Dear all,

I went to that free Homeopathic clinic for my 5 year old son's fever due to tonsillitis. He was having fever for last three days. His tonsills are red and swollen . There is a pimple like abscess with yellow pus on the tonsills.

( His swollen tonsils had been there for last one and half years.)

( The person who runs this free homeo clinic is working as Homeopathic doctor in a central government establishment and doing free consultation in the evenings)

HE prescribed the 1-2-3 medicine. That is Acid Mur, Belladona and Rhus tox. The pill bottles was marked 1, 2 and 3. 10 pills to be given in every half an hour. He also told that the fever will subside in one or two hour.
i gave only one round of 1-2-3 and It worked exactly as he told and the fever is gone.

I used to give him Calpol ( 250 mg) every six hour till the fever subside. And this calpol used to weaken his digestive system.

Can somebody explain how this 1-2-3 works?
This 'this for that' remedy may not strictly adhere to the tenets of homeopathic theory. ( single dose, constitution and all.)
But i would like to know whether , this 1-2-3 is better than Calpol or whether this also is a type of suppressive treatment?

ur expert comments are solicited.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Does he give this 1-2-3 for fever with tonsils, or for any fever?

Dear Anil,

Have an eye for whether your child's general health, energy level, sleeping and eating pattern etc. improve or not.If they improve, then no harm in this 1-2-3.It is due to facts like these which one keeps coming across as one reads more and more, that i normally adopt a less rigid stance with different prescribing techniques. There is a famous 1-2-3-4-5 given by Boenninghausen for cough. The sequence is Aconite-Hepar-Spongia-Aconite-Hepar.I am not sure about the position of Hepar and Spongia in this series but the remedies were these only.

There is a lot of scattered empirical knowledge about specific diseases with different doctors in different parts of India.

Dear all

For coughs, I have used aconite-Hepar-spongia(first 2 in 6 potency and third in 30 potency) and also chelidonium-spongia-dulcamara(first in 200, the latter two in 30 potency)and have found very useful combinations.

Stubborn coughs which doesn't even respond to drosera had responded to the administration of T. chebula.

One will never know which combination will help at which time. Motilal Nehru father of pandit Jawaharlal Nehru once used calc. phos 6x(tissue salt)in averting major dysentry epidemic among the kumba mela devotees.

This is the precise reason why one should not be rigid/dogmatic lest we'll end up with only philsophy rather than actual result.

Changing medicines quickly in case of severe acute problems is an accepted norm.

If people are able to decide in favour of a series, for a partcular problem, based on their experiences, nothing wrong with it.

The severety of the acute problem prevents the medicine from working for a long time, and even an unindicated medicine in the series will not do much harm, and the indicated medicine will do all it can.

The whole confusion comes, when we apply this methodology to chronic problems.

Dear GM and RP,

This was the second time he has given 123.
One year back also he has given 123 for fever but that time my son had cold with thick coryza. ( tonsillitis also present) I dont know whether he gives 123 only for fever with tonsills or for any fever.
But it works for sure.

As far as energy level is concerned, he is always brimming with energy. Exceptwhen he is down with high fever, he is always on the move. So i am at a loss to see the difference in energy level.

After i read your post on the 'Theory of suppression', it was like a bolt from the blue. Even in my wild dreams , i have not thought that wrongly chosen homeopathic medicines can act suppressively.

I want to clear some doubts on that posts.( iam not a knowledgeble person as far as Homeopathy is concerned)
A classical homeopathic may not be able to prescribe the right remedy on the first hit.
Say for example, he gives medicine ' X ' for one week, if it does not show any aggravation or improvement, he tries the second remedy say 'y'.and again if he is not that lucky , he may go on to 'Z' and so on.

will not these medicines X, Y , Z .. suppress the disease? or at least make it jump laterally in the same tier?

I have raised these questions because i want to know whether the medicine i take is the right one or not.

i had been sufering from gum swelling right from my childhood. The teeth become loose and gums recede. eventually i had to part with four tooth one by one. I have undergone gum surgery which made me poorer by 7500/- in 1995. but the problem continued.
My father had some books on homeopathy and while going thru it,chanced to see the remedy called Merc. sol. One or two dose 30c cured my gum swelling and had not suffered from it for the last 7-8 years.( whenever it comes, i take one or two dose of Merc sol 30 yearly twice and kept the disease at bay).
My mother also had the same problem and had to remove all her teeth . I am of hydrogenoid constitution.
Pre- mature greying.age 39 .Had BP around 145/100. Took to joepathy and there was a decrease in BP.
Last one weeks i have pain in the left arm and slight discomfort in the heart region.
Now my doubt is that whether the merc sol was suppressing the disease or is it a constitutional remedy for me so that , i can increase the potency .
I am averse of getting hooked on allopathic medicine on a continuous basis. So iam searching for a constitutional remedy which gives a complete cure from all these problems.
My father has angina pectoris and i suspect my heart problems are heriditary.
with regards,
Anil

Dear Maheeru,

Thanks for sharing this.Is T.Chebula same as Terminalia Chebula (';Harad' in Hindi). Also which potency did you find most useful?

I would also like to share a tip.Any acute cough which has constipation as a concomitant promptly yields to Justicia Adhatoda 3X, 6X etc. taken in a little bit of warm water.

Hi Anil

Self medication can be done in homeopathy, and there are ways to avoid suppression.

The concept of

Similar remedy

single remedy

minimum dose

No repetetion as long as there is amelioration

if followed in true letter and spirit there is no danger of suppression.

I will give you an example.

You read a book, and finally decide that three medicines may help you, but, you are not sure with which one to start.

In that case, start with anyone, which seems closest, give just three doses, and wait for a considerable time.

Three weeks is the best. One week is minimum, for lingering chronic problems, that are painful.

Even, if there is a slight benefit you must wait longer, till the improvement ceases.

If the first medicine has no effect whatsoever , then try the second medicine in a similar way.You must have some understanding of remedy relationships, and should make sure that the second one is not inimical to the first one.

This precaution is required, as the first medicine might have started working, which you might not have noticed, and following it with an inimical remedy ,may create problems.

So,better to be sure, and not follow up with an inimical remedy, to the earlier one.

Now, there are many many possible situations in between. I have to write a book, to cover all those situations.

But, there is a very good book already available, which covers all these aspects in a very interesting way.

The science of homeopathy

by George Vithoulkus.

It is affordable, and available from almost all homeopathic book sellers in India and abroad too.

Please read it.

Scientific Name: Terminalia chebula

It is a main thing used in many Ayurvedic formulations.(Therapeutic uses: chronic ulcers, leucorrhoea, pyorrhoea, fungal infections of the skin, constipation)

Some tips to use this in 'granny' way:

Sore eyes: Dry and powder 15 gms each of fruit covers of this with terninalia belerica and embilica officinalis. Boil 1 tsp in 1 cup of water and reduce to half. Filter solution with clean and fine cloth. Swab eyes with cotton dipped in this filtered solution from nose side outwards 5 to 6 times a day till cured.

==========

Homeopathically it's been useful for me in 6(sometimes) and 30 potencies. sometimes it comesof help for coughs in HIV patients too.

Justicia sometimes have aggravated before relieving. Its a nice tip to take it in water. Thanks Rajiv.

A clarification:

T. Chebula was more useful in dry stubborn coughs(which had stayed for prolonged periods).

Justicia was more useful in coughs associated with heavy colds.
