chronic vertigo/ dizziness

Hi
I am 25 yrs old.
I suffered ischemic stroke in march 2011 due to anemia , low iron and increased CSF pressure in brain.
I have been on medication since 2011 but in april 2013 i got tinnitus - loud ringing , severe vertigo and mild left ear pressure/fullness .my neurologist referred me to an ENT specialist . After a few months ringing stopped but vertigo and ear pressure ,in a milder form continued. The antibiotics that ENT doc gave me had harsh side effects. so i discontinued his treatment and felt that i have to live with this condition all through my life . (post stroke b***sh**. )
I also started studying again (for competitive exams ) in 2012 and after tinnitus episode(2013) i got mild vertigo whenever i used to study but all the while it was manageable. But for the past 20 days or so vertigo has become severe and i'm also experiencing ear fullness ,pressure in my left ear and nausea .
mild ear pressure and vertigo have been persistent since onset of tinnitus from april 2013 but recently they have become very severe . Also nauseatic feeling is happening for the first time it wasn't at the time of tinnitus .
My neurologist told me that I have balance and vertigo related problems ,have to feed on medicines and it can only be controlled and not cured . He kept me on vertin 16 mg , vit b tablets .But these medicines had little or no effect . I dread seeing ENT doc again.
I want to get rid of this sorry state . I request all learned members of this forum to help me . The main problem is vertigo .It won't let me study, concentrate or focus but I want to continue with my academics.
please help
thanks a lot.

Please answer the following questions in a descriptive manner after careful analysis and recollection of previous experience and happenings.

1. Describe your main suffering? State the correct location.
I'm suffering from severe bouts of vertigo , ear fullness / pressure , nausea , headache at the top of head and backside base of my neck.

2. What other physical sufferings do you have in your body?
Having a rocking sensation like rocking back and forth because of dizziness and my upper right hand side of the body is a bit weak and in mild strain when exerted or pulled (it's been like this from 2011 when stroke paralysed upper right hand side of my body as well as right side of my face)

3. What mental sufferings / feelings do you have associated with your physical sufferings?
I can't sleep properly , profuse sweating while asleep , have clear dreams ,i'm afraid i'll be hallucinating soon because i have very clear dreams as if it were happening in reality . Because of vertigo i have become irritable , at home minor things upset me but outdoors i'm fine, easily upset on being cheated. Anxious about my future and career. Strong urge to do something about my condition but feeling helpless.

4. What exactly do you feel when you are at your worst? Describe the sensation in your own words.
I'm outraged and taken over by my emotions- anger, violence, bad behaviour . My voice and body trembles.

5. When did it all start? Can you connect it to any past event or disease?
tuberculosis -at around 11-12 yrs of age
typhoid , anemia - when 15 yrs old
ischemic stroke - 22-23 and again typhoid a year later , and tinnitus in 2013 ( april)
so .i have been struggling with my health all throughout my life. In early years when i was a child i had strong urge to eat chalk , sand etc . I guess anemia was due to this but after stroke i no longer have any craving for these.

6. Which time of the day you are worst?
I wake up with a heavy head so in morning time ,the symptoms are worst .. they become milder or can aggravate in afternoon .. same in evening time -some evenings symptoms are absent and on some they are very bad .
7. What are the things that aggravate your suffering and those that ameliorate the same? Example: time, temperature, pressure, rubbing, washing, eating, tight clothing etc.
when i skip my meal , or exerting mentally or physically , reading , studying ,heavy exercise etc these aggravate symptoms and when i sit down ,lie down , indulge in leisure ,intensity of symptoms is reduced.

8. Do you think your sufferings have relation to any external stimuli (like, change of place) or any internal biological changes in the body, like, menses (in females)?

9. When do you feel better, during hot weather or cold weather, humid or dry weather?
I'm well during winter but as summer approaches i begin to get sick . Humidity increases my suffering . only cold weather suits me.

10. Describe your general mental set up? Are you Moody, Arrogant, Mild, Agreeable Changeable, Nervous, Suspicious, Easily offended, Quiet, Arguing, Irritating, Lazy etc.
moody , irritable , nervous ,anxious , not easily offended ,introvert , not indulging in argument , lazy when i'm not well, large hearted, caring , jolly .
one peculiar thing - at home i get offended easily ,get upset at minor things but outdoors i'm ready to adjust all the way . Not easily angered when outdoors but opposite when in house.
- How do you feel before or during a thunderstorm?
not much . Not affected by it.
- Do you like being consoled during your tough times?
yes, I like to be consoled .It motivates me .
- Are you sensitive to external stimuli like smell, noise, light etc?
loud noise, bright light disturbs me . Fond of flowery fragrance
- Do you have any typical habit or gesture like nail biting, causeless
Weeping, talking to one self etc?
typical habits - nail biting , picking at skin on fingers , constantly chatter in mind, excessive nodding.
- How do you feel about your friends, family, your children and especially your husband / wife?
I'm fond of my family but at times i think of running away from them . But i am deeply concerned about their heath.
11. What are your fears and do you dream of any situation repeatedly?
I am afraid of embarrassment , fear of being in public or crowdy places , about people's opinion of me. For dreams , whatever i study during the day , i keep on repeating in my dreams , creating hypothetical problems related to studies and work on them during my sleep. sometimes i wake up in the middle of the night solving mathematical sums!! blabbering to myself.

