4 year old with cough/broncchitis

Hi there,
My son is 4 years old and has been on antibiotics 6 times in the past 12 months for broncchitis (4 times) and tonsilitis (twice). I took him to a naturopath 2 weeks ago, who suggested cutting wheat, dairy, corn and candy from his diet (we're all type O neg blood). Her reasoning: his immune system is down due to repeated antibiotics, and that the dairy, wheat etc was causing excessive mucous buildup in his lungs and sinuses. Since Naturopaths use a somewhat less than scientific method of diagnois (he sat on my lap and she used me as a conduit), I'm leary. It has been two weeks and he continues to cough (wet intermitant cough, worse in the mornings) and now his nasal passage is all blocked. We have taken all dairy, wheat, corn, pork etc out of his diet. In addition, he was on R8 for the first week. I don't see any sign of improvement and am worried that he is a prime candidate for the next virus floating around his classroom.
Any suggestions/advise/comments would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
H's mom.

Hi,

Need more symptoms-

1. Expectoration: what colour? consistancy? Is it easy to bring out, or is is tough/stringy making it difficult to cough out?

2. Cold: any discharge from nose? If yes, describe. Sneezing?

3. What makes him feel better/ worse? ( open air/ closed room, warmth, bath...)

Also, what is the Onset or cause of these complaints ? ( exposure to cold winds/ rain/ cold drinks...)

4. How is his thirst? more/ less than usual?

5. How does his tongue look? any coating? is there any digestive disturbance?

6. Any other complaints ? like fever/ ear ache...

Additional symptoms:

Expectoration: He insists that there is nothing coming into his mouth when he coughts, but it sounds like he is choking at times, I know that when my cough sounds like that (I too suffer from chronic bronchitis), I am coughing up lots of phlegm.

He is not clearing his nose; instead, he sucks it in. He’s never learned how to blow his nose (he just turned 4). When I do see liquid around his nose, it seems clear.

The only thing that seems to bring the coughing fits on is excitement – good or bad. If he is upset or having a temper tantrum (often these days), he starts coughing aggressively.

His tongue seems to look fine.

He is eating well and has lots of exercise. No other complaints.. While he is a happy-go-lucky kid at heart, he is easily frustrated these days, defiant, strong-willed and stubborn.
