Lip Swelling - cause unknown
Hi All, I hope someone out there can help. My lips have been swollen for over 2 months. It is mostly the right side upper lip, with some right side lower lip and just in the last few days the left side seems to be getting more swollen. I have had all kinds of conventional medicine tests done and they have found nothing. Some days are better than others, but I have not been able to figure out any particular thing that makes it better or worse. Emotionally I have been so affected by this as I look rather disfigured.I purchased some Apis Mell 30 after reading that it will help with swelling, but I'm really not sure how to take it or how often or for how long, or if that is even the right remedy. I took 5 of them a few hours ago, with no sign of any change. How soon should I see improvement if there was going to be any? I really really don't have the money to go to a homepathic doctor, so I am trying to figure this out on my own. Any help from anyone is greatly apprecaited!!

Check if it is a tooth infection causing it !!
Otherwise, it can be an infection in the blood.
Try Apis Mel 30 C ...four times a day...when swelling begins to subside make it twice a day and gradually stop.
Other med that can be required is Baryta Carb....if you have a bad throat problem....may be tonsilitis.
If the glands around the ears are also swollen...then Baryta Carb is the answer.

Thank you so much Pankaj! I have been to the dentist and they say all looks fine with my teeth. I have no swelling around my glands, so I guess I will stick with the Apis Mel for now. How many should I take at a time? Just 1 - four times a day?

I thought I would add a picture if that would help anyone with any additional suggestions. I am so desperate to find something that works. Actually, this picture shows that the right side bottom is very much swollen. Sometimes it goes back and forth between the top and the bottom, but it is mainly concentrated on the right side. There also appears to be a droop, but a neurologist said it is not Bells Palsy, I have no kind of paralysis. I think the droop look is caused by the way in which it is swelling. Thanks again for any help!!

It looks like a sting of an insect/ant etc.
Maybe it happened while you were asleep.
Take Apis Mel as suggested

Thank you all for your help! I have a quick question. My Dr. mentioned trying a cortisone shot at my next visit, which is tomorrow. If I go ahead with the shot do you know if that will hurt the homeopathy I've started??

When in doubt give the patient a corticosteroid. Preferably by injection and watch the results which can be disastrous.
You are advised NOT to take that 'shot' It can only do you harm and even if it does help it will be at great cost to your face and body.
Keep with the Homeopathy. I too agree with the others that it has to be due to an insect bite.
If the Apis does not help in a few days you can use Arnica 30c in the wet dose which is made by inserting 3 pellets of Arnica 30c into a 500ml bottle of spring water and you will take a teaspoonful 3 times daily each time after shaking the bottle hard.

Thank you Joe for your help!! I will pass on the shot. I will try the Arnica if there is no improvement in a few more days. What do you think about the Natrum Mur that Robina mentioned above? Also, is it possible that swelling from a bite could still be around after 2 months? I'm just so mystified as to what happened to me. It did appear overnight, so it is certainly possible that something bit me in my sleep, but there is no evidence of a bite and I just wasn't sure if it would still be swollen after 2 months. Thanks so much!

Please try Nat Mur 200. It will give you relief.

Nat. Mur 6x tissue salt twice daily will help. But one should be careful with water intake(shouldn't reduce intake suddently or increase it suddently during the salt) before taking the remedy in 200 potency. THis could be done along with apis.

Hi All, I wanted to give an update. After going doctor to doctor for the past 2.5 months, I finally saw a dermatologist yesterday that thinks he knows what is wrong. It is a rare disorder called Cheilits Granulomatosa, which is basically lip swelling that can turn into a lot of other problems. He will be able to definitvely diagnose this after my biopsy next week. There is no known cause and the only treatment is lots of cortisone shots and other drugs. I am begging if there are any homeopathic doctors out there reading this, if you could look this disease up and offer any suggestions for a homeopathic remedy, I would so greatly appreciate it. For the past year I have been working very hard to live a healthy and holisitc life and do not want to start on a path of a lot of drugs. I have been using Apis Mell for the past 1.5 weeks with no change at all. Others have suggested Arnica and Nat Mur, but I haven't tried either yet. Any suggestions are welcome, but I'd really love to hear from a homeopathic expert. I am so emotionally bothered by this as the swelling seems to be getting worse not better. My daughter has a lip swelling for no cause. It appears the swelling is on the upper lip on one side. Please suggest any homeopathic medicine. Thank you in advance!

You can experiment with Apis 6c and Arnica 30c in the Wet dose made by inserting 3 drops of the remedy in Alcohol into 2 separate bottles each 500ml of spring water . You will take 2 tablespoons of each remedy thrice daily leaving half hour between each remedy and report progress in a week.
I do not recommend a biopsy as there is nothing to be gained and there is every possibility of an increase in the swelling.

Thank you so much Telescope and Joe De Livera! I'm very grateful for your help. Will update you after I give her the homeopathic remedy. The doctors here in NY are wanting to put her on prednisone. I am very scared of allopathic treatments with all the experiences I had for her in the past. Thank you again!
