Ear Gunk

My mother, 75 year old Caucasian living in southern part of USA, has chronic ear gunk which has caused hearing loss.

I don't know if I should call it otorrhea because it isn't a discharge. Nothing drains. And I wouldn't call it an infection because it doesn't cause pain or fever.

It does cause itching; it is worse on the right side. If she digs something out she said it's like white glue or wet, chewed paper. Sometimes it smells like old cheese and sometimes she says it just smells rotten.

She does like to bore a finger in it and attempt to scratch it but I don't know if it's better for it. I think it makes the tissue swell and makes the hearing loss worse.

We've tried a lot of remedies over the years, but nothing has caused anything to purge and I think that's what it needs.

I've taken her to professional homeopaths twice (had to travel for it) and more recently had a consultation with a homeopath through her website and no one has found the right remedy.

Would appreciate any help.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
