Calendula Ointment

How to make Calendula ointment.

Can be used for burns, injuries and insect bites etc.

Crush calendula (marigold) flowers in a blender.
Extract the juice by squeezing the pulp in a clean cloth.
Mix the juice in any vegetable oil and add some wax (equal proportions)
Warm up the mixture containing juice, wax and oil so the wax melts. (Don’t overheat, just enough warm to melt up the wax)
Stir the liquid to mix up the contents.
Let the mixture to cool down.

Your Calendula Ointment is ready to use.

Oh great. Mr. Giri Lal ...you mean the..... marigold flowers .....we use to garland the dieties in the temples! .....That is calendula ??

Pankaj, try some marigold petals in your tea. Put the petals in the sieve then pour tea in the cup.

I believes, if one need arnica but calendula is growing in the home, then try it first.

Dr. Girilal, welcome to this forum.

Do you recommend putting Calandula in the massage or hair oil. And if you recommend it, juice won't mix with oil, in that case how to make Calendula oil. Calendula grows in my home all season.

Agree , Calendula is Magic

Not 'marigold", you want 'pot marigold'.

Yes Pot Marigold should be used but French Merigold (Tagetes patula) also possesses same medicinal properties.

Calendula fits well with Arnica, Bellis Perinis and Tagetes patula. All three plants can me mix breed with each other, that's why we see many colors and types around us.

Hoolio: Mixing Calandula in the oil is a good idea. To do this soak a cotton cloth with the flower juice and dry it in the shade. Put this cloth in the oil and you got your oil.

This is the easiest and best of all.

are you referring to store bought Marigold flower juice?

Or do we need to make our own using flowers?

Why not make it fresh.

Finding the flower may be a challenge. Where I live, people knowledgeabe with plants are hard to come by. Nurseries are a dying breed here too.

I have grown marigold from seeds before, but they don't last long because I can't take care of them due to health problems. The only things I grow are suculant plants which are very difficult to kill. LOL

I have a plant called mother-in-law which I've had for about 20 years and there have been times when it has gone about 6 months without watering when I have been to sick to take care of it. LOL

Ms Mother-in-law is lucky that it is a plant.

Any knowledge of a plant called 'father -in-law' ?????

I grow calendula during the summer. It is a pretty annual flower and has sentimental value for me.

I never have very many flowers at one time. Is it possible to freeze the flowers so I have more to work with when I'm ready to make ointment?

Thanks!

Daisy, Freezing is no good it distroys the fragrance, you can dry it in the shade. Soak them for a night before putting it to blender.

Pat I checked about Mother-in-law-plant and it turned out that it is the famous Snake plant. Couldn't find if it has any medicinal values though. No wonder why it is called Mother-in-law, may be it can survive without water or even light unlikely all mother-in-laws.

Hello girital

Yes. It is also called snake plant. I originally bought it for my office over 20 years ago A woman I worked with had a degree in botony and new plants very well. She told me what it was called and fixed it up a little for me.

Yes. This plant has kept me company through hard times and many years of dark times. Many years I never even opened the blinds. And this plant is the only thing that has never died without water or sunlight.

Now I keep my blinds opened 24 hours a day to keep an eye on my vehicle and for my dog to help keep an eye on my property. LOL

I later purchased a couple more similiar to this one but they didn't even survive one season.

So must be careful when buying one. I have never seen a plant like this one again.

I'm not sure it has medicinal property, but it obviously has spiritual meaning for someone like me. I'm very much like the plant.

Girilal

This plant has lived in my house for at least 20 years. I keep it in my front room. The front of my house has a porch, which means that in the summers I don't get direct sunlight until late in the afternoon. So you can imagine how dark it gets in my house with closed blinds. So for at least 10 years this snake plant lived in the dark and on very little water. It is a very quiet plant that doesn't ask for much just like me. It never died but I'm sure it's growth has been stunt. I'm a late bloomer too and have also survived on very little. In recent years, I have taken care of it so much better and it has grown quite a bit and it now has babies growing around it. It gives me a real good feeling.LOL

How ironic. Never gave it any thought to all this symbology until now that you inspired me.

I have noticed if a plant survives in an environment, any sudden change to it upsets it. Like Pothos can grwo anywhere but once it adopts room environment, if planted in sunlight it dies in no time.

girilal last decade
I don't know of any plants that can go abruptly from inside to outside into full sun. They need to acclimate or they develop a plant's version of sunburn. It is part of the 'hardening off' process for seedlings which are started inside.

Thanks for the calendula info. I have some flowers ready to harvest.

sajjad,

Very, very funny.

Are you a father-in-law plant?

Girilal
I would be happy to send you a baby which I'm confident would survive in the mail.
