nat mur AND cough syrup?

My 3 year old has had a cough for 2 days. After going through the online software, the remedy suggested was Nat Mur 6X.

I have some on hand, so I gave him 3 pellets under his tongue at 2 pm and 5 pm. Bedtime approaches rapidly and now I am not sure whether or not to repeat the dose tonight or wait until tomorrow.

Also, is there any advice an experienced homeopath can give me regarding whether or not it is advisable to give him dextromathorphan cough suppressant (without menthol? I'm concerned about him being up all night again with this cough.)

Thank you in advance,
Rebecca

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
cough suppressants never help coughs and often overexcite things to make it worse later! the main ingredient in a really soothing cough syrup is the syrup itself.
you can buy homeopathic cough syrups - bryonia is the main remedy in these.
consider using bryonia, alongside nat mur or just on its own, for relief from cough.
The other suggestion is to make a soothing herbal tea from thyme (not too strong and make sure you strain the bits out!) - a few sips of this, lukewarm, always calms the cough.
also gently rubbing the chest and the back - just above the thymus area on the front (and exactly oppposite position on the back) can help loosen the cough.
