birth control pills after having the blood clot in my lung. I only used the IUD for about 5 or 6 months though, it was painful for my husband during intercourse, and so we had it removed. I didn't like having it in anyway. I got pregnant a month or two later, then used a progesterone-only pill after pregnancy. Then stopped birth control to see if it would help with my moods. It didn't, but I still don't want to take it anymore.

A side note, our family is making preparations to move back up to Alaska, possibly as soon as 3 weeks from now. We're waiting on our tax return and my passport card (we live in the Pacific NW, but would need the passport to drive through Canada). I mostly am excited about this, because I've lived up there before when my oldest was a baby, and we've missed it ever since we left. But I've also been living where I am for 3 years now, and am comfortable here, even if it's not the best place to be, it is a comfortable, known quantity, predictable. Change is hard, even if it's good change. I worry about future income, how the children will adjust (although the oldest is very excited, so that helps), where we will live, and how I will handle it emotionally. Whether I will work up there or not---I like my job now and almost hate to leave it. But at the same time I feel it's right. It's just happening fast and I feel a little afraid.

You are a Natrum personality. Try taking NATRUM MURATICUM 30C initially, once every 6 hours for two days maximum.

Wait and watch your symptoms change for the next few days.

Once I get to know your feedback, I will give you a sustained dosage for some weeks. If the remedy produces the desired response, you may take it whenever your symptoms relapse.
