Tooth/gum infection while pregnant

Six years ago, I had a root canal on a back molar. A permanent crown was placed on it but I had severe pain after the post was placed.

Since I have nerve damage in this area of my mouth due to a problematic wisdom tooth extraction, I had to see many specialists in order to decide how to handle it. Eventually, the crown was removed, the root canal retreated (due to severe infection), and a temporary crown placed on it (about 3 years ago).

The dentist suspected a possible crack in the tooth so we still haven't put on a permanent crown on the tooth.

The area still hurts periodically and I (and the dentist) aren't sure about another permanent crown or an extraction.

In the meantime, it seems I have a recurrent gum infection in the area. Sometimes it goes away... other times, I can feel swelling into my tonsil/throat area.

I'm also 4.5 months pregnant so don't want to do anything extreme to treat this right now.

Are there any remedies I can take to help a gum infection and possible tooth fracture? And is there any way to figure out for sure if I should get a permanent crown or just have it extracted?

Thanks!

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Tooth problems sometimes can be too distressing. Homeopathy can help but need lot more health details. If interested you may answer the following questionnaire. I will try my level best to give relief to you.

Fractures can not be repaired by medicines. If placing crown is puzzling so much you may get the tooth extracted later and opt for bridge or partial denture which will solve your problem efficiently.

Thank you for your reply. Here are responses to your questions:

1. The trouble started about 7-8 years ago. It is located on the lower right side of my bottom jaw. The same location where I also have nerve damage from a bad wisdom tooth extraction over 20 years ago.

2. My main life-related health issue is related to having viral meningitis 15 years ago. Something in my entire physiology changed and I became hyper sensitive to pain and have a 'heightened' nervous system response. (I'm super aware of things going on in my body). I also am considered a homeopathic 'prover' and easily prove remedies. As for western medicine... I can barely take any medication without some reaction. If I have to take something, a 'children's' dose of it will suffice. As for weather preferences... I'm most comfortable in a moderate climate (although I live in a Mediterannean climate and it is often too hot for my comfort).

3. As for me in general... I am 42 and expecting my second child. I am outwardly relatively young looking, optimistic and strive to be a positive person. However, I have struggled most of my lifetime to become this way and have more 'natural' tendencies towards negativity (even depression in early years). I have worked very hard to shift these traits and find that being positive comes more naturally to me now. I used to be in relatively good shape (pre-pregnancy), but had hernias during my first pregnancy and symphiolysis during my second one... so I've been relatively stagnant for nearly two years. As for my personality, I'm pretty driven and perfectionistic (in some ways) but also have a great sense of humor and know how to laugh and enjoy life. I do struggle with fears of losing loved ones, since many I've been closed with have passed away in the decade. And have intrusive thoughts of 'bad things happening' to either myself or those that I love.

As for my upbringing, I was raised in an upper class area but in an emotionally dysfunctional home. (Not physically abusive in any way, but emotionally unsupportive, negative, and neglectful). My brother was sick for three years (nearly died) as a baby when I was 5 years old and that had a great impact on my life. It made me grow up very fast and I felt like an adult by age 6.

As for what others would say about me... most would say I'm kind, empathic, intuitive, funny, warm, helpful, and nurturing. Those that know me very closely, would also say I'm a bit witty, maybe a little too easily frustrated and impatient - but with good intentions - and a loyal/good friend.

Hope this is helpful! Because I am in quite a bit of discomfort with this tooth and have tried many things unsuccessfully up to this point.

Thanks!

Thank you very much for your reply. I have ordered it and hope to have it very soon.

I also just want to confirm that taking 5 pills at once is safe during pregnancy?

Thanks again!

Sorry, I saw your post just now as it had gone somewhere at the bottom.

Yes, the dose is absolutely safe. I hope you might have got the medicine by now.

Hi dr k,

FYI in the west, we only have up to 30c in stores. Anything above that potency, and anything not a common remedy has to be ordered online and takes a week or so for delivery.

And in many areas there are no places that carry remedies at all.

Oh! well. I had heard or read about this somewhere. thanks for reminding.

Mentioning location etc in case detail can help us a bit to make it convenient for them. People are reluctant to give good information.

I hope she must have ordered remedy and waiting for delivery.

Thank you for your reply. I live in Israel and fortunately we do have many homeopathic pharmacies that prepare orders within just a few days. I picked it up this evening and will take it as prescribed asap. I'll update you very soon.

Thanks again!

I took the remedy this morning as prescribed. And so far, my tooth does feel better. But more then that... I feel so much more calm and relaxed. Additionally, I feel more in touch with my feelings instead of frustration or anger. So far... this is a great remedy! Thank you! :-)

I did have one question though. I use a homemade cleaning spray that contains menthe oil. I'd used it very briefly before recalling your instructions not to be around strong odors. Do you think this will possibly cancel the remedy at all? Or is it fine?

Thanks!

It's ok but preferably avoid them and look for alternatives.

Hi Dr. Kulkarni,

It's been a week and a half since I took the remedy. At first, my tooth felt a little better. I also felt much more relaxed and calm in general. I feel the remedy helped a great deal with my overall well-being and I also gained some additional emotional awareness that's been very helpful.

After a few days though, the same pain returned to my tooth along with a slightly puffy gum (as before) and a very sore throat on the right side of my throat only. I'm not sure if there really is a slight fracture in the tooth or not...

Should I try another dose or just have the tooth extracted? And if I do go for an extraction (while pregnant), do you know what I can take for it?

As a side note, I've also been extra tired with a reduced appetite...

Thanks!

I hope / guess you dont smoke.

How is you intolerance to heat or cold in general?

Are you thirsty / thirst-less?

How is you orientation / inclination towards your work / duties?

You like hot or cold things to eat or drink? Any special cravings or aversions?
