pdd-nos

Hi, I have a three year old son just recently diagnosed with PDD-NOS. I am not in denial but seriously question the validity of this label. A 40 min. play time is not enough to label an individual for life. Anyway I am going to take matters into my own hands.

Here are the problems:
-his vocabulary has greatly improved. He can say Mommy I want the red apple, and other sentences. His problem is he doesn't always respond. The daycare worker says that when he is in a good mood he will participate but when he is not he won't respond to your questions or demands.

-he walks on his toes.

-he was an excellent baby but the last year his temper tantrums are out of control. He pulls a fit when he doesn't get what he wants but sometimes it seems to be for no reason. He will scream really loudly and through himself on the floor and start taking out his shoes and throw them.

-He will give a piece of a cookie to me or his younger brother without any prompting but he will not share any of his toys. If his brother comes close to one of his toys he will start a tantrum. At daycare he never pulls tantrums.

-He only weighs thirty pounds and is skinny. This has only occured this last year (he was always healty looking). He has heavy bowel movements at least twice a day. And he eats regurlarly. I am concerned he might have worms because he picks his nose and then eats it.

-At daycare the teacher asks him to go to the bathroom and he goes no problem, at home he will not go. He will not have a bowel movement in the bathroom however always in his pull-ups. And thats another issue, he hates to be changed.

-He seems to have a lot of saliva and bad breath. He does not like to brush his teeth and the saliva usually happens because he bites his lower lip. He has never had an ear infection and I have checked it very often.

-That's all I can think of right now. He is an extremely affectionate kid. He is happy and extremely active. He never sits down. He sleeps well.

-I must also state that I have been depressed most of my life and am now seeking treatment via social worker and effexor.

-Please, any help will be welcome. and if you know of a naturopathic or homeopathic doctor in the area of Montreal, I would gladly like to have their number. I'm sorry for the long post.

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
can you please answer the following questions;

- was the father / mother an alchoholic at any point of time before he was conceived.

- any ulcers in the family.

- how was the pregnancy. was it uneventful.

- did you have any trauma or grief during the pregnancy.

- did the child undergo any trauma in the past.

- did the child take all necessary vaccinations, were the abnormalities noted after a particular immunisation.

- what are his likes and dislikes in food.

- does he like to take bath.

- how often does he cry.

Both parents drank heavily on occassion before the pregnancy.

No ulcers in the family although his father often has indigestion/acid reflux.

During the pregnancy I was under a lot of stress form moving. I had gestational diabetes that I controlled through diet. After about thirty weeks of pregnancy during an utrasound it was found that there was slightly low amniotic fluid so I was monitored every week. I delivered at slightly less than 37 weeks because my water broke. The delivery was long and my son had to be vacuumed several times. he had jaundice and required light therapy for about three days.

He took all the required vaccinations and no there wasn't any abnormality after a vacine.

He'll eat everything if it is what he wants that day. But he really likes all dairy, cheese, milk, yogurt, he also likes peanut butter and jelly sandwiches or bread for that matter and will eat about any fruit, especially grapes and bananas.

He loved taking baths as of late however I sometimes have to struggle.

He really doesn't cry that often, when he gets hurt or if you hurt his feelings, usually it's temper tantrums.

In addition he is extremely impatient.

I hope this answers your questions. Thank you for taking the time.
