Silly question? Pet Homeopathy?

Does anyone know if homeopathy works for dogs? I am a convert after giving my baby chamomilla and Hylands colic tablets and seeing what a difference it made in her reflux and her temperament. I have a really high strung terrier that barks at everything. She is otherwise a great dog, but barks at every little noise and has a really shrill bark that wakes my baby and toddler. I am so fed up with her. Anything I could try to help calm her down a little?

Sorry if this is a silly question.

Thanks!
Laura

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
ABsolutly. There are those who train soley in the treatment of animals. You can probably find discounted animal books online places like amazon and chapters. Or try homeopathy book stores. Sorry I can recommend any. Not my bag..

Sycotic, the same personality profiles apply to animals. If Laura were describing her child, would you have a better idea of what to recommend? LOL

Laura, an excellent book is Donald Hamilton's paperback, Homeopathic Care for Cats and Dogs: Small Doses for Small Animals.

I only have treated a couple of animal. Both showed improvment and yes you just adapt and rely heavily on the owners because they probably know the breed better and so on. Then look for the strange rare or peculiar sx. I met I cant recommend any good books. In my past experience with noisy dogs my remedy has been one more of a permanent nature. ? Animals have personalites?
Im kidding right? HaHa

A wonderful book is Philip Bailey's 'Homeopathic Psychology - Personality Profiles of the Major Constitutional Remedies'.

I consulted with my homeopath about my two cats. I didn't bring them with me, but I did have some representative photographs and had thought quite a while about how to describe them.

One cat she was quite sure was Calc. carb. That evening I read Bailey's chapter on CC. It was really an eye opener for me. There was much about my cat's temperament I had not understood. There were also a number of important clues I never gave my homeopath about her, that were central to CC. At any rate, I was stunned at how exactly Bailey's accounting of CC described my cat, probably better than for most people.

Animals present more clues than people might think. The dosing may be different, but the concepts appear to be the same.

Laura, the following homeopathy discussion forums have veterinary subforums:

I was at the health food store today and over heard the sales clerk tell a customer that Rescue Remedy (Bach flowers) is good for nervous dogs. I had heard of this before also.

I give my dog pulsitilla 30c when she is scared and traumatized by fireworks. I dissolve 4 pellets in a cup of water and give her about a teaspoon of the water.

I store the rest in the fridge in case I have to use it again.

I have given her pulsitilla 200 before also. That gives her much longer results.

I really don't know how to conclude which remedy to give a pet. This remedy was recommended by a homeopath we were being treated by.

How do we know whether or not our pets are moody or impulsive, etc? I have no clue. All I can say is that I have a great dog and she is very well behaved.

I believe that if the owner takes homeopathy then it is likely the same remedies the owner benefits from, the pets will also benefit from.

But if your pet gets a bump on the head, he would benefit from Arnica same as humans. If he gets a splinter or class stuck in him Silicea is the remedy same as for humans.

Extremely informative information. I also struggle to understand how I would describe my dog.

Thanks so much for your input.

I will have to look into the resources your provded.

A dog should be easy, or at least fathomable. Cats and dogs have the same range of emotions as people. I think that is why the standard rubrics work. It is also why a good human homeopath may be more successful with an animal than a less experienced homeopathic vet.

A friend is dealing with a sick fish. From his descriptions, I really don't know what to make of it but I think it is a mentals issue (loss of another fish but not necessarily grief). Fish have a different social hierarchy, so human rubrics may not work, or there may be some that are missing.

Thanks for the reference to the yahoo group.

For momto2: When I saw your post I wanted to share that I have been taking Hylands Calms Forte' for about 1 yr now and that product convinced me more that homeopathy is a very valid medicine.

I am challenged with this fibromyalgia stuff and sleep is difficult for us. I had tried other OTC stuff and even a prescription drug, and then when I found Calms it worked so well and still does. So I'm a believer also. Now to find some other remedy cures which I'm working on with many on this forum.
