The ABC Homeopathy Forum

whether am I given Placebo or Right Remedy?

Dear Homeopaths,
I have had a lot of faith on Homeopathy & Homeopaths...and recently I have opted to treatment through online consultation...although the Homeopath, was so generous and kind to take my case sincerely and deeply...as they had asked so many questions after deep study in to my answers he again asked deep questions. So, I believed that if dr is taking so much interest by sincerely studying my case & questions then I WILL BE SURELY OK...Since I received the medicines Powder to taken weekly, and pills to be taken 3/day...but I think pills are just PLACEBO...as I have no effect what so ever...but being a SINCERE PATIENT I have followed all instructions...but I am feeling so depressed that I tried to contact dr. but NOW they are no where near to sincere to answer my agony that I am undergoing...no word of reassurance...shall I consult NEW Homeopath...and visit him personally instead opting for online treatment...PLEASE HELP...else I may loose my hope from and faith upon Homeopathy...

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Do homeopaths also give PLACEBO to mislead...if they do...this is not fair...as if one remedy is enough give 1...but don't mislead...if they don't then I have seen pills as DRY as no medicine(liquid) ever dropped in them...as at bottom it was just powder...that gave me jolt...as if i am being treated like a CHILD...unfair if done knowingly.
I reckon, Homeopaths ought not do this to at least patients who are VERY HOPEFUL towards homeopathy, and are able to testify the PLACEBO from some where...as I am searching some way to refute or confirm my intuition... whatever the result...but I request not to do SAME TO someone who is SINCERE?

How can I test whether my pills are placebo or medicated?

It's very difficult to find between a placebo and a remedy for a commoner.

Some homeopaths use placebo in necessary situations to understand the sensitivity, reaction, objective symptoms in patients and at times as a mask to prevent the patient from reckless self prescribing, but many use it as a ploy which is unfair.

In this case if you have trust on this homeopath give him/her some more time to see if the situation changes for better, else see a new homeopath who is transparent about the process.

In general, it's not advisable to take medicines without knowing names/ingredients. It's also against professional code of conduct for the doctors(places where homeopathy is a medical discipline) to dispense medicines without disclosing names.....they can be reported to the relevant authorities for such violation.

Thanks sir...how much time should I wait for, before I opt for new homeopath...CAN I ask my homeopath to disclose the name of remedy he has prescribed, or should I show pills to another homeopath to ascertain whether are those placebo or remedial pills...please answer.

If Homeopaths also do, by prescribing PLACEBO...then how different are they from Conventional Medical Practioners in misleading their patients' faith...there has to be distinction in their morality than that of Allopathic Doctors.

It is said...Allopaths are commercial and Homeopaths are spiritual...!

Even for another homeopath it's not going to be easy to differentiate between placebo and a remedy and even if he/she did it's going to be a sort of guess work without having access to a powerful microscope. Asking your homeopath is an option, but i'm afraid that many do not reveal the names even on request, but try asking your homeopath anyway.

If you want transparency in the proceedings, then you have to approach homeopaths who are of such type.

Do not give up on homeopathy just after hearing about placebo, one needs to read the history and cases of master homeopaths to understand the significance of placebo in the early years.

Sir, after having received your response and so kind words, am no way going to give up my faith upon Homeopathy, for such act by merely one homeopath...I shall continue taking his remedy despite having felt intuitively that pills are placebo...BUT HOMEOPATH OUGHT to be more empathetic and patient oriented, indeed must address our queries, as we believe their remedy for such a long period before it creates perceivable cure/effect...WE GIVE THEM OUR FAITH...they can't afford their TIME for us...that's what I am hurt more by....this online option has made them COMMERCIALLY DRIVEN...May God bless Homeopathy and save, from such Homeopaths.

To be honest, you may or may not have been given a placebo :) Just because pills are not creating any effect, we can't conclude the same. Even a remedy that is not indicated for a person can be as inert as a placebo can be. And in some cases, effect is only seen gradually. So first try to talk to your homeopath to understand what can you expect from the medicine or if you are lucky try to find out what have you been given.

Ultimately it's upto the patient to choose how he/she wants to be treated. They can choose between people depending upon their requirements, compatibility, trust and intuition.

The wrong remedy will seem like placebo to you - because it will have no effect. That is a very normal situation, and in fact one of the strengths of homoeopathy (that you can take many of our medicines with no adverse effects).

Placebo itself is a wonderful healing tool, and often very necessary for long term management of a case. Patients are frequently impatient and demanding, and will not wait through an aggravation or other healing crisis for the improvement to appear.

While I prefer to educate my patients about the process, some of them seem uninterested in this and simply want results, and they want them yesterday. To stop them ruining the treatment and going elsewhere I have on occasion given placebo, and it has been beneficial to them.

Our medicines literally have nothing in them - some kind of vibration or signature that we cannot measure except by its effect upon a patient. One could argue we are giving the same sugar pills out every time - although we know that somehow each one carries something with it we cannot detect.

If someone were to remove the labels from my bottles, my ability to prescribe successfully would be destroyed, until I replaced those medicines from a reputable pharmacy. I would have no way to know which remedy was which.
