This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Hmm.. please give more information about illnesses suffered, general things which make her feel better or worse ?

Major events in life which have left profound impact on her ?

What about food cravings and aversions ?

Any other things that stand out about her behaviour ?

The remedies I have prescribed to many hundreds of patients who present GERD is:

Nat Phos 6x dose 3-4 tablets taken after each of 2 meals.
NP will accelerate the passage of food and prevent the build up of gastric juice which refluxed up her Esophagus causing heartburn.
NP will also reduce her weight by about 1kg per week.

Arnica 30c in the Wet dose taken twice daily
Will help to rebuild the eroded tissue in her Esophagus
Will help her Cholesterol and her Eczema. She can apply the remedy water directly on her lesions as this accelerates the cure.

The Wet dose of any Homeopathic remedy is made as follows:

Order the remedy in a 5ml Ethanol pack also referred to as Liquid Dilution in a bottle preferably with a dropper arrangement.
Get a 500ml bottle of Spring Water from the nearest supermarket.
Pour out about 3cm of water from the bottle to leave some airspace.
Insert 3 drops of the remedy into the bottle and shake the bottle hard before you sip a capfull of the bottle or a large teaspoonful which is the dose.
Shaking the bottle hard is homeopathic succussion and this shaking must be done every time before sipping a capful of the bottle twice daily.

Report progress in a week.

I shall then prescribe another remedy to help to calm her down.

I can see you have been looking at the Fear of Poverty as being important. In order to choose a medicine based on this characteristic, it is necessary to differentiate the remedies by their particular attitude to poverty. Can you elaborate further on poverty and what it means to her?

Arsenicum fears poverty because money allows you to protect yourself from disease by obtaining the best doctors and nurses to care for you, by buying the best medicines and having the best diet. Arsenicums Fear of Poverty is linked to its Fear of Death, and especially their fear of being alone and dying with no-one to help or care for them.

Nux-vomica on the other hand fears the loss of their position of comfort, their job, their social status. Nux-vomica feels they are in a competition and if they do not work very hard they will lose those things dear to them - money, job, family, home, car etc. If they have lost money or a job, they will work very hard to make it up becoming true workaholics. Even when they have all they need they will keep working, for fear that someone else could take it off them. Fear of Poverty in Nux-vomica is actually related to their Fear of Loss

The real skill of a homoeopath is differentiating between the similar remedies. Often those subtle differences only become apparent when you have seen enough patients who were cured by them.

Glad to share my experiences :)

To Brisbane homeopath

My experience which dates back to 1968 in Homeopathy has proved that the classical approach to healing does not equate the results that I get with my own 'this for that' therapy aka 'Joepathy'. If you are interested in my therapy you can type this word into Google to read some of the more interesting cases that I have solved.

In the case of GERD and other human ailments and diseases, it is always best to use the remedy that has been tried and tested first before using other remedies which you can get by consulting Radar or equivalent Homeopathic software which usually suggests at least 6 remedies using the strict classical approach. I have invariably discovered that the classical remedy does not help the patient in the same manner that the therapy indicated by those who have cured this ailment, does

You may like to know that I am 82 years of age and am still as active as I was 50 years ago thanks to my complete avoidance of all allopathic drugs which I only take on a SOS basis. I take Arnica 30c in the Wet dose nightly as I have done for the last 15 years and feel that I owe my sense of wellness with BP 120/80 and Pulse 65 to it. My Lipid profile is equivalent to a teenager's.

I treat all my patients free of charge in Sri Lanka where I live and include the remedies of which I have over 500 in my stock in 87% Ethanol.

Pathologlical prescribing (prescribing specific remedies for named disease conditions) is a well established system within homoeopathy and has been practiced by doctors and laymen for 200 years. It can be quite useful in acute situations to rely on the experience of the generations of homoeopaths that have gone before us. It is also useful for removing pathologlical 'blocks' where the energy of the case has 'pooled' into the pathology and obscured the totality of the rest of the case. It is a very important treatment technique for Cancer as well, and has a good reputation there.

For myself I tend to use it only when a case appears 'stuck' around the pathology. My preference is always to percieve the totality first through the main complaint, and look for this same state mirrored in the Generals. In my experience when the simillimum covers the state, which stretches across all levels of a person. This usually clears the pathology and improves the person's life as a whole.

Of course the important thing to remember is that there is no one right way to practice homoeoepathy. Every practitioner finds their own style that suits them, and hopefully they have enough honesty and humility to assess it properly.