12. What do you crave in food items and what are your aversions?
I crave for oily, deep fried food as well as sweets . I dislike too much chilly or salty things.

13. How is your thirst: Less, Normal or Excessive? less thirst .

14. How is your hunger: Less, Normal or Excessive? normal but on some days it tends to be excessive .

15. Is there any kind of food which your body can’t stand?
stale food only ,other than that it's fine.

16. Is your sweat normal or less or more? Where does it sweat more: Head, Trunk or Limbs? i sweat profusely and that too on my forehead , temples, upperlips ,scalp i experience heavy sweating . Even while i am sitting, not doing any work ,i break sweat in all these mentioned places. for limbs and trunks ,it's normal sweating

17. How is your bowel movement and stool type?
not smooth , sometimes i feel constipated.
18. How well do you sleep? Do you have a particular posture of sleeping?
prior to stroke (before 2011) i slept like a baby . Never had any dreams but since 2011 ,my sleep is abnormal. I sweat too much ,forehead, upperlips and around neck area. I get very real like dreams ,as if they are really happening to me.Continuous breaks in sleep.waking up with a heavy head

19. Do you think you are able to satisfy your sexual desires in general?
yes , it's good.
20. Do you have any strange, peculiar or unusual symptom or feelings? How are you different from others?
I'm introvert . Having difficulty to start conversation with others , STROKE HAS ALSO AFFECTED MY VOICE,SPEECH .NOW I FUMBLE A LOT ,AND it has made me go into my shell . I want to do great things with my life but limited and restricted because of my medical condition . I feel trapped sometimes . Also when i'm healthy , i don't sit idle .I keep on doing things that i like but when i feel sick I'm confined ,restricted .

21. What medications have been taken earlier by you to treat the diseases and do you have any particular symptom surfacing after the medication?
currently
i am on vertin 16 mg
ecospirin 75mg
NuHenz tablets
my doc has advised to stop vertin and start vertigon tablets. Also after antibiotic course for tinnitus i began experiencing ear fullness/pressure. Earlier it wasnt there ,only after antibiotic treatment for tinnitus ,have i begun to experience ear fullness .
22. What major diseases are running in your family?

23. Describe, how do you look like? Describe your overall appearance.
i'm 5 ft 9 weighing 80 kgs . chubby,paunchy, medium statured , have prescription glasses .

(For Females)
24. If your menstrual cycles are not normal, please describe the irregularities, like pains, moods, flow type, clots etc.

25. What major diseases have you had in your life and when. Please write them in a chronological manner.
pneumonia - at the age of 1-2 yrs . Was sensitive to cough and cold all through my childhood but not now.
tuberculosis -at around 11-12 yrs of age
typhoid , anemia - when 15 yrs old
ischemic stroke - 22-23 and again typhoid a year later , and tinnitus in 2013 ( april)
onset of vertigo form 2013.

Thanks for taking up my case . I'm fed up of dosing upon medicines that can only contain my illness and not cure it . I feel homeopathy can offer me some hope in my life.
thanks .

Please take LACHESIS 200C two doses on a single day only. Take the doses once in the morning and the other in the evening.

You should not take any other doses after that for 15 days.

Take the doses in empty stomach and clean mouth. No food or water one hour before or after.

One dose is 3 drops in 5 ml of water.

Report after 15 days.

3) any changes in diet ? any foodstuffs to avoid ??

4) And please mention guiding words, symptoms, conditions that helped you zero in on LACHESIS as my constituional remedy .

If you can gradually decrease the dosage, its going to be better for you. It all depends on your extent of dependence on the drug. If you feel you can stop the drug without having much problems, try it otherwise do it gradually continually, in small steps while you take lachesis once in 15 days.

One table-spoon of water is around 5 ml. You don't have to be exact on its measure.

Have simple diet. Avoid coffee, raw onion, garlic, mint and use of deos.

Lachesis may not be your constitutional remedy but it fits your present symptoms..

