Baby distressed and crying out after eating

Recently my 3 week old started to become increasingly distressed and crying/grunting after eating. He's currently getting a mix of half breastmilk half organic formula.

He tenses all his muscles and face turns bright red. He starts grunting then yelping that turns into crying.

if anyone has any ideas please let me know, we are in a cycle where he eats, is upset, finally calms dow then is ready to eat again and the whole thing starts over. It is very exhausting and we need help.

Side note, I've been giving him chamomile tea in his bottle and started an infant probiotic .

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Its highly recommended not to give (feed) any thing other than mother's breast milk.

First, you need to stop the tea.
In adults, after 2 cups of chamomile tea, instead of soothing it will irritate.
Baby is too young for this.

You also have to rule out the organic formula as a cause. Was this the feeding from the start? And does your diet include any gassy or spicy foods?

You can try giving a half tab of nat phos 6x dissolved in a couple tablespoons of water 3 times a day,

Before feeding. It is best to give this
Half hour before, but I realize it may be hard to time this.

There are other remedies for colic but I think you need to see if it is the formula.

If nat phos helps you keep reducing doses until no longer needed. Try it for a couple days only to see reaction.

Sorry to hear about the condition.

You have some good advice above about staying exclusively on breast milk if possible.

Also, please describe what you mean by "He tenses all his muscles" ? Does he make his body get into a particular position? Please describe the shape of his body when he is all tensed up.

How is his general temperament like?

What else soothes him when he is having this ? Being held ? Being carried? What else works?

Problem starts immediately after eating?

Thanks for responding sameervermani. Trust me when I say if straight breast milk was an option, that is what we would be doing. Unfortunatly due to some complications during delivery he ended up in the NICU. Here he was given bottles and no matter what we do he will not latch. My wife pumps non stop but cannot get enough

As far as there tensing, it occurs right after eating and is accompanied by grunting and crying. He seems to want to be held upright against our chest with his knees up. He will pull his knees up then kick them straight. He also seems to want to curl his head kind of like a fetal position. It seems he is slightly less upset If being carried, in particular carried in a sling against one of us

Normally he is a really easy baby. Sits and watches and sleeps. He only gets upset after eating it seems and it appears to be getting worse. Also, he seems to go from periods of being in pain to frustration.

Lastly I will be trying different formulas as well.

Thanks !

Please describe his stool cycle, and any relation between the pain and the stool. Any noises during or before stool?

What is his date of birth ?

Also, have you tried making him lie down on his stomach and seen the impact of that during a pain episode?

As far as stool, he has been having about 2 per day, generally yellowish green. Doesn't seem to have pain during but does grunt and get red in the face during. It seems he is having increased gas as of lately as well. Lying him on his stomach does seem to give him slight relief for a short time.

His birthday is 11/18/16

Okay, let's try some Colocynthis 6c.

Next time, 10 mins before feeding, I want you to give him a dose of Colocynthis 6c as below.

Dissolve 2 pellets in 250 ml spring water (let them melt in water for 15 mins and shake gently once melted), and then rub about half a teaspoon on his wrist (palm side where the wrist skin is thin, and veins are visible), till it gets absorbed.

Please report how he did after that dose.

Thank you for the treatment recommendation. It appears to have helped him. Last night he ate and went right back to sleep!

In the morning I did no do the remedy and he was his normal distressed self.

How should I continue ?

Thank you again for the help

Excellent.

Please give that solution (I hope you still have it with you), 6 hard hits on your palm and repeat the process 2 times today. Once now, and once at night. Remember to hit the 6c solution 6 times before dosing.

Report back tomorrow morning.

Also, please procure Colocynthis 12c or 15c. If for some reason, you can not get those potencies, please get hold of a 30c.

Also, you might want to make the following gripe water at home. Use everything organic and please make it WITHOUT CHAMOMILLE.

After doing what you stated above here's what I've noticed. He seems to have slight improvement at the feeding where he is givin the remedy however he is still acting distressed. During the feeding where he has not recieved the remedy he is acting the same as always. Overall I'd say I've noticed slight improvement.

I can get 30c at anytime from the health food store near me. 12/15c I would have to order

You can repeat the same process with a 30c, 2 times today, remember to hit the solution 6 times before the second dose. Please report back tomorrow morning.

After 2 days at 30c, his symptoms seems completely gone for the most part.

Thank you so much for the help!

My only question now is what do i do moving forward?

Tgaruccio321 7 years ago
This is excellent stuff :)

You can stop dosing now.

Keep a 200c at hand. If the symptoms come back, talk to me.

Good luck !