I am not sure what you mean by 'classical' homoeopathy, as I have seen a certain amount of allopathy practiced under this name. I prefer to practice Hahnemannian homoeopathy using the Organon to guide me through difficult cases and keep me on track when I feel tempted to slide towards bad practice and embellish it with much of the homoeopathy that comes out of the Mumbai Group's work (Rajan Sankaran and others).

Some 'classical' homoeopathy seems to entail ignoring the symptoms of the case for some hidden deeper state that only the practitioner can see (allopathy). True homoeopathy looks only to the patient and their unique individual experience of their disease to make a prescription.

To Nature Girl

You have not indicated what remedies your mother is using today which have made the difference in her heartburn which I diagnosed as GERD.

Brisbane Homeopath prescribed some remedies and you gave her Nux V but I prescribed other remedies which I had used previously and I would like to know which of these remedies is she taking today?

I didn't make any prescriptions here :)

I simply gave her information on the remedies regarding a specific characteristic (fear of poverty). I didn't make a prescription or even suggest that a particular remedy should be given. In fact Nux-vomica had been given before I posted that information, as was said by the poster.

Having lectured in homoeopathic materia medica for many years I enjoy differentiating between remedies for people. I find people often are confused about the differences between medicines.

You haven't given enough information to identify the correct remedy, but the following symptoms make me think of Sepia.

Sepia symptoms.
Fear of poverty rules her life.
won't stop working to take care of herself because she is afraid of being poor.
very critical of others (especially of her family)
yells at people
very critical of others, and it makes other people feel bad, but she doesn't understand why.
back problems

yes I think that Sepia might have to be differentiated with Nux-vom here - you can see the similarities in the symptoms.

That is very encouraging to hear, that you are going back to study! One of the most rewarding things is to inspire others :)

Keep us informed with the Nux-v if you need advice on how to progress with it.

Sepia can actually be very loving, when not going through their Sepia symptoms. The Sepia symptoms usually originate from being there too much for their families, and the excessive stress of having and raising children.

For what it's worth, I don't see any symptoms here that would rule out Sepia.

My hunch for Sepia in this case is because your description sounds similar to the descriptions of other family members of Sepia patients.

Did any of these symptoms begin after she had children? If so, that is a very strong indication of Sepia.

My hunch in your mom's case is to try Sepia. Many symptoms you've described indicate Sep., and nothing rules it out. Sep is also a very anti-psoric and anti-miasmatic remedy, and Nux isn't. Your mom's symptoms are psoric, so you should be looking for a major anti-psoric remedy.

Important Sepia features can be nagging, and a fear of poverty that causes one to over-work, such as you described.

See if any other symptoms that fit your mother.

In your case, I think you are looking at too general rubrics. Usually, the weirder the symptom is, the more useful it is in helping to differentiate between medicines.

You don't seem Nat-M-ish at all. Rather the start but don't finish syndrome of Lyc or Sil. You haven't given much info, but the description of Sil. might be worth reading for you. Lycopodium has an aversion to relationships, sex, marriage, children, etc., somewhat different that what you described. Silicea is more likely to listen to advice, and then to just do what they think is best.

Some of Kent on Sil.
'If he has any unusual mental task to perform, he fears he will make a failure of it, yet he does it well. This is the early state; of course there comes a time when he cannot perform the work with accuracy and still he may need Silica.
Another case is illustrated in a young man who has studied for years and is now nearing the end of his course. He dreads the final examinations but he goes through them all right, then a fatigue comes upon him and for years he is unable to enter his profession. He has this dread of undertaking anything.'

> my uterus is full of fibroids. I've already had surgery on them once, but they came back,

Sil. is known for curing fibroids, especially ones that came back.

Kent: 'Silica... has cured recurrent fibroids and old indurated tumors.'

Kent on Silica 'Serous cysts in the vagina, fistulous openings and abscesses about the vulva, which heal with hard nodules or do not heal at all; little oozing fistulae, offensive, cheesy discharge. They heal in little nodules and then break out again in the same nidus. Women who are subject to these abscesses.

Read the description of Sil., and see if there are other symptoms that fit. If Silica is appropriate to you, you might start on LM1 due to the seriousness of the condition.

Avoid surgery if at all possible. Any surgery damages the whole of the vital force, as described by Hahnemann. Homeopathy might be able to cure you completely. - JH

Again, for you I think Silica is worth trying if only because Silica cures recurrent fibroids. If the mentals are general, the physical symptoms are best to work with because they are objective.

Silicea is also resistant to advice!

I don't have time to manage this case, but Silicea seems to be the indicated remedy for you based on what you have said so far. - JH
