GERD: Please help me to get off Protonix
Thank you for allowing me to post my question here.I am a believer in homeopathy, but am not entirely well-educated in it and so I am here seeking assistance with a current problem that is plaguing me.
I have suffered from GERD since menopause struck very early (38...I am 46 now and post-menopausal).
I have been on Protonix for 2 years. I want desperately to be able to stop taking this drug. First, I question its long-term effects on my body in general. It is not natural to take such medications as I see it. Second, it is terribly expensive ($5 PER PILL), and I do not have health insurance.
I have been trying Mag Phos (6X) for a while, but it does not negate my need for PRotonix. I am currently using some over-the-counter Zantac twice per day. It doesn't work as well and causes me abdominal pains, but it is much less expensive than Protonix by prescription!
Please...I would be so immensely grateful to someone who could assist me in knowing what homeopathic remedy is the proper one for me.
My only other health issue is that I do make kidney stones like my mother before me. I have passed 4, and have 2 more in each kidney currently.

I have one further question, if I may.
I have already started on the prescribed treatment. First of all, only part way through the day I already feel as though I need a Zantac. Burning up in the throat, coughing...discomfort for sure.
I know you suggest 2 pellets of NP after each meal, but it is alright to take them also after a snack? Due to my condition I try to eat several small meals/snacks per day rather than three big meals. May I take 2 or 3 pellets of NP after each?

Yes you may take 2 tablets after a snack. I am glad to note that you are taking small quantities of food instead of a large meal as at the start of this therapy you will assist your stomach to stabilize by following this rule. Do not exceed over 10 tablets per day.
The burning pain you experience should reduce with the Nat Phos 6x within about 15 minutes of taking the tablets after a meal. Avoid drinking water immediately after a meal as this tends to dilute the contents of the stomach. Drink all the water you want 2 hours after a meal and do not drink any canned beverages like coke and also no coffee and fatty foods especially preserved meats like sausages bacon and ham as they contain saltpeter which antidotes homeopathic remedies.

I do not eat meat.
I do not drink water with, or just after, a meal. I will be cautious not to drink for 2 hours.
I do sometimes go to bed two hours after eating. I will attempt to eat earlier to be able to wait three hours before going to bed.

I will give it the three days and see where it takes me. I'm not 100% sure I'll be able to manage at night without a zantac, but I will try very hard.

I am seeming very impatient, but must say that after my lunch today I took the NP pellets (Hyland's smaller pellets)...increased to 4, and I really don't feel any relief at all. These are 6X small pellets.
I wonder if I should take more than even the 4 stated on the bottle.
I don't believe I have the correct products you are recommending (my nat phos 6X seem to be too small and my arnica 30c are pellets which I believe you say not to use for the wet dose.)
I am wondering if my health food store sells what you recommend. Are the products on the ABC website necessarily the ones you are recommending? I don't want to just buy more of what I already have.

Can you describe your Nat Phos 6x ? Give the diameter and the thickness of a tablet which you call a pellet ? Are they the same size as the Arnica pellets ?

Yes, Sir...the Nat Phos and the Arnica are the same size. I have a 'kit' from Hyland's containing approximately 35 or so singular remedies with a book. This kit contains probably the most often used remedies. Among them are Nat Phos and Arnica.
These are 1GR. tablets/pellets. They are approximately one millimeter in diameter and 1/2 a millimeter in thickness.
I have been taking four after each meal and I had to take another four before going to bed last night. I ALMOST took a Zantac to calm the pain but I stayed strong and took nothing at all other than Nat Phos yesterday. (I do not yet have the proper Arnica with which to create the wet dose.)
I also have a hard time healing because I have to lift my 21-month-old son all day long (difficult especially after eating), and he weighs 33 pounds!
I will continue with the Nat Phos again today. If you have further suggestions or guidance regarding the amount of these to take, I will certainly appreciate any thoughts you have to offer.

I am glad that I asked you to describe the Nat Phos 6x tablet that you have and I am sure that if it is only 1mm diameter and 0.5mm thick these are not the 6x potency. It is possible that what you have in your kit is the higher potency which may even be 6c and will be in the form and size you described.
You must use the Nat Phos 6x which is also known as a Biochemic Cell Salt and depending on where you live, you should be able to get it from a shop selling Homeopathic remedies.
In your own interest, you are advised to get about 300 tablets as you will need to take them for some time in the future instead of your Protonix.

My healthfood store has these exact same tablets. 1GR. tablets, shown as 6X.
I will purchase another bottle today, but I suspect they will be the same.

You did not indicate where you live as I may have been able to guide you more about the NP but I am now convinced that what you have is the wrong size. There is also the possibility of your making some mistake in your estimate of the relative size of the tablets.
I believe that the reason why you are not responding to the NP is because your tablets are less than the dose prescribed for GERD. It is up to you to take the required dosage if you wish to be cured.
I must mention here that this is the first time that I have come across a problem in the patient not being able to identify the remedy correctly.

The information that you have given me is for the correct Nat Phos remedy. It is just that your measurements of 1mm diameter and 0.5mm thickness does not click. This is the reason why I could not make up my mind about the dosage of such a tiny tablet but from what Hyland's have instructed in their bottle 4 tablets are the correct dosage. I can only presume that you have made some mistake in your record of the dimensions of each tablet. Suggest you get someone else to corroborate your measurements.
You have also confirmed that it has helped you already within a short time and I can only hope that you will be out of the woods shortly.

Also, I must admit that I thought I was getting some relief when I awoke this morning and wrote the note stating that I had seen some relief...but that was unfortunately only after having not eaten anything for the previous 12 hours.
For the remainder of this day since that point I have really been suffering the effects of GERD, and have been avoiding the temptation to take Zantac. But it is very difficult. I feel very unwell, with great burning in the chest and throat. The GERD symptoms are quite pronounced.
IMMEDIATELY after eating, I seem to feel somewhat relieved, but tremendous dyspepsia sets in thereafter, and it is pretty tough to take. I am trying very hard to stop myself from trying to use an antacid such as Zantac. So far, I have not.
I'm uncertain, however, whether you might think that I should try taking 4 pellets of Nat Phos every hour to quell this?

I was thinking about your case and remembered that you had indicated that you were prone to Kidney Stones.

I am beginning to wonder if there is some tie up with your Kidney stones and your GERD which you have reported has not improved with the standard therapy that I have used in hundreds of cases which have been helped and many cured with this Nat Phos therapy.
I have used Berberis Vulgaris 200c in the wet dose for clearing these Kidney stones and you can use this remedy twice daily for a few days and see how it can help you.

Barretts Esophagus will only result after at least a year of intense suffering from GERD and I would doubt that you have had this trauma as you may have posted for help before now.
The remedies I use for GERD which have worked in numerous cases which you can read by typing GERD into the Search forums cage on the left of this screen, are as follows:
Nat Phos 6x dose 4 tablets after 3 meals. This is presuming that you are a chronic case of GERD. Otherwise your standard dose is 2 tablets after 3 meals.
Arnica 30c in the wet dose to help cure the erosion of your Esophagus which you fear is Barrett's.
Please post your response after a few days on this therapy.
Stop all other drugs you have been prescribed up to now.
It would be useful if you can give us a history of your case with data on when you first noticed your gastric imbalance and what drugs you were prescribed for your ailment.
