Cough - nothing working
Just wanted to pick your brains quickly.My son came down with a cough yesterday. Sounds croupy. Coughed all night and all day today. Nothing seems to ever help him with his cough.Cough - better while eating, better with motion,
Worse - sitting down, lying down,
Drinking does not cause cough, cold air does not cause cough.
Spongia is the only remedy I find that is better with motion and better while eating but I gave him three doses of Spongia 30c with o improvement. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Helpful is to add a mental symptom. What has changed (emotionally) since the cough. ie more clingy... Anything that is out of character with the cough may guide you to your remedy.

Give a dose of drosera 30 along with two doses each of bell30 and spongia 30 for three days . Report result and change in symptoms will ask for new remedy

Phosporus, did not work. As with so many remedies on my son they all seem to work at the beginning but quickly lose effectiveness. Warm air aggrevates.
His cough is definetely a bark. Still tight. His nose has been leaking all day. First it was milky white this morning, then once it was thicker and green/yellow (puls, hepar colour) and now it is clear. I have never had sucess in stopping a cough of his. Here is a mental picture of my son.
Health Wise - Ryan is borderline anemic. He had adnoid problems but cured homeopathically. Go goes through seemingly weeks/months at a time where he sniffs uncontrollably, yet nothing ever comes out and his passages are clear. When this stage is happening he clears his throat non stop and has two short coughs, all day long. Many different remedies tried for this nose/throat problem but nothing has ever worked.
Ryan is extremely intelligent. Math comes naturally, learns easily, very perceptive,Does great in school with little effort. Great at sports as well, very athleticly built.
Personality he come across as kind of stuck up when meeting new kids. He warms up slowly but does warm up. Has lots of friends at school but plays mainly with 4 boys of his age. He does play sports and games with kids older than him at school.
He has a very strong personality. Has to be the boss and gives instructions and likes to control what is happening even with older kids and parents.
He is very very very sensitive and can cry at the drop of a hat. Suspected emotional instability from his mothers side of family.
Cannot entertain himself at all. Always wants someone around. Whines alot when asked to do something.

loves ice cream, wants it as a bed time snack. Loves spaghetti, pizza, pasta meat and potatoes,. Loves most foods spicy, salty, sweet.

its 9:45pm. Had to give him Benlyn an hour ago as I couldnt stop this today with my best effort. An hour after cough medicine hes still coughing violently.

Are you doing wet dosing? Some people respond to wet dosing better than dry pellets. Try 30c., 3 pellets in 4 oz. of water. Put in water bottle, bang on the palm of your hand 10 times and give 1 tsp. Keep in fridge. Redose if necessary. Stop if improvement.

The different medicines for cough depend upon the symptoms. After every dose after 10 mins take 4 tabs of kali mur 6X in warm water. This acts like cough syrup.
Check if inside of throat is red. If dark red give him merc-iodide-ruber 30 along with Bell30/spongia 30/HS 30,
depending upon the type of cough.

Coughed through a good part of the night. Even with Benlyn. This morning coughing non stop again. Hes losing his voice at this point. Still barking, sounded like it was loosening up this morning but I just called home and its tight again. Coughing every twenty to thirty seconds non stop. Made up a wet dose this morning before I left for work. ( I know this isnt the right way of doing things, but were getting desperate here)
Lachesis 30, Coccus Cacti 30, Merc Iod RU 30(as his back of throat is dark red). Also 4 tabs of Kali Mur 6x with a little warm water 10 minutes after the dose.
He is being given this every 30 minutes and STILL not touching the cough. He is getting extremely warn out and upset. Any more thoughts please?

I would recommend that you see your pediatrician immediately as the red throat you spoke of and his coughing spells require some action which we cannot advise you about without actually seeing the patient.
I believe that he will want an antibiotic like Azithromycin which is very effective for this form of infection which I believe he now has.
Please act immediately.