Your words like - feel confined, restricted, aggravation during sleep and waking up with a heavy head, typical mental make-up as you described your sudden emotions having anger, violence and bad behavior etc. along with the typical physical symptoms point to lachesis.

rishimba sir, I am very sorry for delay in replying.
Actually , My condition became severe so I went to see a local homeopath . He gave me cal. carb. 200c with no success . I also sought advise from another homeopath but still I got only a little respite and after initial success ,I relapsed again. I am still suffering from all those balance related issues and medicinal aggravations from past dosage. I am taking arnica 6c now
Please guide me further ,sir.
can I still begin with lachesis ?

bieny 9 years ago
I feel your remedy is Lachesis and that's the reason I suggested it.

If you have gone for other homeopaths and taken other remedies, why do you have to come back to ask me again.

rishimba 9 years ago
Sir , I thought it would be better to see a homeopath in person . I never meant to dishonor you ,sir . My vertigo was very bad then and on my parents' insistence I went.
But After initial success , I relapsed . I don't know what to do . I feel I am running out of options now and will have to live with this condition. It's like this mystery illness that wont go away.
rishimba sir ,please advise me

bieny 9 years ago
I have nothing more to advise. You may follow the above given suggestion if you want to give lachesis a chance.

If lachesis works, its good for you.

rishimba sir
I have got lachesis 200c in the form of pills . How many pills for a dose ? or I have to dissolve pills in water ??
thanks .

bieny 9 years ago
Take 3 pills under the tongue as one dose. Don't bite or crush the pills.Just let them dissolve by themselves.

rishimba 9 years ago
hi rishimba sir
I took lachesis two doses today but there is one issue. After taking lachesis I am experiencing pain in the back of head and pain at the base of neck region and a little bit in the back of shoulders. I am not sure it is because of cold weather or something else . The pain is deep in the upper back region.
please advise sir

bieny 9 years ago
I can't say for sure if the pain has anything to do with Lachesis. It could be due to strain in neck during sleeping in some odd position.

Anyways, if you can bare it, please do not take any homeopathic or allopathic medicine now for at least 10 days.

Lachesis will show its response within 10 days for sure, if it is the right remedy.

Tell me what changes have you felt in yourself after taking Lachesis with regard to your moods, quality of sleep, hunger, energy levels etc.

rishimba 9 years ago
Hi rishimba sir,
I took two doses of lachesis 200c on friday . For two days after it ,I experienced occipital ,vertex headache and upper back pain. I mentioned this in a post a couple of days ago. I am feeling a bit more calm and relaxed now. Energy levels are good but sleep quality hasn't changed much . I still have vivid dreams and profuse sweating and increased heart rate while I am asleep. Also the back pain has subsided on its own but occipital headache is still there .
It hasn't helped my vertigo . Vertigo is the same as was before taking it,perhaps, it became worse after lachesis. Ear pressure is also the same.
please advise further,sir.
thanks.

bieny 9 years ago
Please observe for another 10 days and then we will take your case again.

rishimba 9 years ago
Hi rishimba sir ,
First of all I would like to apologise for being too pessimistic in my last post . I know my condition has become chronic . Allopathy didn't work but I will have to keep on trying to find a cure for my vertigo and homeopathy is my best bet. 7 days have passed since I took lachesis and it hasn't worked at all for me. I dont take any medicines ,including vertin ,and my vertigo has become so bad that it has been difficult to get through the day for the last 3-4 days . Just feeling miserable all day.
please advise ,sir.
can we move on to the next medicine ?

bieny 9 years ago
Ok, let me have your present symptoms.

1. Describe your personality in detail.

2. What is the exact sensation when you have vertigo? Do you tend to fall infront, sideways or backside etc.

3. When is your symptom at the highest?

4. What makes it worse and what makes it better?

5. Do you have any periodicity in your symptoms?

rishimba 9 years ago
1. Describe your personality in detail.
5 ft. 11 inches , 81 kgs , 26 yrs old.
I have been a very competent student but generally, not very competitive in life. When I take up a cause, I am very zealous and enthusiastic . I'm still studying and want to excell further , an intense burning desire within, to study ahead but bogged down due to recent health issues. I, at times, feel very bad about this handicap that my recent condition has imposed on me. I cannot sit idle for long . When I am fit and even a little fit enough , I resume my studies. currently , my life is all about studies but due to these health issues I am forced to while away my time on useless things. I am concerned about my parents and my brother . Often I am concerned about their health . Many times I get frustrated on repeatedly being told the same thing . My condition has made me very moody person. I lose my cool often, when I am suffering from bouts of vertigo.
about past diseases -
I have suffered from cold -cough related disorders all my childhood . when I was an infant I suffered from pneumonia and diptheria. I have been anaemic since birth. After 16-17 yrs of age, the cold-cough related issues subsided . I have also suffered from many instances of malaria and tuberculosis. Recently in march 2012 I was down with malaria and tuberculosis. I suffered a MCA infarct ,followed by paralysis of right hand side ,face ,eyesight and vocal chord issues.

