The ABC Homeopathy Forum

8-year-old EXTREME clothing sensitivity - please we need a solution!

Since she was a toddler, my daughter has not been able to tolerate the majority of pants and more recently underpants. She used to beg for clothes she loved at the store, only to get them home and find she could not tolerate wearing them. Now, we go to the store, try on 20 pairs of different kinds of leggings, and none are acceptable.

She is most picky about the feeling of the fabric on her skin and the waistband.

She often describes clothes as being "itchy" or "too tight" or "too soft." The elastic waistband is a big deal - it can't be too thick or it feels too "tight" (even if it is not tight).

She wears one pair of leggings now, and they are 97% polyester 3% spandex, but this exact material is not okay for other leggings depending on a number of factors, from where the crotch lies, to how thick the waistband is, to how prominent the seams are.

She will wear frilly dresses for dress-up without complaint, but she does not want to wear anything frilly in the car. In fact, it seems sitting down is an aggravation for all her clothing complaints. She will wear a slinky sweatshirt from house to car, remove it immediately once in the car, and throw it on the floor. She complains of being cold but would rather deal with that discomfort than wear warmer clothes.

She does NOT like the soft feeling of fleece or soft sweatshirts and seems to prefer loose-fitting clothing, very worn clothing, and slinky materials. She will wear daddy's old cotton tees, even though they have seams and are not very soft because they are big and loose. She is more tolerable of short sleeve shirts and sleeveless dresses than pants or long sleeves.

The front seam on underwear she finds intolerable, and she doesn't like seamless underwear because they feel tight. Around the house, she wants to wear a dress or oversized tee with no underwear. In public, she will wear the one pair of leggings with a tank top or tee.

She only wants to wear a one-piece bathing suit because she hates the waistbands of two-piece, and she wants it to be loose and sag in the crotch, which is not okay with me because it leaves her too exposed.

Some other notes about her:

Appearance:
She is VERY small for her age, thin and short but proportional and healthy looking. Her lack of growth is another big concern for me. She has beautiful milky fair skin (tans bronze in summer), white-blonde hair and blue eyes.

Medical History:
Vaccinated on schedule up to age 3, few since then. No antibiotics ever. 90+ percentile for height and weight until 7 months when she nearly plateaued and is now less than 3rd percentile. She was breastfed exclusively for 5 months and continued nursing until around 17 months. She had a very sweaty head as an infant while breastfeeding, but she doesn't seem to get sweaty anymore. She had a strong gag reflex and would frequently vomit as an infant, up to about 6 months old. She walked late at 14 months old. She has had LOTS of tooth decay, and has needed 4 extractions of primary molars due to severe decay and/or fillings that remained infected, caused abscesses and ate away the tooth root and surrounding bone. We have recently reduced sugar and started cell salts and cod liver oil. Last year we saw a homeopath, and he went through several different remedies, but most seemed to add new complaints without improving anything for her tooth abscesses. We had tried hepar sulph 6x at first, then silicea 6x with no change before seeing homeopath, who had us go through Calc Phos 30, Sulphur 30, Staphysagria 30, Platinum 1M over the course of 3 months. The worst/most obvious provings were from Sulphur (itchy rashes) and Staphysagria (horrible screaming fits and throwing things - VERY out of character for her). She also developed a severe facial tic after one of the remedies, but I can't remember which one. It was several times per minute, and she said she still feels the urges of the tic to this day (8 months later) but resists the urge. She has recently started coughing out tonsil stones every few weeks.

Mental:
Very bright, was reading and writing before age 3. Concerned with what others think of her. Wants to be popular and for everyone to see her talents. She pretends she is on stage, putting on dancing shows, and talks about going on television to show off her hula hooping skills. She is self-driven and very smart with a large vocabulary and excellent writing skills. Very artistic and creative with impressive expression in all forms. She is a self-driven learner and does not like to be taught new things until she feels she can easily master it. She hates to feel less than and will bring out all the tears and abandon learning if it doesn't come easy to her (especially averse to math but piano and tying shoes also). It's not uncommon for her to go away and practice on her own, then come show off what she can do. Loves freedom. Loves to perform but does not enjoy it if she can't also be the director.

Emotional:
Loves to be with friends. She is conscientious and respectful of others because she knows it is right, but she doesn't seem to have true empathy. Seeing or hearing about suffering children has her questioning and saying it is terrible, but it somehow seems hollow like she doesn't really feel moved but is just making logical observations. Talks often of death or morbid things as if they are no big deal or not grave subject matter. For example, she said once at age 6 that it was good to have a garbage disposal and described in detail just how we would kill an intruder, take his skin off, chop him up, and put him down the disposal -- ending this description with, "And then we would of course wash our hands (giggle)." She has never liked to have dirty hands. She is fascinated by religion and has lots of conversations and drawings about such. She gravitates toward loud colors and clothing: glittery, sparkly, gold, silver, neon, happy - but also really likes blues and black. Hates brown. Doesn't seem to ever pick red. Her favorite color has always changed every day.

