Lachesis or Bryonia - Headache
Headache, has been mild for past 25 days. Last 4 days increased.- More on left side
- Pulsating (like the heartbeat)
- Better by sleeping
- Any movement aggravates severly (esp walking up stairs)
- Better by eating (esp sweet), hunger aggravates
- Worse by noise, light
- Extends to the ears and sometimes to nose
What potency should I take

Better by sleeping contra indicates Lachesis.
Try Bryonia 30, three times a day.Stop as soon as relief is obtained.

You seem to be knowledgeble about homeopathy,as you didn't ask for the remedy,but wanted a suggestion as to the choice between the two.
Now, two of us are telling differently, though for different reasons.
Now,you are back to square one.
One suggestion, read about the two remedies more thoroughly, and decide.

Thanks so much. I am better "during" eating, and sweets preferred are cake, doughnuts, am not too fond of chocolates. The headache starts in the morning itself when I wake up. Also cool air will aggravate, in fact even if I breathe a little cold air, the head will hurt. This is why I avoid morning walks -since mornings are cool and the cool breeze hurts the head. If I have to go out, I will wrap the head.

I appreciate your point of view, though I feel that I am at square 3, not one, because I have very good perspectives from you and John, its a 3rd point of view, which I may not have had on my own. Also, I am a real beginner, just scratching the surface. Do you also feel that its nux vomica....

John is a more experienced prescriber.
Nux.vomica is a good starting point,after allopathic dosing.
He said one dose 200 potency.

depending on response --it seem sepia ; lycopodium; sulphur--have indications---but due to anti-depressants most likely 'side-effect' syndrome envolved here..

Left sided ...throbbing headache...choice between:
1. Spigelia (if due to nervousness...only one dose of 200C). Also for those who have a weak heart.
Repeat with higher potency only after interval of 2/3 days.
2. Glonoine ( throbbing, sunrise to sunset, BP high...take frequent doses of 6C or 30C)
3.Selenium (If you have in addition ....early graying of hair, costipation, liver weakness and itching on palms and between fingers and toes).Headache increases with the sun exposure.
Take 200c at intervals of 2 hours until improvement sets in.
Select the one that matches best.
Don't take Lachesis (made from snake poision)indiscriminately .....be very sure the symptoms match ...only then take.

thanks for your response, one thing I did not indicate. As John indicated that it could be Sepia for the headache. (if you have read my case on depression, I have spoken about Thuja). My doctor gave me Silicea 200 after Thuja 10 M which caused armpit itching(he said that Thuja had exhausted its action). But, Silicea didnt work. Then he gave me Sepia 30 (3 doses for 15 days) and Sepia 200 (1 dose for 15 days). I noticed that this headache began after I started Sepia. I also got some tickling cough (for 2 seconds on about 3 different days) and there was some mucous in the throat very very mild. I also got some tiny itchy eruptions on my back, chest, arms, around the nose, scalp, ears.. But, no improvement in mental symtpoms.
Whether headache, itching, cough - mucous is because of Sepia I really do not know.

There is a way out,which I normally follow,when I find that multiple remedies are suggested.
I read the materia medica of the medicines concerned,simple materia medicas,like Nash,Boericke,and Kent.
Then decide what is closest to my "present"symptoms.Don't mix up the chronic symtoms you had since years.!!
Take it a dose,and observe for a few hours.Normally for acute problems,the medicine should give some relief with in a few hours.
Say, you try Nux,in the night.If you still feel the same symptoms,next morning,without any relief,then Nux is not your medicine.
Again go back to your books,and take the next best medicine you think.
Don't try more than 3 medicines on your own,or through internet advice.
If there is no relief,even after three well choosen medicines (as per your knoweldge), it is time to see a competent professional homeopath.

Agree with you, this is square 6 definitely, I am progressing. Suniye sabki, kariye manki (for the benefit of other readers...this is a proverb in Hindi which means listen to everyone, but do what you think is right)
Yes, I think I will do what you suggest.... I now have many perspectives, but there are some which seem very sensible. I have read up each of the remedies, and I think, I kind of know which one is close (I wouldnt have known if I hadnt gone through the squares..)

You took sepia on 9th Oct.That perhaps was the last of those 15 days.
Now,wait atleast for a week,to say the least,from now.Meanwhile read all the remedies suggested.
Come back here,only if you feel worse, or the same,after a week also.
You have to forget about Nux or any other medicine.
If headache is unbearable,and want some relief,take a tablet of paracetamol.(chrocin).
It won't interfere with the action of the remedy.
Pl.wait patiently.
Remember,whatever I suggest,including taking of chrocin, if required, is supported by theory,and is verified by me personally, to be safe.
I follow Vithoulkus,and he cured more than 20000 cases.
Whatever I say, I can provide reference,though a bit taxing on me,to do so.

Thanks for your response... I really am confused as of now (after Murthy's and John's mail)... Surprisingly, today the headache is hardly there. It seems to have gone. Last 3-4 days it was there..... Maybe I can wait for a day or two and then see if the headache persists (frankly, any number of these headaches are bearable), but I want to be rid of this depression - seems like it will end only when I go to heaven (maybe hell ;-)) I feel normal with antidepressants, but the moment I try to leave them, this depression comes back....

The depression, headache and skin itching are all inter-linked.
That is why we say...treat the whole patient.