2. What is the exact sensation when you have vertigo? Do you tend to fall infront, sideways or backside etc.
When I have severe vertigo ,I feel like I am going to faint. I feel drowsy. My reflexes get restricted and experience brain fog . I feel like my head gets thrown to the back side, all of a sudden. Also I have ear pressure ,fullness and it comes and goes. It comes all of a sudden and goes immediately. But it's a sharp stinging pressure ,sometimes I feel deep itching when there is ear pressure. Also now-a-days, a sharp ,stinging, high pitched sound comes from the left ear and vertigo follows immediately. Also I am feeling pressure and heaviness in and around my left eye . I am experiencing sour, putrid eructations in the morning time while defecating.

3. When is your symptom at the highest? severe bout of vertigo immediately occurs after buzzing, high pitched sound in ear and after ear pressure. Reading for long time makes it worse. After unfinished sleep or incomplete sleep ,i feel severe vertigo. After mental exertion , after seeing something fast moving object like a train or a fast moving bus ,I get vertigo.

4. What makes it worse and what makes it better?
Whenever I study for a long time ,2-3 hrs, then I get severe vertigo. when the season changes ,it's worse. Lying down reduces it a bit but not so much . Exertion makes it worse and !! WHEN I AM TRAVELLING IN A TRAIN/BUS OR WALKING ,VERTIGO DISAPPEARS AFTER BOTHERING ME FOR SOME TIME INITIALLY. (sorry for the caps) Rush of blood , or pump of adrenaline relieves vertigo for some minutes.
5. Do you have any periodicity in your symptoms?
on bad days ,it is present throughout the day .It doesn;t go away at all. when i take vertin or some other medicine ,it reduces in intensity for a short while but comes back after a couple of hours.
much Before taking lachesis, I had a few doses of phosphorus 30c . And it worked for some time but vertigo returned after a few hours. But I got some respite.
I also want to mention about a few things.
I have pain and general weakness on movement in my paralysis affected right hand side. The right shoulder pains and when I move my head to the right side it pains at the shoulder -neck intersection area. I also have vertex headaches sometimes extending upto occipital area.

rishimba sir, sorry for not organizing the info ,chronologically. :( :(
excuse my typos
thanks a lot,sir.
sir, I want to add that sometimes I get tingling sensation in upper back area ,around shoulders.

Did you study late nights for the competitive exams?

Do you think these problems are a result of loss of night's sleep for a considerable period of time?

What happens when you board a bus or a car? Do you initially start having vertigo? How long does it take to get well? Does it completely get well during travel and you start feeling normal?

Answer these questions accurately as the remedy lies in your answers.

rishimba 9 years ago
Did you study late nights for the competitive exams?
No ,I didn't study late nights but I exerted myself beyond my limit when I was unwell ,actually before stroke , I had an upcoming exam and I set aside my health conerns and over-exerted myself and eventually , a week later , stroke hit me. I still have that habit of mental over-exertion despite being unwell.

Do you think these problems are a result of loss of night's sleep for a considerable period of time?
I think the quality of sleep is the problem for me and not the duration. I get 7+ hrs of sleep.
My sleep was fine before the stroke. Post-stroke I have started havind nightmares and flashbacks of bad and embarassing incidents. Nightmares are vivid and though I go to bed at my usual
time, the quality of sleep that I now-a-days have ,is bad because of those nightmares ,flashbacks. Mostly, I find myself in the dream, doing the same things that I have done, read, watched etc during the course of the day, vividly ! and at other times flashbacks upset my sleep.

What happens when you board a bus or a car? Do you initially start having vertigo? How long does it take to get well? Does it completely get well during travel and you start feeling normal?
There are two things in this respect. First,I get vertigo when I see moving objects infront of me and next,
when I am walking or in motion ,whether on a bus or in a train, then vertigo disappears. for a few initial moments,I feel drowsy , have vertigo and experience fainting but after a few minutes into the motion, maybe 10-15 minutes or so, I feel fine , upto 75-80 percent fine, when in motion.
thanks ,sir.

Anyways,

Try COCCULUS INDICUS 30C one dose a day in the morning in empty stomach for 3 days in succession.

Stop to see if you produced a response.

One dose would be 3 drops of remedy in some 10 ml of water taken in empty stomach first thing in the morning. Go back to sleep after taking the dose for another hour.

rishimba 9 years ago
thanks sir,
one more question.
Remedy should have to be in liquid form only or pellets would also do ?

bieny 9 years ago
I would prefer you to take liquid form. In case you can't source it, go for 3 pellets as one dose.

Don't crush or bite the pellets..just chew them as long as they don't get fully dissolved and absorbed.
