I am a 45 year old female. I was diagnosed with TMJ dysfunction when I was around 28. My treatment started out with an orthodonist. He used equlibration and splint therapy before referring me to a surgeon at Emory. My first surgery was 16 years ago. My disc was dislocated causing me tremendous pain. After surgery, I went into braces for approx 18 months. About a year after that, surgery was done on the opposite joint. I would say that the surgery was a success....for about 6 years. I am now at a point where I suffer daily again. I do not know what it's like to never be in pain. Some days are worse than others. There is nothing else that they can do for me... I have a doctor that prescribes Lortab for me when my pain is intolerable but I realize that I cannot stay on a narcotic for the rest of my life! I would welcome any advice here for alternative medications.tmj sufferer on 2006-10-30