Behavioral:
TALKS AND TALKS. First word at 5 months old and hasn't stopped. Loves to have conversation and is very boisterous when playing with siblings and friends. She often plays in character, not as herself. She has alter personas and names herself different things when she slips into different characters. Her characters are so convincing that our 2-year-old will address her as if she were that character, "Hi, Hoppy," or "Look at Hoppy! She's silly!" And even when upset and crying, she will say, "Hoppy bit my sandwich." For the most part, she has been a very easy child to raise, getting along well with almost everyone and ALWAYS well behaved for other parents and instructors (though she may complain about them later). She is respectful and wants to abide by rules. She craves attention and can be quite dramatic and tearful when she's offended, especially if she feels slighted or ignored. She is very sacrificial and sweet, and has always been this way. A giver. A caretaker. She is a hard worker and will do her chores diligently and without much complaint. She sometimes tries to reason her way out of responsibility, but never throws a fit or gets defiant. HATES to see others not respecting each other or not following rules and will tell other kids on the playground they may not climb up the slide. She likes having power and being in charge.

Food cravings:
Loves chocolate. Loves burgers. Loves salad with apple cider vinegar and tomatoes. Loves eggs. Loves soft bagels with butter. Loves lentil tomato based soup. Loves ice cream. Often asks for "real food" instead of cereal or other cold foods. No real food aversions aside from melons and cucumbers. Doesn't care much for milk but will drink it, especially chocolate milk. She basically will try anything and always eats full meals without complaint.

Related notes:
She will not walk barefoot in grass. Even as a toddler with shoes on, she hated being set down on grass and would cry. She has always been fine on pavement and hard surfaces. She does not like water splashing her skin. She hates splash parks, but she loves the pool. She will tolerate showers but loves the bath. She likes hot water. She sleeps nude with a worn plush blanket that is very lightweight. She sleeps from 9pm to 8 or 9am and has restful sleep but seldom dreams.

I hope this gives enough information to help figure out what could help my little girl.

You can try Kali.Mur 200c .. 4 drops once only in life. No more no repeat etc.

Day two:
You can try silicea 30c .. three times a day for two days only in a separate disposable glass with some water in it.

Don't eat or drink anything 30 minutes before and after taking medicine etc don't use coffee or mint etc. Don't place medicine near strong perfumes etc

Notice changes and improvements carefully and update after 4-7 days.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I really appreciate your help!!!

I'm sorry, I forgot to mention that she also did about a week of Silicea 200c 2x per day for gum abscesses in early Dec, then one dose of >Silicea 1M in mid Dec. Her gum began opening up to expel the tooth. We had her examined by a dentist, and he said 3 teeth were so diseased beneath the fillings that they needed to be removed. They have all been removed now.

I'm not sure if this changes your recommendation as I know Silicea is one to be careful with.

Also, would the absence of cough change the recommendation at all? We will get the remedies and wait to administer until next week, as we have company visiting from out of state this week, and I'd rather not risk any possible aggravations or provings just in case. Next week, her cough may be gone, so I just wondered what you would recommend if that's the case.

I don't know if it is already an aggravation, you are thinking new symptoms etc ..

And 1M potency is far bigger potency than 30c .. first liquid potency. I don't know how you can even say that you are afraid of to give 30c, that it might cause aggravation etc.

I have no idéa now what to suggest for her. You may try lachesis 30c .. but after reading this remedy yourself .. if matches with her .. mag.phos 200c .. One does only .. 4 drops only is the second suggestion again after reading this remedy .. and Nat.sulph is the last suggestion. If she had malaria in the past, or any liver disease etc you can consider Nat.sulph 200c .. One does only. 4 drops once only.

I'm not afraid about a reaction from the silicea, as I think it might be her constitutional remedy, but I wasn't sure about the other remedy as I'm not familiar with it, and I haven't come across it before as indicated for any of her conditions.

I don't think she had any aggravation from the silicea, but I think it was working to rid her body of the diseased tooth. She had been suffering from gum abscesses for over a year, and the old dentist kept saying if no pain, no need to do anything. I was hoping silicea would help rid her of the infection, and I think it was acting to do that by opening up the gum to loosen and expel the tooth. Instead of waiting for that to finish, we had a new dentist x-ray and pull the diseased teeth. The decay had proceeded into the roots of her teeth, totally eating away one side of the root and some of the surrounding bone.

Teeth troubles are NOT a new thing, though. This has been going on for over 2 years. And the clothing issues are definitely NOT new either. They have been present practically her entire life, though much worse in the past year.

The only "acute" symptom at this point is the cough, which is why I wondered if that might have been the indication for the kali mur 200c, to clear up the cough before moving to silicea, or if there were other reasons for that choice.

She has never had malaria or any other liver diseases.

My main concerns for her are
#1 extreme clothing sensitivity
#2 poor growth
#3 weak teeth

It's funny you mentioned lachesis. Actually, the best match from this site's "Remedy Finder" for her most prominent features was lachesis, but I may need to look into it further, because after a quick skim of the remedy description it hadn't stood out as a good match at first. I will revisit and reevaluate in light of your suggestion.

If I remember correctly, lach seemed to indicate that the intolerance of clothing was due to pain in the abdomen from inflammation, but she has absolutely no problems like that, and it all seems to be linked to how things feel against her skin, externally, not due to internal factors.

I am attaching the grid for the Remedy Finder on this site in case that helps anything else jump out at you. **EDIT** apparently it's too big to attach, but can be viewed here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1CRe7gWewe03fRuQMUUpj7Pu2quy....
Please know how much I really appreciate you taking the time to help us through this!

1-
You can read any remedy online. Just Google it.

2-
You can add another remedy and that is calc.phos .. read it at first.

3-
You forgot to mention her fourth problem (you mentioned only three) and that is coughing.

4-
The link you gave not working .. file doesn't exist.

5-
Thank you so much for appreciating my efforts.
