5 week old infant with bad congestion

I need some advice - I have a 5 week old infant who I think caught a cold and has been very congested since. He has white and thick mucus which seems to be at the back of his throat and nasal passage causing him to sometimes choke and cough and he is always sounding nasally and congested. I have brought him to the GP and they have recommended long term use of baby panadol which I find difficult to agree with especially since he has no infections and his air passage is clear. Is there anything I can give him to help him clear that congestion? I have tried aconite 6c when we first heard him sounding congested a week ago. He isn't a happy baby at present and is rather unsettled and very jerky in his sleep and sometimes get awoken by his own congestion (choking). Help!

You can give to the child:

ANTIM TART. 30C

Three doses in a gap of one hour each...then stop...no more med.

It will give sufficient power to the child's lungs and air passages to clear out.

Mind you, on the day you give the med to the child avoid milk, curds etc as the child will be throwing up the phlem from the system.

Instead give him hot chocloate, gulucose in water for energy.

Milk and milk products make phlem in the system.

Hi Pankaj,

Thanks for advice. One question though, I don't know how to NOT give him milk though. He is on formula and is only 5 weeks old, so that is his food supplement. I add colostrum powder to his milk though.

I forgot to mention that I have given him pulsatilla 6c and hepar sulph 6c which did not help him.

It has been recorded that mother's brest milk is the most wholesome feed for a baby.

Stop all other meds and give ANTIM TART as suggested.

Thank you for advice. Baby is on Karicare Gold - whey based formula. Breastfed for a week.

He's a very impatient baby - wakes up and demands for milk and if not enough, he cries furiously and is hard to appease.

I will try ant tart as advised although I think it would be hard to remove the formula as its his only source of food.

That is okay....but when baby well...breast feed as much as you can.

A baby is a gift of God to the parents!!

I also have a 5 week old infant, and when she was about 2 weeks old I noticed she was having difficulties breathing, and sounded very congested. I took her in to the dr. office they told me just t o sucction her out. it still continued, and 4 doctors later, I was finally reffered to a Ear, nose and throat dr. and I found she was not congested she has laryngomalacia. which is a weekness in to voice box. the flap is not developed enough. This caused her to sound very congested, and she also had a hard time feeding. I know how frustrating it can be not having a answe when you know something is wrong with your child. I'm not sure if this is what your child has but the symptoms sound similar and it may help..

No, baby is fine after ant tart. Worked like magic with ant tart 6c. Osteopath said nasal passage was congested and after one session he was better. I followed up with one dose of ant tart and he was fine.
