Hello there,

I am writing for my son who does not have Internet. He is having a 'panic/anxiety' attack, that is acute, such as he has not had in several years. He has had these in his youth as Manic phase followed by a Depression phase. He has been Diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at age 21.

His symptoms are:
Insomnia, high anxiety at work, to such degree that he can not think what to do next, obsessions about not being able to breathe at hour of sleep, obsessions about bad things happening to him and his loved ones, various fears that are unfounded. Loss of appetite during the Manic phase.

This acute recurrence of Mania/Anxiety started when he decided to quit smoking and the did so, about 2 weeks into the withdrawal time from the cigarettes.

The anxiety occurs all day, but is worse when he tried to go to sleep at night. The obsessions really get bad then. He seems to get a little help by putting on a mild comedy movie and letting his mind concentrate on that at night.

His sleep is good and restful and normal when he is not having manic episodes. He can sleep late into the mornings when not having to go to work and not in manic.

Was taken off of 3 antidepressants (by his Psychiatrist) as a teenager, when diagnosed with panic/anxiety as they were making his depression, following the mania, worse.

He seems to be working with his Asperger's Syndrome well, no in denial and learning how to reason through things and work with what he understands about Autism. Very intelligent young man.
