swollen gland in neck

About 2 years ago, I had this swollen gland in my neck (upper, middle...but, towards the right slightly), and you could actually see it. I went to the doctor and he took several cat-scans and found out that I had sinusitis. I had sinus surgery a year ago and also found out I was allergic to all kinds of foods and to stay away from them. It has been a year now since all of that and I have had no problems at all. I take allegra D and singulair everyday, due to allergies. However, about a week ago, the gland popped up again (it also comes with a horrible sore throat), so I went to the doctor and she prescribed me penicilin, which I completed yesterday and the gland went away. Now, the gland is back, along with the sore throat. I will admit that sometimes I do eat what I am allergic to, so maybe that is the problem. I have no idea what this might be, does anyone have any suggestions?

This is just a forum. Assume posts are not from medical professionals.
Did the Doctors rule out any kind of head and neck cancer? I have similiar problem but gland is not visible on exterior of neck- just feels sore (left side of neck) and sore throat which is nuisance but not THAT unbearable. Im currently being treated for sudden hearing loss in my left ear and took steroid treatment and now one week later these gland problems surface. I am going to ask my doctor for MRI- to rule out any head and neck cancers.