Hey Joe, thanks for the concern. We were probably going to head this way tonight if nothing has improved.
I advised my wife to administer a dose of Bella 200 to him. His coughing has subsided immensly. He is now coughing every 5 minutes as opposed to non stop.
My question is this - should I only give the one dose of Bella 200 and start on Bella 30 or should I continue with Bella 200 for a while, or should I stop and wait until improvement subsides??
I should obviously continue with the Merc Iod RU for the throat.
Please advise.

I advised my wife to administer a dose of Bella 200 to him. His coughing has subsided immensly. He is now coughing every 5 minutes as opposed to non stop.

If you have observed some improvement with Bell 200 you can keep him on the wet dose 3 times daily and if there is no increase in his coughing he will be OK.
You cannot use the lower potency after the higher as it will not have any effect. However as long as you use the wet dose method, the improvement should continue.
Steam inhalation also helps.

Please take a dose of Bell 200 and two doses of merc-iod-ruber 30 every day. Also check whether hs Uvula is elongated. If it is, give him a dose of Phytolocca 30 instead of Bell 200 for one day and continue giving as above . Keep on giving Kali mur 10 minutes after each dose

In case his cough is loose i.e. with sound of loose phelgm, gime two doses of Pulsatilla 30 alternating with merc-iod-ruber 30 and if it is barking dry cough, replace pulsatilla with spongia 30

Please do not give him more than one dose of Lachesis 30 at one time of sickness. It is a very strong medicine and does not need repetition

Robina and Joe, thanks so much for both of your help. To give an update this is what transpired yesterday. I took him to see loal homeopath and she believed his cough to be from Hayfever. She sold me Pollosan nasal spray and tablets (made by A.Vogelin). Also told me to make a dose of Ferrum 30, Bell 30, Aconite 30 to get rid of inflamation. Alternate this concoction with Ambrosia/Histaminum 30.
I went home and started doing this right away. Well it didnt even slow the coughin down so at 11:00pm he was coughing (barking violently) every five or so seconds so my wife convinced me to give him antihistamine to give him some relief. The antihstamine didnt touch cough or congestion at all. 4:00am and up to the emergency department we went. No problems with his ear, throat or lungs. which is good. Dr. said it was probably the croup. they gave him a steroid and sent him home. He was wired until 8:00 this morning. Still coughing every 5 mnutes after the steroid but much improved. As today has progressed his cough has steadily gotten better. Went to see homeopath today and she gave me a 1M Phosporous to give to him. He had a bright red nose bleed this morning and he has responded well to Phosporous in the past. I will administer this later today and pray the cough does not return.
Im troubled that I was unable to stop this cough and hopefully this Phos will be offer a long term solution to his constitution.

Have you ever tried giving your son pure lemon?
I used to suffer desperately with a cough for a large part of my life and during periods of stress and not eating made it even worse.
There was a time when I had all sorts of friends, accuppressurist, Reiki Practitioners, Qigong, chinese herbalist, massage therapists, etc and they all desperately tried to help me get rid of my awful non-stop cough.
Finally, I got tired of it and started taking pure lemon in the mornings on an empty stomach.
The first morning one lemon, the second morning two lemons until I would reach almost a glass full of lemon.
That was the ONLY thing that worked.
Dairy products used to aggrevate it also. I gave up eating dairy products after I figured out that was a big contributor of the cough. I cound't sit in front of a cheese cake without coughing immediately.
Then my mother made a tea made with all sorts of fresh fruits, raisons and walnuts. I drank two cups of that and have not had a cough since. That was more than four years ago. But I did make myself some more tea about a year later just to make sure to keep the cough away.
You might need to start with lemon diluted in water if your son cannot handle the straight lemon like me.
I hate lemon but I have to force myself to take it.

Later I read somewhere that lemon cleans out the kidneys and that is why lemon works.
The kidneys expell all the gooy stuff up into the lungs to attempt to expell it and that is what causes the cough.

Each time I run into someone with a cough, I ask them if they drink milk and sure enough they do.
The last time I heard a cough it was coming from one of the kids who takes my dog for a walk. I told her to take some lemons from their lemon tree and I asked her if she drank milk. Her sister told me she had just finished eating cereal with milk.
