The ABC Homeopathy Forum

Elderly woman with delusions

My 84 year old mother has been suffering from memory problems for many years but she has been quite competent until recently.

She is no longer sleeping through the night and wakes up and looks out the window.

She believes she sees a homeless man sitting in her neighbor's car smoking a cigarette.

It is not possible.

She obsessively checks the front door knob to make sure it is locked but when asked if she feels unsafe, she denies it... Says she is just taking basic security precautions.

Would appreciate help.

Thanks,
Ruth

if she cannot recite just let her listen.

She has no thirst at all. It is a struggle to make her drink. She has little appetlte and is losing weight. She will eat if someone puts a plate in front of her and eats heartily but if you ask her if she is hungry, she will say no.

She is easily chilled. She likes to sit outside. Doesn't sweat.

She has short term memory problems. She is cheerful and optimistic during the day but paranoid and fearful at night. Denies that anything is wrong. Even when shown that no one is in the neighbor's car, she maintains that he was there earlier but must have left.

She is also incontinent and her urine smells very strong.

Thank you,

Give her one dose of Ambra Grisea 200c and report back in one week.

HOW TO TAKE THE REMEDY:
• Please take one dose. Just one dose. Not daily.
• Report back after 7 days using the format explained below.

WHAT IS A DOSE:
If remedy is Pills/Pellets:
• One dose is one pill. If the pellets are very small in size like fine sugar grain, then 7-10 pellets.
• Dissolve the pill in your mouth.

If remedy is liquid:
• Put one drop of the remedy in half glass of water, stir and take one tea spoon from it.
• That’s one dose.

TIME OF DOSE:
• At night before sleeping.
• Don’t take any more dose or any other remedy during this treatment.

PRECAUTIONS:
• Don’t take any other homeopathic remedy during this treatment.
• Give a break of at least 10 minutes before eating/drinking anything before or after taking the remedy.
• During the course of treatment, don’t eat/drink anything which you have never had all your life.

HOMEOPATHIC AGGRAVATION:
• Since every human being is unique, sometimes the chronic (long standing) symptoms for which treatment is being done can worsen after taking the homeopathic remedy. This is homeopathic aggravation and usually a good sign. The aggravation is temporary and dies down within days. Not everybody gets aggravation, some feel improvement right away.
• If you feel aggravation you can use any non-medicinal means to keep yourself comfortable. If the aggravation seems excessive, you can use any & all means necessary (including taking allopathic medicines) to keep yourself comfortable. Keep your homeopath fully updated if this happens.
• As a general rule, if you have been on allopathic medicines or steroids for years, your body’s response maybe more severe and can’t be judged before starting the treatment.

HOW TO REPORT CASE STATUS:
A good example of how to report your progress is by giving %age improvement or worsening for all your health problems e.g.
• Emotions: e.g. Feeling of happiness improved 40%
• Energy level: e.g. Feeling of tiredness reduced 70%
• Main health problem: e.g. Nasal discharge reduced 50%
• Other health problems: e.g. Acne increased 60%
• Anything new: Depression: e.g. Loose stool started
• And so on list all your complaints.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU ARE GETTING CURED:
The first step of cure is improvement in the mental and emotional side i.e. a general feeling of well being, better mood, more energy etc. It is followed by improvement in the major organs of the body. The symptoms which appeared last will resolve first. Basically, the cure will always follow Hering’s Law of Cure otherwise it’s not a cure, just palliation.

HOW TO ORDER REMEDIES:
You can get the remedies from various other online sources, use Google search for it.

LIFESTYLE CHANGE:
No amount of treatment, be it homeopathic or allopathic, can cure if the persistent cause is not eliminated e.g. if you keep moving a broken bone repeatedly then it will never heal since you are not giving it the required break to heal and set the bone. The same logic applies to constant immense stress (don’t confuse it with daily life stress which is necessary to survive).
Extremely unhappy relationships are toxic in nature and only breed more contempt & ill health unless they are addressed and proper remedial measures are not taken.

GENERAL INFO ABOUT HOMEOPATHIC PRESCRIBING:
If someone is giving several remedies, without waiting to see the effect of one remedy, this approach is totally against the core principles of homeopathy. Such an approach is unlikely to give permanent cure, rather it may distort actual symptoms making subsequent cure even more difficult.

DIETARY & EXERCISE GUIDELINES (for adults):
Use common sense in following these guidelines, if you are unsure then ask me. Homeopathy is not magic and it can only work when all other supportive strategies are also used. To make sure you are cured as fast as possible and stay that way please change your lifestyle to include the following:

1. Start eating half cup of low fat, plain, non-flavored yogurt with live cultures daily in the morning or with lunch. If you have homemade yogurt that’s the best.
2. Stop all processed foods e.g. white bread, white rice, white burgers etc.
3. Eat whole foods only i.e. whole grain bread, brown rice, brown burgers etc.
4. The bread should be high in bran content & the flour should be coarse ground.
5. Start eating a small bowl of salad at least once a day e.g. it should contain cucumber, carrots, salad leaves, tomato and any vegetable you like. Put a dressing of olive oil & raw apple cider vinegar and put some salt & black pepper to your liking.
6. Eat at least 1-2 fruits per day e.g. apple, orange etc.
7. Drink enough water so that your urine is clear. Yellow colored urine is a good indication that you are dehydrated.
8. Eat only when hungry and when eating, don’t overstuff yourself.
9. Focus on food only when you eat i.e. don’t divert your attention by watching tv etc.
10. Exercise:
• Aerobic activity e.g. Start walking at least 30 minutes a day for 5 days a week with your spouse/friend and achieve your target heart rate.
• Strength training e.g. Start weight training at least 20 minutes 3 days a week.

