Some important questions

Is there a time limit on taking remedies?

If you stop taking them will your symtoms return?

Are there any side effects when taking remedies?

Are there non-lactose based remedies?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
I am not sure I understand the idea of a 'time limit'. In what way?

If the remedy is curing you, your symptoms should not return, or if they do return, they should be less serious, less painful, less intense, less frequent than before the remedy.

If a remedy is not curing you but palliating you, what you will notice is that when you stop taking it, the symptoms will return almost exactly as before, sometimes even slightly worse.

If a remedy is suppressing the symptoms, the original complaint may in fact vanish, but a new one will take its place, and this symptom or disease may be more serious or cause more suffering ie. a skin disease disappears but is replaced by symptoms in the stomach, or insomnia.

Homoeopathic (potentized) remedies do not have toxic side effects. However, anything that can heal can also harm *if used without care*. This will usually only happen if :

1. the remedy is not curative (only partly correct for the problem or not correct at all)

2. the remedy is repeated too often

3. the remedy is given in too high a potency for the patient

4. the remedy is given in too large a dose (for instance as pillules rather than as liquid)

Typically, when used with caution, homoeopathy is probably one of the safest medicines to take.

I do not know of any pharmacies that use anything but milk sugar to store the remedies on. However, as I believe I stated in another post, with proper dilution you will not experience an aggravation of your intolerance.

So i guess what you are saying is that you take the remedy until the symtoms disapear?

Here is what is happening to me. I have an anal fistula, for 8 years now. The remedies that i am taking, Silice, 6X Ferr Phos,6X and Nat Phos 6X, 2 tabs 3 times a day, Arnica, wet dose, same dosage.

Deffenately working on the fistula...hardly any puss or any kind of drainage, and much ,much less discomfort...But my gut is starting to bother me more than usual. Strange pains on the lower right side, back and legs aching, bowels a little looser at times, sometimes...feel sick ...I have a suspision that its from the remedies, but dont' know why...have any ideas?

Also it was recommened that i insert a broad spectrum antibiotic into the retum and massage it into the internal opening. Have not done that yet..

You are currently on what looks like Joe's treatment plan. You should be made aware that he and I do not see eye-to-eye over this and any interference on my part will not be taken well and will be seen as very biased.

Having said that, my opinion about the reactions you are having is that the direction of cure is completely wrong. Direction of Cure is a well established principle in homoeopathy that helps guide us in judging the appropriateness of prescriptions.

Direction of cure states that symptoms should improve or disappear from more important organs first, less important organs last. This is also stated as symptoms moving 'from within, out'. Homoeopaths have established a hierarchy within the body to aid us in tracing the proper direction of cure as the disease moves from more serious locations to less serious ones (and eventually vanish altogether).

It is well known that symptoms disappearing on the skin or surface of the body, while symptoms further in, especially those within organs worsening, is a poor sign. In such cases, when I have seen it happen in my own clients, I have immediately changed remedies as this can cause serious problems. This is known as suppression, and suppression can seriously harm your health. Orthodox medicine routinely suppresses disease and causes many long term problems.

The very first positive reaction to any well selected remedy, is that the patient should feel better in themselves. This may be a general physical feelings or it may be mental. After that symptoms should improve in general spheres like sleep, energy, appetite etc. After that more localized symptoms will improve, with skin usually being last (much to the annoyance of patients at times lol).

There is one sure way to see if the medicines are having side effects (rather than straight out suppressing your condition)and that is to stop them for awhile. It should become clear then what is doing what.

I am very much against using antiobiotics with homoeopathy except in emergency situations - this to me is a failure of the prescription on a fundemental level. Homoeopathy is suitable as substitute for orthodox medicines when there is no immediate danger to the patient's life. If you start using a well known orthodox treatment for your problem, how will you know the homoeopathy is doing anything at all? As long as the patient is in a safe enough state to do it, I prefer to work with confidence around my prescriptions.