It is hard to say if she is improved. Some days are better than others but that was true before the remedy. I have tried to notice specific changes in mood or thirst or less anxiety at night but all I can say is that she may be slightly improved.

Thank you,
Ruth

"..she has been quite competent until recently..."

could u explain this in more detail please..

what are her emotions like when she mentioned man smoking in car?

John Stanton 7 years ago
I guess I shouldn't have said she was"quite competent until recently." She has been declining for some time. It's just the delusion about the homeless man is rather recent and certainly unexpected. (Could it be a delusion about inanimate objects being people? The car seat and the headrest do resemble a body and a head.)

Her main concern seems to be for her loved one's safety even more than her own. Her 25 year old granddaughter lives with her and is sometimes out late at night. This bothers her a lot. She's afraid something bad is going to happen to her. She has called me recently at night to make sure my husband is home and we are alright. She doesn't remember any of these things the next day and says she sleeps well.

It's hard to say what her emotions are about the homeless man. She doesn't like him being there but she thinks he's harmless and just needs a place to sleep. Again, she seems more worried about her granddaughter and doesn't like her having to walk near that car when she comes in at night. She warns her repeatedly to not answer the door for any reason. But the next day the homeless man is forgotten. Definitely the "sundowner syndrome."

Thanks for the help.

what time she usually go to bed? she wait for granddaughter?
how much change (in her condition) has occurred since granddaughter living with her?

John Stanton 7 years ago
could u please explain the below...

"..She is easily chilled. She likes to sit outside..."

John Stanton 7 years ago
She goes to bed at different times I think. She doesn't always wait up for her granddaughter. She does get up during the night though, which I used to believe she slept straight through. Recently she went to her granddaughter's room when she was home and in the bed trying to sleep and woke her up "checking to see if she was alright." Pretty extreme, right? The granddaughter locked her bedroom door.

I guess there has been significant change since her granddaughter started living with her less than a year ago but then prior to that, who knew? There was no one to witness it.

To explain "easily chilled and likes to sit outside": we live in the southern US and use air conditioning about 8 months out of the year. She doesn't like air conditioning blowing on her. She takes sponge baths because she doesn't like getting her body wet. It chills her. She turns on the bathroom heater to bathe.

She likes to sit outside (even in the heat.) She likes nature. She likes to look at the trees. She is social. She is hopeful that someone will stop and chat but even if they don't, she likes to sit outside anyway.
Thanks,
Ruth

ruth45 7 years ago
please go into further detail--explaining
"..she is social..."

John Stanton 7 years ago
She is a "people person." She likes to talk and visit with people. She is better for company. She brightens in company. She is not a complainer. People love her and she loves people. Up until she had to quit driving some years ago she was very involved in her church activities and visiting people and volunteering. She is just a genuinely kind and sacrificing person.

But she will show anger if I am impatient with her or she thinks I am being disrespectful. She also gets angry if I try to tell her there's no homeless man.

what meds she using ?reasons?
herbs?...etc? treatments?

what Is her skin health history?please explain--past to current and treatments used?

John Stanton 7 years ago
Meds: She only takes a very light dose of a blood pressure pill. (I've been cutting back from original dose. Her bp was a little low at recent doctor visit.) She takes two kinds of eyedrops to prevent glaucoma as she has a history of high eye pressure. She also has a cataract.

She takes no herbal supplements --just a multi vitamin and sometimes vitamin D and B 12 and fish oil.

Skin health history is unremarkable. Are you thinking something has been suppressed? I have no knowledge of her having any kind of skin problems like eczema or psoriasis or even dandruff. She has no eruptions like that...just some liver spots/age spots. She has some moles on her torso. I don't think she's had anything
removed. Oh wait... the dermatologist did freeze a small growth on her nose last year. He zapped it before I could object.

Her nose stays a reddish purple color all the time.

She has had some homeopathic remedies over the years: Puls, Ars, Bryonia, Benz acid (for strong smelling urine) but no constitutional remedy has ever worked. I think most recent homeopath (a few years ago) thought she was a mineral but I don't know what remedy he gave her was. He didn't reveal it.

Hope that answers your questions. By the way, tonight was a bad night. She said bedroom window screen was off and somebody could open window and get in. ( Not possible.)She wanted granddaughter to sleep on couch.

Granddaughter said she usually goes to bed around 10 pm and she thinks she is worse around that time. Again, she has never been a big worrier or particularly fearful and seems fine during the day.

Thanks,
Ruth
